Melatonin protects endothelial progenitor L255cells against AGE-induced apoptosis via autophagy flux stimulation and promotes wound healing in diabetic mice

        Haiming Jin,Zengjie Zhang,Chengui Wang,Qian Tang,Jianle Wang,Xueqin Bai,Qingqing Wang,Majid Nisar,Naifeng Tian,Quan Wang,Cong Mao,Xiaolei Zhang,Xiangyang Wang 생화학분자생물학회 2018 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.50 No.-

Wound healing is delayed in diabetic patients. Increased apoptosis and endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) dysfunction are implicated in delayed diabetic wound healing. Melatonin, a major secretory product of the pineal gland, promotes diabetic wound healing; however, its mechanism of action remains unclear. Here, EPCs were isolated from the bone marrow of mice. Treatment of EPCs with melatonin alleviated advanced glycation end product (AGE)-induced apoptosis and cellular dysfunction. We further examined autophagy flux after melatonin treatment and found increased light chain 3 (LC3) and p62 protein levels in AGE-treated EPCs. However, lysosome-associated membrane protein 2 expression was decreased, indicating that autophagy flux was impaired in EPCs treated with AGEs. We then evaluated autophagy flux after melatonin treatment and found that melatonin increased the LC3 levels, but attenuated the accumulation of p62, suggesting a stimulatory effect of melatonin on autophagy flux. Blockage of autophagy flux by chloroquine partially abolished the protective effects of melatonin, indicating that autophagy flux is involved in the protective effects of melatonin. Furthermore, we found that the AMPK/mTOR signaling pathway is involved in autophagy flux stimulation by melatonin. An in vivo study also illustrated that melatonin treatment ameliorated impaired wound healing in a streptozotocin-induced diabetic wound healing model. Thus, our study shows that melatonin protects EPCs against apoptosis and dysfunction via autophagy flux stimulation and ameliorates impaired wound healing in vivo, providing insight into its mechanism of action in diabetic wound healing.

Distributed Adaptive Fault-tolerant Control for Heterogeneous Nonlinear Multi-agent Systems with Actuator Faults

        Quan-Yong Fan,Chao Deng,Xin Wang,Cai-Cheng Wang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.2

This paper investigates the fuzzy cooperative reliable output regulation (CROR) problem for heterogeneous nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) with actuator faults under directed network topology. Compared with the existing CROR results, this paper considers more general heterogeneous nonlinear MASs with actuator faults under directed network topology. To identity the dynamic matrix of the exosystem for each subsystem, distributed finite-time estimators are firstly designed. Then, a novel hierarchical mechanism is introduced for the MASs network such that each subsystem knows its layer in the network. By using the introduced hierarchical variables in the hierarchical mechanism, distributed finite-time observers are proposed to estimate the state of the exosystem. Based on the proposed finite-time observers, a new decentralized fuzzy resilient controller is proposed. It is proved that the developed method can be used to solve the considered problem. Finally, a simulation example is provided to show the effectiveness of the developed method.

      • A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Clinical Outcomes and Toxicity of Lobaplatin- Versus Cisplatin-Based Concurrent Chemotherapy Plus Radiotherapy and High-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy for FIGO Stage II and III Cervical Cancer

Wang, Ji-Quan,Wang, Tao,Shi, Fan,Yang, Yun-Yi,Su, Jin,Chai, Yan-Lan,Liu, Zi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.14

Background: We designed this randomized controlled trial (RCT) to assess whether lobaplatin-based concurrent chemotherapy might be superior to cisplatin-based concurrent chemotherapy for FIGO stage II and III cervical cancer in terms of efficacy and safety. Materials and Methods: This prospective, open-label RCT aims to enroll 180 patients with FIGO stage II and III cervical cancer, randomly allocated to one of the three treatment groups (cisplatin $15mg/m^2$, cisplatin $20mg/m^2$ and lobaplatin $35mg/m^2$), with 60 patients in each group. All patients will receive external beam irradiation (EBRT) and high-dose-rate intracavitary brachytherapy (HDR-ICBT). Patients in cisplatin $15mg/m^2$ and $20mg/m^2$ groups will be administered four cycles of $15mg/m^2$ or $20mg/m^2$ cisplatin intravenously once weekly from the second week to the fifth week during EBRT, while patients inthe lobaplatin $35mg/m^2$ group will be administered two cycles of $35mg/m^2$ lobaplatin intravenously in the second and fifth week respectively during pelvic EBRT. All participants will be followed up for at least 12 months. Complete remission rate and progression-free survival (PFS) will be the primary endpoints. Overall survival (OS), incidence of adverse events (AEs), and quality of life will be the secondary endpoints. Results: Between March 2013 and March 2014, a total of 61 patients with FIGO stage II and III cervical cancer were randomly assigned to cisplatin $15mg/m^2$ group (n=21), cisplatin $20mg/m^2$ group (n=21) and lobaplatin $35mg/m^2$ group (n=19). We conducted a preliminary analysis of the results. Similar rates of complete remission and grades 3-4 gastrointestinal reactions were observed for the three treatment groups (P=0.801 and 0.793, respectively). Grade 3-4 hematologic toxicity was more frequent in the lobaplatin group than the cisplatin group. Conclusions: This proposed study will be the first RCT to evaluate whether lobaplatin-based chemoraiotherapy will have beneficial effects, compared with cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy, on complete remission rate, PFS, OS, AEs and quality of life for FIGO stage II and III cervical cancer.

      • Buckling Enhancement of Column Strips with Piezoelectric Layer

Wang, Quan,Wang, Dajun Computational Structural Engineering Institute of 2003 Computational structural engineering Vol.3 No.1

This paper discusses the enhancement of the buckling capacity of column strips by use of piezoelectric layer. The analytical model for obtaining the buckling capacity of the piezoelectric coupled column with general boundary conditions modelled with different types of springs applied at the ends of the column is derived the first time. Based on this proposed model, the buckling capacity of the column strips can be accurately predicted by solving an eigenvalue problem. The computational results show the great potential of the piezoelectric materials in enhancing the buckling capacity of the column strips. The optimal locations of the piezoelectric layer for higher buckling capacity are also obtained for the columns with. standard pinned-pinned, fixed-free, and fixed-pinned structures. In addition, the buckling capacity and the increase of buckling capacity are discussed for those columns with the general boundaries as well. This research may provide a benchmark for the buckling analysis of the piezoelectric coupled strips.

      • Simulation of turbulent flow of turbine passage with uniform rotating velocity of guide vane

        Wang, Wen-Quan,Yan, Yan Techno-Press 2018 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.7 No.4

In this study, a computational method for wall shear stress combined with an implicit direct-forcing immersed boundary method is presented. Near the immersed boundaries, the sub-grid stress is determined by a wall model in which the wall shear stress is directly calculated from the Lagrangian force on the immersed boundary. A coupling mathematical model of the transition process for a model Francis turbine comprising turbulent flow and rotating rigid guide vanes is established. The spatiotemporal distributions of pressure, velocity, vorticity and turbulent quantity are gained with the transient process; the drag and lift coefficients as well as other forces (moments) are also obtained as functions of the attack angle. At the same time, analysis is conducted of the characteristics of pressure pulsation, velocity stripes and vortex structure at some key parts of flowing passage. The coupling relations among the turbulent flow, the dynamical force (moment) response of blade and the rotating of guide vane are also obtained.

      • Susceptibility Loci Associations with Prostate Cancer Risk in Northern Chinese Men

        Wang, Na-Na,Xu, Yong,Yang, Kuo,Wei, Dong,Zhang, Yao-Guang,Liu, Ming,Shi, Xiao-Hong,Liang, Si-Ying,Sun, Liang,Zhu, Xiao-Quan,Yang, Yi-Ge,Tang, Lei,Zhao, Cheng-Xiao,Wang, Xin,Chen, Xin,Hui, Juan,Zhang, Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.5

Background: KLK3 gene products, like human prostate-specific antigen (PSA), are important biomarkers in the clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). G protein-coupled receptor RFX6, C2orf43 and FOXP4 signaling plays important roles in the development of PCa. However, associations of these genes with PCa in northern Chinese men remain to be detailed. This study aimed to investigate their impact on occurrence and level of malignancy. Methods: All subjects were from Beijing and Tianjin, including 266 cases with prostate cancer and 288 normal individuals as controls. We evaluated associations between clinical covariates (age at diagnosis, prostate specific antigen, Gleason score, tumor stage and aggressive) and 6 candidate PCa risk loci, genotyped by PCR- high resolution melting curve and sequencing methods. Results: Case-control analysis of allelic frequency of PCa associated with PCa showed that one of the 6 candidate risk loci, rs339331 in the RFX6 gene, was associated with reduced risk of prostate cancer (odds ratio (OR) = 0.73, 95% confidence interval (CI) =0.57-0.94, P = 0.013) in northern Chinese men. In addition, subjects with CX (CC+TC) genotypes had a decreased risk for prostrate cancer compared to those carrying the TT homozygote (OR =0.64, 95% CI = 0.45- 0.90, P = 0.008). The TT genotype of 13q22 (rs9600079, T) was associated with tumor stage (P=0.044, OR=2.34, 95% CI=0.94-5.87). Other SNPs were not significantly associated with clinical covariates in prostate cancer (P > 0.05). Conclusions. rs339331 in the RFX6 gene may be associated with prostate cancer as a susceptibility locus in northern Chinese men.

메를로-퐁티의 현상학 관점에서 본 오하드 나하린의 가가 움직임 언어에 관한 연구

        ( Wang Zhi Quan ) 한국무용예술학회 2018 무용예술학연구 Vol.68 No.1

This research applies Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of perception in order to study the dance language Gaga developed by Ohad Naharin. Gaga is the main training method of Batsheva Dance Company. It helps the dancers develop and advance their movements’ precision and sensibility. In Gaga, dance experience is always innovative. For exploring the experience and essence of the body, phenomenology is undoubtedly the most appropriate research method. Through the perception, intentionality and body schema of Merleau-Ponty, this study explains the characteristics, significance and training objectives of Gaga. In addition, the contradiction points existed in Gaga have been also explained by the conception of phenomenology belonging to Merleau-Ponty. It proves the academic significance of the methodology of phenomenology in the study of dance as well as the practical significance for the practical process of dance.

      • Detection of Low Frequency Signals using Interferometric Fiber Sensors based on Phase Generated Carrier Demodulation Technique

Wang Yong-jiao,Wang Chuan,Yuan Yin-quan,Liang Lei 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.2

A fiber-optic sensor is a sensor with high sensitivity, and signal detection technology is one of its key technologies. Phase generated carrier demodulation technology is a homodyne demodulation method widely used for interference fiber-optic sensors. Research reveals that the amplitude of the interference signal and the modulation depth will affect the result of demodulation. The distortion of the demodulated signal can be reduced by the elimination of the effects of the interference signal amplitude and modulation depth. A phase generated carrier demodulation method for interference fiber-optic sensors is proposed to detect weak ELF signals. Theoretical analysis and simulation have been implemented on the demodulation of weak ELF signals using low-level sub-mixer carrier. The results indicate that in the demodulation of weak ELF signals, DC drift occurs in the DCM approach, while the Arctangent approach does not have this problem. Then, an optical fiber sensing system for ELF signals is established based on optical fiber interferometer, indicating the Arctangent approach is able to demodulate the VLF signals accurately.

Aerodynamic shape optimized design for wind turbine blade using new airfoil series

        Quan Wang,Jun Wang,Jin Chen,Song Luo,Jinfeng Sun 대한기계학회 2015 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.29 No.7

This paper introduces a new airfoil series to optimize the aerodynamic shape of wind turbine blades. It is verified that the CQU-A airfoilseries exhibits high aerodynamic performance by using the wind tunnel experimental data and RFOIL. The geometry of a 2 MWwind turbine blade with new airfoil families is designed preliminarily based on the shape of Tjaereborg 2 MW rotor. A multi-objectiveoptimized model combining the maximum power coefficient of the wind turbine with minimum area of the blade surface is proposed forthe pitch regulated wind turbine. An optimized code is developed based on the corrected blade element momentum (BEM) theory andparticle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The optimization results show that, compared with that of the original rotor and the Tjaereborgrotor, not only the power coefficient and annual power production is improved, but also the area of the blade surface is reduced. The decreased area indicates that the mass of the optimized blades is reduced. It is beneficial for increasing the fatigue life and reducingcost of composite materials if the internal structure of the wind turbine blades is unchanged. Furthermore, the load of the blade root iseffectively controlled by using this alternative optimization program.

      • Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Awareness, Acceptability, and Decision-Making Factors among Chinese College Students

        Wang, Shao-Ming,Zhang, Shao-Kai,Pan, Xiong-Fei,Ren, Ze-Fang,Yang, Chun-Xia,Wang, Zeng-Zhen,Gao, Xiao-Hong,Li, Man,Zheng, Quan-Qing,Ma, Wei,Zhao, Fang-Hui,Qiao, You-Lin,Sivasubramaniam, Priya Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Background: College students are recommended as the target groups for catch-up human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. Systematical exploration of awareness, acceptability, and decision-making factors of HPV vaccination among Chinese college students has been limited. Materials and Methods: A multi-center survey was conducted in mainland China between November 2011 and May 2012. College students aged 18-22 years were stratified by their grade, gender, and major for sampling. Socio-demographic and HPV-related information such as knowledge, perceptions, acceptability, and attitudes were collected through a questionnaire. Results: A total of 3,497 undergraduates completed the questionnaire, among which 1,686 were males. The acceptability of the HPV vaccine was high (70.8%). Undergraduates from high-level universities, at lower grade, or with greater prior knowledge of HPV vaccines showed higher acceptability of HPV vaccination ($p_{trend}$ <0.001). Additionally, undergraduates with vaccination experience outside the National Expanded Program on Immunization (OR=1.29; 95%CI: 1.10-1.51) or fear of HPV-related diseases (OR=2.79; 95%CI: 2.28-3.41) were more willing to accept HPV vaccination. General knowledge of HPV vaccine was low among undergraduates, and safety was a major concern (71.05%). The majority of students wished to pay less than 300RMB for HPV vaccine and chose the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention as the most appropriate venue for vaccination. Conclusions: Although most undergraduates demonstrate positive attitudes towards HPV vaccination, challenges pertaining to introduction exist in China. Corresponding proactive education and governmental subsidy to do so are urgently needed by this age-group population. Suggestions and potential strategies indicated may help shape the future HPV vaccination program in China.
