        Verbal Suffix-Repetition Constructions in Korean: A Constraint-and Construction-based Approach

There are various Verbal Suffix-Repetition (VSR) constructions in Korean, where suffixes such as-na1 tun(ci)/ tun(ka) are attached to the repeated verbs. Calling the VSR Choice-denying Repeated Verbs construction, Lee (2011) claims that the following verb of the VSR, which can he replaced with ma!-, should contain a negative but the preceding verb should be affirmative in the VSR construction which disallows any NPI within it. Unlike Lee (2011), we claim that the verbs in the VSR can freely occur either in the preceding position or in the following one regardless of their Neg value so long as they share the same verbal suffix forms such as -tun(ka). Furthermore, NPIs may occur within the VSR construction if they occur with a negative predicate within the same clause. To implement the findings above into HPSG, we have proposed the two lexical entries for mal-, the VSR Construction Rule, and the NPI Clause-mate Constraint. These tools enable us to account for the idiosyncratic properties of the VSR constructions under this constraint- and construction-based approach.

      • Energy storage capabilities of nitrogen-enriched pyropolymer nanoparticles fabricated through rapid pyrolysis

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nanostructured pyropolymers contain significant amounts of redox-active heteroatoms, have high specific surface areas, and a defective carbon microstructure, indicating good potential for pseudocapacitive charge storage. In this study, nitrogen-enriched pyropolymer nanoparticles (N-PNs-50) are fabricated from polyaniline nanotubes through rapid pyrolysis at 50 °C min<SUP>−1</SUP>. N-PNs-50 exhibit a nitrogen content of 9.8 wt%, a high specific surface area of 875.8 m<SUP>2</SUP> g<SUP>−1</SUP>, and an amorphous carbon structure with an I<SUB> <I>D</I> </SUB>/I<SUB> <I>G</I> </SUB> intensity ratio of 0.95. These unique characteristics lead to good electrochemical performances, in which reversible capacities of 660 and 255 mAh g<SUP>−1</SUP> are achieved for Li-ion and Na-ion storage, respectively, with favorable voltage characteristics (<1.5 V for Li-ions and <1.2 V for Na-ions).         결명자 추출물의 추출특성 및 항산화 효과

        The present study was conducted to investigate extraction characteristics and antioxidative activity of Cassia tora L. extracts, Casia tora L. was extracted by reflux extraction under different extraction conditions including solvent. The solid yield, turbidity, color value, titratable acidity, free sugar contents, electron donating ability and superoxide dismutase-like ability of Cassia tora L. extracts were determined. The highest solid yield value was obtained with water of 10 fold. No significant difference in turbidity and color value were found among the extracts prepared with various extraction solvents, 75% ethanol, 50% ethanol and water. The highest titratable acidity was obtained with 50% ethanol of Cassia tora L.. The free sugar contents of Cassia tora L. extracted with water showed the highest value. Cassia tora L. extracts with water included higher contents of free sugar compared with those of the other solvent extracts, 50% ethanol and 75% ethanol extracts. The total polyphenol compound content of Cassia tora L. extracted with 50% ethanol showed the highest value. Cassia tora L. extracts with 50% ethanol included higher contents of total polyphenol compound compared with those of the other solvent extracts, water and 75% ethanol extracts.

        Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD) is one of the fatal prion diseases. Diagnosis of CJD is mainly based on clinical symptomatology of established criteria, characteristic electroencephalogram, specific cerebrospinal fluid protein measurement, prion protein gene analysis, prion protein isoform detection, and neuropathology. But spongiform change of brain pathology is the only definitive diagnosis of CJD. Clinical symptomatology of CJD includes behavioral disturbances, progressive dementia, cerebellar, pyramidal, and extrapyramidal signs. Most patients show progressive myoclonic jerks that involve either limbs or the entire body. The approximate incidence of CJD is 1 per million and occurs as sporadic, familial and iatrogenic forms. Variant CJD has the strong possibility of cross species transmission between human and cow. It has some differences in clinical and pathological aspects from sporadic CJD. Protease resistant prion protein of scrape isoform may lead to diverse neuronal death in CJD. Recent advannces in CJD reveal that apoptosis, proinflammatory cytokine expression and oxidative stress may play an important role of CJD pathogenesis. There areseveral therapeutic trials in CJD but no therapeutic regimensshow effective results. Although there is much progression about CJD in recent days, a lot of things still remained to be reveled.

        오미자 추출물의 추출특성 및 항산화 효과

Schiznadra chinensis was extracted by reflux extraction(RE) under different extraction conditions including solvent. The solid yield, turbidity, color value, titratable acidity, free sugar contents, electron donating ability(EDA) and superoxide dismutase(SOD)-like ability of Schiznadra chinensis extracts were determined. The highest solid yield value was obtained with water of 10 fold. No significant difference in turbidity and color value were found among the extracts prepared with various extraction solvents, 75% ethanol, 50% ethanol and water. The highest titratable acidity was obtained with water extracts of Schiznadra chinensis. The free sugar contents of Schiznadra chinensis extracted with water showed the highest value. Schiznadra chinensis extracts with water included higher contents of free sugar compared with those of the other solvent extracts, 50% ethanol and 75% ethanol extracts. The total polyphenol compound content of Schiznadra chinensis extracted with 50% ethanol showed the highest value. Schiznadra chinensis extracts with 50% ethanol included higher contents of total polyphenol compound compared with those of the other solvent extracts, water and 75% ethanol extracts. The electron donating ability of extracts were 60.87% in water, 57.24% in 50% ethanol, and 55.61% in 75% ethanol.

      • 개별환경제어(PEM)시스템의 운용에 따른 건물의 에너지절약성에 관한 연구

        The building energy conservation possibility by introducing personal environment module(PEM)system was analyzed by DOE-2.1E building energy analysis program on the 6 stories office building. The results showed energy consumption of the building with PEM system could be increased more than the conventional VAV system when the occupant was not decreased. But the energy consumption rate in the building with PEM could be equal to VAV system when approximately 20% of the occupant is decreased. As a result, basically PEM system can consume more about 9.2%energy than the VAV system, but it can also have the possibility to save energy about 11.4% if it is operating with energy conservative way.

        This work was carried out to propose a model of the most effective layout and installation for applying the Solar Hot Water system to apartment and to offer the basic data for promoting the destribution of this Solar Hot Water system in the country. For this purpose, the performed experiments are as followings: 1)Measurement and analysis of the amount of hot water adn the cost of water used in apartment of which the area is 30 to 40 pyung. 2)to esimate the efficiency of Solar Hot Water System in accordance with an angle of inclination. 3) Analysis of economical efficiency the annual expected saving cost produced by replacing the existing hot water system with the Solar Hot Water System. 4)Proposal of the best model for installing the Solar Hot Water System in apartment by considering the place and sunshine,and compaison of merit and demerit of this system.

        Markers, Index, and Multiple Fragment Answers in Korean

        This paper amis to mainly account for idiosyncratic properties of multiple fragments as an answer to a wh-question in Korean via the Marker and Index values. The main issue on fragment answers is the existence of the marker attached to fragment(s) NP, which is a critical factor to analyze how fragments are linked to corresponding wh-phrase and how they deliver a desirable sentential meaning. Rejecting the previous analyses including Choi & Yoon (2009) and Park (2013), we propose that the Marker and Index values play a key role to get a right meaning of fragment answers. The present analysis provides us with a simple explanation on how (multiple) fragments with or without markers are linked to (the) wh-phrases in a question.

        기후변화에 따라 가뭄 등의 이상기후 빈도 및 강도가 증가하고 있으며 2017년 상반기 전국 강수량은 1973년 이후 역대 최저치였으며 지역별로 강수의 편차 또한 크게 발생하였다. 가뭄의 빈도 및 강도가 심화됨에 따라 농업용수의 효율적인 운용 및 관리에 대한 필요성에 제기되었다. 현행 농업용저수지의 물관리는 과학적 판단 근거나 기준이 없이 경험에 의존하고 있는 실정으로 가뭄 등 재해발생시 지역별 관행적 용수관리 및 물관리자 개인 역량에 따른 편차가 발생하여 최적의 대응에 역부족이다. 가뭄 발생 시 간선, 지선 등 말단수로의 필요수량 공급 부족현상이 빈번히 발생하고 있으며 지역별로 각기 다른 기준으로 저수지 운영이 이루어짐에 따라 농업용수의 배분이 제대로 이루어지는 지에 대한 파악 또는 예측도 어려운 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 관행적 운영현황 분석을 위해 농업용 저수지 공급량을 추정하여 순별 저수지 공급량의 추세를 분석하여 과거 물관리 방법을 재현 하고자 한다. 또한 과거 농업용수 공급패턴에 따라 공급시나리오를 표준화하고 SWMM (Storm Water Management Model)을 통해 들녘단위 용수공급 상황을 모의하여 과거 농업용수 공급 패턴에 따른 수혜면적의 공급여부를 파악하고자 한다.

        Original Article : The factors associated with longitudinal changes in liver stiffness in patients with chronic hepatitis B

        Background/Aims: Liver stiffness (LS) as assessed by transient elastography (TE) can change longitudinally in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The aim of this study was to identify the factors that improve LS. Methods: Between April 2007 and December 2012, 151 patients with CHB who underwent two TE procedures with an interval of about 2 years were enrolled. Ninety-six of the 151 patients were treated with nucleos(t)ide analogues [the antiviral therapy (+) group], while the remaining 55 patients were not [the antiviral therapy (.) group]. The two groups of patients were stratified according to whether they exhibited an improvement or a deterioration in LS during the study period (defined as an LS change of ≤0 or >0 kPa, respectively, over a 1-year period), and their data were compared. Results: No differences were observed between the antiviral therapy (+) and (-) groups with respect to either their clinical characteristics or their initial LS. The observed LS improvement was significantly greater in the antiviral therapy (+) group than in the antiviral therapy (.) group (.3.0 vs. 0.98 kPa, P=0.011). In the antiviral therapy (+) group, the initial LS was higher in the LS improvement group (n=63) than in the LS deterioration group (n=33; 7.9 vs. 4.8 kPa, P<0.001). However, there were no differences in any other clinical characteristic. In the antiviral therapy (.) group, the initial LS was also higher in the LS improvement group (n=29) than in the LS deterioration group (n=26; 8.3 vs. 6.5 kPa, P=0.021), with no differences in any other clinical characteristic. Conclusions: A higher initial LS was the only factor associated with LS improvement in patients with CHB in this study. (Clin Mol Hepatol 2015;21:32-40)
