Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical significance of myocardial injuries in patients with nontraumatic intracranial hemorrhage by identifying the occurrence of myocardial injury and defining its correlation with subsequent cardiovascular events. Subjects and methods: One hundred twenty-four patients with nontraumatic intracraninal hemorrhage presented to the emergency department within six hours from onset of symptoms were enrolled. Brain CT, serial electrocardiography, and echocardiography were done at the emergency center. Blood samples for troponin I and creatine kinase(CK)-MB were drawn immediately and eight hours after admission, Troponin I and CK-MB were measured using a chemiluminescent immunoassay, respectively. Results: Electrocardiographic and echocardiography abnormalities were found in 65 cases(52.4%) and 21 cases(17%), respectively. Serum troponin I and creative kinase-MB were increased in 35 cases (28.2%) and in 58 cases(46.8%), respectively. Abnormal findings of echocardiography and ECG, as well as elevated levels of serum troponin I and creative kinase-MB, were associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular event and survival. Logistic regression analysis revealed that an abnormal echcocardiographic finding and elevation of serum troponin I were factors associated with the occurrence an adverse cardiovascular event and that electrocardiographic abnormalities and initial mental status were factors associated with poor prognosis. Conclusion: This study reveals that actual myocardial injury develops in a significant proportion of patients with nontraumatic intracranial hemorrhage and that the development of the myocardial injury is associated with an adverse cardiovascular event that occurs during admission.

Five photosynthetic bacteria were finally isolated from nature. They showed higher degrading abilily of major organic acids in distillery wastewater such as acetic acid, propionicacid, and butyric acid under anaerobic light corditions(5,000lux, 30℃). Acetic and propionic acids were degraded in first, and then butylic acid was followed with the increasement of pH up to 8.5, All of the organic acids were completely degraded within 60 hours, and the highest value of the specific growth rate(μmax) was 0.29h^-1.
Control of aeration and agitation in antibiotic fermentations

발효공정에서 배양도중에 최대산소소비율을 유지시킬 수 있는 공기공급과 혼합조건이 반드시 갖추어져야 한다. 특히, 항생물질발효는 비교적 장기간배양이루어지기 때문에 공기공급과 혼합외에 경쟁성도 고려해야 한다. 여러 가지 실험조건에서 배양용기의 형태나 용량뿐만 아니라 생산수율의 감소가 없도록 조정하는 것이 중요하다. Oxytetracycline과 oleandomycin발효에서 공기공급과 혼합을 최적조건으로 조절하는 공정변수를 실험적으로 구하였다. A method of choosing the aeration and agitation conditions for a fermentation process has been devised which is based on maintaining the maximum rate of oxygen consumption during the culture. The operation of antibiotic biosynthesis on an aeration and agitation procedure resulting from the method proposed saves energy. The maximum values of the variable agitation-aeration parameters are those which are regarded as optimal regimes for fermentations carried out under constant conditions. The proposed method of choosing combinations of agitation and aeration conditions is not limited by the design or capacity of fermenters and it can therefore be used under industrial conditions without fear decline in the product yield. The kinetics for choosing optimum aeration-agitation conditions can easily be automated and realized technically with the use of any extreme stepwise controller.

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>The brown alga <I>Undaria pinnatifida</I>, which is called Mi-Yoek in Korea, has been traditionally consumed as a health food in East Asian countries. Recent studies have reported that <I>U. pinnatifida</I> has beneficial effects on arteriosclerosis, inflammation, fat metabolism, and tumors<I>.</I> In this study, we examined the anti-senescence effects of ethanol extracts of <I>U. pinnatifida</I> (UP-Ex) in human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs). UP-Ex protected hBM-MSCs against oxidative injury, as determined by MTT assays. This effect was confirmed by immunoblot analysis of the oxidation-sensitive protein p53 and the apoptotic protein cleaved caspase-3. Excessive intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation induced by oxidative stress was moderated in UP-Ex-treated hBM-MSCs (UP-Ex-MSCs). Similarly, expression of the ROS-scavenging enzymes superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), SOD2, and catalase was recovered in UP-Ex-MSCs. Excessive ROS induced by long-term cell expansion (passage 17) was significantly decreased along with restoration of the senescence proteins p53, p21, and p16 in UP-Ex-MSCs.
