하천과 홍수터 생태계에서 생물지형학 연구는 폭 넓은 시공간 차원에서 생물계와 수문-지형체계 사이의 복잡한 다중관계를 다루어 왔다. 본 총설에서는 하천에서 (1) 생물과 수문지형 조건의 다자간 관계, (2) 생물다양성과 서식처 이질성의 관계, (3) 생태계 유형에 대한 교란의 영향에 대하여 설명함으로써 하천지형생물학의 범위와 과정을 논의하였다. 시간적으로 하천의 생물지형 복합체는 지형, 선구, 생물지형 및 생태적 단계의 순서로 전환이 된다. 공간적으로 물 흐름과 유사 분포가 식생과 상호작용하여 하도 지형의 변화가 일어난다. 이렇게 형성된 하천의 공간적 이질성은 하안의 생물종다양성을 증가시킨다. 그러나 댐 하류 하천에서는 서식처 유형과 조건이 심각하게 훼손되어 생물다양성이 저하된다. 우리나라의 하천에서는 최근 국지적 교란과 전 지구적 기후변화로 하안 식생이 번무하고 특히 외래종이 빠르게 정착하고 있다. 따라서 급격한 기후변화와 인류에 의한 압박의 시대에서 하천 생물과 수문지형 조건 사이의 상호 관계를 이해하는 것이 더욱 중요할 것으로 생각된다. 이 총설에서 논의한 하천 생물지형 개념틀은 우리나라 하천의 생태적 관리와 복원에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. In fluvial and riparian ecosystems, biogeomorphological research has considered the complex, multi-way relationships between biological and hydro-geomorphological components over a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. In this review, we discussed the scope and processes of fluvial biogeomorphology by explaining (1) the multi-lateral interactions between organisms and hydrogeomorphic conditions, (2) the relationships between biodiversity and habitat heterogeneity, and (3) the effects of disturbance on ecosystem patterns. Over time, an organism-landform complex along streams transitions in the sequences of geomorphic, pioneer, biogeomorphic, and ecological stages. Over space, water flow and sediment distributions interact with vegetation to modify channel topography. It is the habitat heterogeneity in streams that enhances riparian biodiversity. However, in the areas downstream of a dam, habitat types and conditions are substantially damaged and biodiversity should be reduced. In South Korea, riparian vegetation flourishes in general and, in particular, invasive species actively colonize in accordance with the changes in the fluvial conditions driven by local disturbances and global climate change. Therefore, the importance of understanding reciprocal relationships between living organisms and hydrogeomorphic conditions will ever increase in this era of rapid climate change and anthropogenic pressure. The fluvial biogeomorphic framework reviewed in this article will contribute to the ecological management and restoration of streams in Korea.

Endobronchial tuberculosis is defined as a tuberculous infection of the tracheobronchial tree and has a prevalence of up to 50% in active pulmonary tuberculosis cases. The most common complication of endobronchial tuberculosis is bronchial stenosis; benign fistula formation by endobronchial tuberculosis is rare, especially inter-bronchial fistula formation. We reported a rare case of a 73-year-old woman with a fistula between the right upper bronchus and bronchus intermedius. A diagnosis of inter-bronchial fistula caused by endobronchial tuberculosis was based on the results of chest computed tomography scans, bronchoscopy, and microbiological and pathological tests. The patient was treated with anti-tuberculous medication, and her symptoms gradually improved.

The design profession holds a key to empowering people with all types of physical and cognitive disabilities to move as fully as possible into the mainstream of daily life. Universal design started as better for every one has been mainly applied to the elderly and/or medical facilities. However, safety and flexibility become important marketing tools for environmental and product design. Workplace in which workers spend most of their time is a critical environment for the improvement of quality of life of workers. To eliminate physical barriers in work environment, some functional characteristics of universal design in workplace is reviewed in this study.

본 연구는 일 지역 농촌 노인의 허약수준에 따른 관련요인을 알아보기 위하여 시행된 서술적 조사연구이다. 2019년 10월부터 2020년 3월까지 경상남도 H군에 거주하는 65세 이상 노인 400명으로부터 자료를 수집했다. 노인의 허약수준과 그에 따른 예측요인을 살펴보기 위해 이분형 로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용하여 자료를 분석한 결과, 건강노인은 27.8%, 전허약 노인은 30.9%, 허약노인은 41.3%로 나타났다. 허약 수준에 따른 예측요인을 분석한 결과, 건강 단계에서 전허약 단계로 진입하는 예측요인은 악력, 영양상태, 우울이었고 전허약 단계에서 허약 단계로 진입하는 예측요인은 성별, 영양상태, 신체기능, 우울이었으며 건강 단계에서 허약 단계로 진입하는 예측요인은 성별, 직업, 영양상태, 신체기능, 우울로 밝혀졌다. 본 연구를 통하여 농촌지역 거주노인의 허약수준과, 이에 따른 다차원적 변수들의 영향을 파악할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 농촌지역 노인들의 허약진행을 예방하고 관리하기 위한 방안을 모색하는데 필요한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. This study is a descriptive study conducted to find out the predictive factors according to the level of the frailty of the communitydwelling older adult in a rural area. Data were collected from 400 older adults aged 65 years or older living in rural areas of Gyeongsangnam-do from October 2019 to March 2020. Data were analyzed using logistic regression to examine the predictive factors according to the level of frailty. The results showed that 27.8% for robust older adults, 30.9% for pre-frailty older adults, and 41.3% for frailty older adults. As a result of analyzing the predictive factors according to the level of frailty, the predictors from the robust stage to the pre-frailty stage were grip strength, nutritional status, and depression. The predictive factors for entering the pre-frailty stage into the frailty stage were gender, nutritional status, physical performance ability, and depression. Also, it was found that the predictive factors for entering from the robust stage to the frailty stage were sex, occupation, nutritional status, physical performance ability, and depression. Through this study, it was possible to understand the level of the frailty of the older adults living in rural communities and the effects of multidimensional variables. These results can be used as basic data necessary to find a way to prevent and manage the progression of frailty among older adults in rural areas.
Peli1 promotes microglia-mediated CNS inflammation by regulating Traf3 degradation

Microglia are crucial for the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Here we show that the E3 ubiquitin ligase Peli1 is abundantly expressed in microglia and promotes microglial activation during the course of EAE induction. Peli1mediates the induction of chemokines and proinflammatory cytokines in microglia and therebypromotes recruitment of T cells into the central nervous system. The severity of EAE is reduced inPeli1-deficient mice despite their competent induction of inflammatory T cells in the peripheral lymphoid organs. Notably, Peli1 regulates Toll-like receptor (TLR) pathway signaling by promoting degradation of TNF receptor-associated factor 3 (Traf3), a potent inhibitor of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) activation and gene induction. Ablation of Traf3 restores microglial activation and CNS inflammation after the induction of EAE in Peli1-deficient mice. These findings establish Peli1 as a microglia-specific mediator of autoimmune neuroinflammation and suggest a previously unknown signaling mechanism of Peli1 function.
OTUD7B controls non-canonical NF-kB activation through deubiquitination of TRAF3

The non-canonical NF-κB pathway forms a major arm of NF-κB signalling that mediates important biological functions, including lymphoid organogenesis, B-lymphocyte function, and cell growth and survival. Activation of the non-canonical NF-κB pathway involves degradation of an inhibitory protein, TNF receptor-associated factor 3 (TRAF3), but how this signalling event is controlled is still unknown. Here we have identified the deubiquitinase OTUD7B as a pivotal regulator of the non-canonical NF-κB pathway. OTUD7B deficiency in mice has no appreciable effect on canonical NF-κB activation but causes hyperactivation of non-canonical NF-κB. In response to non-canonical NF-κB stimuli, OTUD7B binds and deubiquitinates TRAF3, thereby inhibiting TRAF3 proteolysis and preventing aberrant non-canonical NF-κB activation. Consequently, the OTUD7Bdeficiency results in B-cell hyper-responsiveness to antigens, lymphoid follicular hyperplasia in the intestinal mucosa, and elevated host-defence ability against an intestinal bacterial pathogen, Citrobacter rodentium. These findings establish OTUD7B as a crucial regulator of signal-inducednon-canonical NF-κB activation and indicate a mechanism of immune regulation that involves OTUD7B-mediated deubiquitination and stabilization of TRAF3.

Tweeter is a microblogging service, which enables users to communicate through sending and receiving brief text messages called 'tweets'. This paper proposes an interface for sonification of mood state in tweets, by tracing current and past timeline. It aims to convey a large number of mood data to users quickly, by use of non-speech sound.

Immunoglobulin class switching is crucial for the generation of antibody diversity in humoral immunity and, when deregulated, also has severe pathological consequences. How the magnitude of immunoglobulin isotype switching is controlled is still poorly understood. Here we identify thekinase TBK1 as a pivotal negative regulator of class switching to the immunoglobulin A (IgA) isotype. B cell-specific ablation of TBK1 in mice resulted in uncontrolled production of IgA and the development of nephropathy-like disease signs. TBK1 negatively regulated IgA class switchingby attenuating noncanonical signaling via the transcription factor NF-κB, an action that involved TBK1-mediated phosphorylation and subsequent degradation of the NF-κB-inducing kinase NIK. Our findings establish TBK1 as a pivotal negative regulator of the noncanonical NF-κB pathway and identify a unique mechanism that controls IgA production.
