The rsmA gene was cloned from soft-rot bacterium Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum LY34 (Pcc LY34), and its role in pathogenicity was investigated by marker exchange mutagenesis. From a cosmid library of Pcc LY34 genomic DNA, a positive clone carrying the rsmA gene was selected, and the gene was cloned by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification. The gene is 186 bp in size and encodes a protein of 62 amino acids with a predicted molecular mass of 6,839 Da. The calculated pI of the RsmA is 8.16. The phylogenetic tree showed that the RsmA of Pcc LY34 appeared genetically identical to the CsrA of Pectobacterium atrosepticum SCRI1043 (100% identity) and similar to the CsrA of Yersinia pestis KIM10+(98.3%). The gene was disrupted by the $Km^r$ gene, and the cells became mutated (i.e., $RsmA^-$ mutant). The pathogenicity test revealed that the disease rating of the $RsmA^-$ mutant only differed slightly from that of the wild type on a slice of potato tuber and a Chinese cabbage stalk. These results suggest that RsmA is not an essential factor for the pathogenicity of Pcc LY34 and that the rsmA gene of Pcc LY34 is not completely derepressed in the $RsmA^-$ mutant for virulence-related genes, contrary to the results of Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora $RsmA^-$ mutant, which proved hypervirulent for celery petioles. These results showed that the microenvironmental conditions of the host and/or strain of pathogen are important for the coordination of virulence gene expression.

Penetrating morphologies at the growth front of abnormally-growing Goss grains in Fe–3%Si steel was examined in view ofthe possibility that they are the two-dimensional section of the solid-state wetting (SSW) along the triple junction line. Toobtain the statistically meaningful data, 102 penetrated grain and 204 penetrating abnormally-growing Goss grain morphologieswere examined. The misorientation angles of penetrating and penetrated grains were measured by electron backscattereddiffraction. Among the 102 examined penetrated grain boundaries, none has low misorientation angles less than 15°,whereas 17.2% of the 204 penetrating grain boundaries have low misorientation angles, and 23.5% of them have coincidencesite lattice boundaries. Besides, boundary energies of penetrating Goss grains, which were estimated from misorientationangles of the three grains in the penetrating morphology, satisfied the energetic condition for SSW along the triple junctionline. These results imply that the abnormal grain growth of Goss grains in Fe–3%Si steel occurs by the mechanism of subboundaryenhanced SSW.

Oxygen deficiency has been frequent in a clouted space. Wood consumes oxygen and discharges carbon dioxide Instead of photosynthesis in closed space without light, so do some microorganisms on the surface. We experienced a case that a healthy Insect-proofer fell down and died of asphyxia on stair-board at 7 m below the hatch of the cargo-hold shipping wood Analysis of gases in cargo-hold revealed O2; 12.3%, CO; 105 ppm, CH4; 2.7%, and H2S; 1.9% at 1 m below the hatch, and then O2; 6.1%, CO; 220 ppm, CH4; 2.9%, and H2S, 2.3 ppm at 2.5 m below the hatch. Autopsy findings were unremarkable. We justiced the cause of death asphyxia due to oxygen deficiency. As seen in this case, the serious oxygen deficiency was accounted for oxygen consumption by wood and microorganisms.

The imports of used medical equipment such as CT, MRI have been rapidly increased every year. How to manage those medical equipment has been one of critical issues in the government sector. In this study, we demonstrate how benefit/cost analysis using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) can be applied to the comparison of used CT/MRI and new CT/MRI. The final results show that the new CT/MRI is more attractive than the used CT/MRI.
학술연구비지원정책의 효과에 관한 실증적 분석 : 연구비지원방식과 연구결과물 수준의 관계를 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 한국학술진흥재단의 연구비 지원방식과 연구논문 수준과의 관계를 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위한 연구질문은 다음의 네 가지이다. ①연구자의 과거 연구업적이 우수할수록 연구결과물의 수준이 높은가? ②과제당 연구지원금액의 증가는 연구결과물의 수준을 향상시키는가? ③'다수소액과제'지원에서 '소수다액과제'지원으로의 변화는 연구결과물의 질을 향상시키는가? ④연구비 규모가 큰 공동연구과제는 규모가 작은 개인연구과제에 비하여 우수한 연구결과물을 산출하는가? 이를 규명하기 위하여 1996년부터 1999년까지 학술진흥재단에서 지원한 자유공모, 선도연구자, 신진연구자, 협동연구, 연구소 과제 8,511개 중에서 1,600여 과제를 선정하여 연구결과물 수준, 연구업적, 지원금액 등의 정보를 사용하여 기술통계 및 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. ①연구자의 논문실적과 연구결과물의 수준 사이에는 양의 상관관계가 있으며, 이는 공동 연구보다 개인연구에서 더 뚜렷하다. ②개인과제는 공동과제에 비하여 연구결과물 수준이 대체로 더 우수하다. ③개인연구과제의 경우 지원금액과 연구결과물 수준은 별 관계가 없는 것으로 판단된다. ④자연·공학 분야 공동연구관제의 경우 지원금액이 많을수록 연구결과물 수준이 높아지는 경향이 있다. This paper analyses the relations between the quality of research and the method of grant allowance by Korea Research Foundation. To do this, we examine following issues: 1) the relations between the quality of research and the researcher's past research results: 2) the relations between the quality of research and the amount of grant: 3) the relations between the quality of research and the changes of policy from "small grant to many researchers" to "large grant to selective researchers": 4) the comparisons of research quality between the individual research and the joint research. The results are as follows: 1) there exist positive correlations between quality of research and the researcher's past research results: 2) no clear relations exist between quality of research and amount of grant in individual researches, however, some positive correlations exist between research quality and grant amount in joint researches of the natural science and engineering fields: 3) the quality of individual research is superior to the quality of joint research in general.
남원시 생활하수가 요천 수질오염에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

The Yo stream(drainage area: 526.08㎢, length: 52.0㎞) is one of the branchs of the Seom Jin river. In order to evaluate effects of the sewage in Nam-Won City(I) on the water pollution of the Yo stream, water qulity analysis and estimate the pollutant discharge rate were carried out at six sites in the Yo stream basin from December 1994 to September 1995. The results of research are summarized as follow: 1. According to the water quality of six sites evaluated by BOD, ST1 is classified into I grade, ST2 and ST3 are II grade, ST4∼ST6 sites are III grade. 2. Amount of total BOD load from the Yo stream basin was estimated 11,810㎏/day of which 13.9% was contributed by land, 0.1%, was contributed by industrial waste water, 43% was contributed by population and livestock, respectively. 3. As Nam-Won city(I), discharge rate and effluence rate of BOD, SS were estimated 28.4%, 10.6% and 20.6%, respectively. 4. Since Nam-Won city sewage treatment plant started operation, BOD, SS reduction rate of Nam-Won city(I) were forecasted 36.1% and 20.6%, respectively.

The purpose of this study is to produce fair judo judges by examining and analyzing the judicial consciousness during the authentic judo games as well as to attribute to consistent and clear judgment. In accordance with the result of the study I suggest: First, we must try to make judo judges participate continuously in the training program for judo judges and offer them some helpful programs to judge modern judo which is changing right now and to adapt to the new skills or the changed judicial rules so that they may enhance their accurate positions. Second, the judo judges are required to perceive their concrete judicial criteria by repeated practice considering when to give the positive scores and when to give the negative scores after being given the information. Third, more organized training project is needed especially before judo competition, in addition, simulated judicial practice by analyzing some real games on video is helpful to relieve the judo judges' anxiety. Fourth, the judo judge who commited misjudgment or made mistakes on account of his/her circumstances such as his/her academical, regional connections and the teal leaders must be got cold and definite punishment. Lastly, more qualified judo judges, who are distributed fairly in order to be offered more experience are the resources toward he equally high-leveld-judo judges-state. Therefore, we need to study more on the specific elements which influence on the judo judges' judgment and the giving scores.
