Infiltrative Lipoma Invading the Anal Sac in a Dog: A Rare Case Report

A 6-year-old female Chihuahua was presented to the Animal Medical Center for surgical resection of a perineal mass that had recently increased in size. Ultrasonography revealed a large, homogeneous fatty mass with irregular margins between the surrounding muscle layers due to infiltrating fatty tissues. Cytological findings from fine-needle aspirates revealed numerous sheets and clusters of adipocytes, which was consistent with the fatty mass. Based on ul- trasonographic and cytological findings, an infiltrative lipoma was suspected. During the surgery, the perineal mass was found to be non-encapsulated, irreg- ularly marginated, and extensively distributed into the surrounding muscles. The mass extended inside the pelvic cavity and left anal sac. The perineal mass was surgically removed and submitted for histopathologic examination. Histopathol- ogy confirmed that the mass was an infiltrative lipoma invading into the anal sac and surrounding muscles. The present report was an unusual presentation of infiltrative lipoma that invaded the anal sac in the perineum.

A 1-year-old castrated male Korean Shorthair cat presented with dys- pnea, anorexia, lethargy, and seizures. Physical examination revealed salivation, right forelimb hemiparesis, and rapid breathing. No abnormalities were detected on auscultation. Laboratory findings revealed increased levels of bilirubin, aspar- tate aminotransferase (AST), globulin, glucose, and a decreased albumin-to-glob- ulin (A:G) ratio. Both N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and feline serum amyloid A (fSAA) levels were significantly elevated. Thoracic radiogra- phy revealed mild cardiomegaly and diffuse increased interstitial infiltration with soft tissue opacity in the periphery of the right caudal pleural space. Echocardi- ography and lung ultrasonography were performed to investigate the cause of mild cardiomegaly and soft tissue opacity in the pleural space. Echocardiography revealed a mild amount of echogenic pericardial effusion, and lung ultrasonog- raphy showed an echogenic soft tissue mass with no blood signal in the right caudal pleural space, suggestive of a granulomatous lesion. After obtaining 5 mL of pericardial fluid through pericardiocentesis, cytology of the pericardial effusion sample revealed marked neutrophils and macrophages with no bacteria. IDEXX feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) virus real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) confirmed the presence of the FIP virus biotype in the sample. This case presents a rarely reported atypical mixed form of FIP in a cat di- agnosed ante-mortem using pericardial effusion analysis. In this case, ultrasound examination played a crucial role in the definitive diagnosis of FIP by PCR biotyping through pericardiocentesis. Ultrasonography can be highly beneficial in guiding the diagnosis and evaluation of cats with suspected FIP.

암 치료 시 발생하는 증상 및 부작용은 즉각적인 모니터가 필요한 영역으로, 최근 디지털헬스 시장의 성장과 다양한 의료 영역에서 모바일 중재 효과를 바탕으로 환자 중심의 ‘암환자 증상 모니터 어플리케이션’을 구현하였다. 그러나 암과 같은 대부분의 만성 질환은 정보의 취약 계층인 중년 및 노인에게 발생하여 모바일의 적극적인 활용과 적용에 대한 제한이 있어 왔다. 더불어 단순한 건강 지식을 넘어 증상 관련 정보를 이해할 수 있는 ‘건강 정보 이해능력(health literacy)’과 모바일에 대한 개념과 용어, 기술 수행 및 이를 처리하는 능력, 즉 디지털 리터리시(digital literacy)에 대한 통찰이 함께 필요하지만 현재까지 국내외 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 실제 임상에서 암환자에게 증상 및 부작용 모니터를 효율적으로 도입하기 위해 ‘모바일 어플리케이션’에 대한 수행도를 확인하였고, 모바일 리터리스(mobile literacy)를 함께 탐색하였다.
Literature Review about Virtual Reality-Based Education for Healthcare Students

The purpose of this study was to analyzed the current status of the of the Virtual Reality-based education for healthcare students in Korea. Five databases (KoreaMed, KMbase, NDSL, KISS, KiSTi) were searched prior to July 2022. A total 10 articles met the inclusion criteria. 5 articles developed VR-based education contents and the other 5 articles were using vSim already developed as a VR education program and evaluated the effectiveness. As a result of this literature review, VR-based education program was found to be effective in improving the healthcare students’ competency. VR-based education program could be considered to improve the healthcare students’ clinical practice ability.

<P>As the software complexity drastically increases for multiresource real-time systems, industries have great needs for analytically validating real-time behaviors of their complex software systems. Possible candidates for such analytic validations are the end-to-end response time analysis techniques that can analytically find the worst-case response times of real-time transactions over multiple resources. The existing techniques, however, exhibit severe overestimation when real-time transactions visit the same resource multiple times, which we call a multiple visit problem. To address the problem, this paper proposes a novel analysis that completely changes its analysis viewpoint from classical per-job basis—aggregation of per-job response times—to per-resource basis—aggregation of per-resource total delays. Our experiments show that the proposed analysis can find significantly tighter bounds of end-to-end response times compared with the existing per-job-based analysis.</P>
