The purpose of this study was to figure out the effects of participation in a combined exercise program on the body composition and physical fitness of adults with mental retardation. Fifteen adults with mental retardation in a special institute took part in aerobic and strength , combined exercise at 55 - 69%HRmax at least one hour a day, 3 times a week for 20 weeks. The body composition and physical fitness profiles of subjects were measured before and after training period, respectively. Dependent t-test was used to analyze the statistical significance. The results were as follows; First, participants showed more favorable % body fat, lean body mass, fat mass, WHR after training. Second, participants showed more improved upper body strength and balance after training. The findings imply that the combined exercise program for long duration had significant effects on the health promotion of adults with mental retardation.

In many applications researchers have been interested in implementation of Viterbi decoding algorithm for convolution codes. But it is problems that long constraint length codes need many storages and hardware implementation is complicated. In this paper, several stages of trellis diagram are integrated and this procedures are formulated into simple matrix operations. Also backtracking decoding procedures is eliminated. This algorithm is called a new Viterbi transform (VT) . The number of the trellis search can be reduced using the VT. Because of local memory access, the storages can be taken in. Long constraint length codes can be decoded by combining the unit module processors.
신경섬유종증 환자에게서 발생한 특발성 혈소판 감소증 1예

Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura is a disease characterized by thrombocytopenia in peripheral blood with positive anti-platelet antibody titer, no splenomegaly, the presence of megakarocyte. The causes of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura were usually related to autoimmune disease, infection and drugs. A 46-years-old man was admitted for evaluation of abdominal mass. He has many cafe-au-lait spots and nodules in almost skin for 30 years. Several years ago, he palpated mass in Lt. inguinal area. hIe has known the abdominal mass after checking abdomen CT in local clinic and visited our hospital for evaluation of abdominal mass. At admission, laboratory tests showed hemoglobin 12.5 g/dL, hematocrit 38.4 %, WBC 5,460 /㎣ (neutrophil 64.5%, lymphocyte 21.7%, monocyte 4.1%, eosinophil 5.4%), reticulocyte 0.7%, Platelet 52,000 /㎣, total protein 6.51 g/dL, albumin 3.80 g/dL, alkaline pohsphatase 161 IU/L, AST 110.7 IU/L, ALT 64.9 IU/L, total bilirubin 0.44 ㎎/dL, BUN 18.4 ㎎/dL, creatinine 0.79 ㎎/dL. Peripheral blood smear showed normocytic normochromic anemia, thrombocytopenia. Bone marrow aspiration smear showed normoplastic myeloid and erythroid precursor. The bone marrow biopsy section shows normocellular marrow (35%) for his age and mildly increasing myeloid cell lineage. We have experienced a case of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in a patient being in neurofibromatosis and therefore reporting it with documentary records. 저자들은 신경섬유종증 환자에서 특별한 원인을 발견할 수 없었음에도 특발성 혈소판 감소증이 발생한 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

Background/Aims: We sought to increase our understanding of the rhinitis-asthma relationship and improve strategies for the treatment of patients with these diseases. The aim of this study was to identify a connection between upper airway inflammation and lower airway responsiveness. Methods: We counted eosinophils on nasal smears, and performed spirometry, allergic skin tests, and methacholine challenge tests in 308 schoolchildren plus a questionnaire on respiratory symptoms. The methacholine concentration causing a 20% fall in forced expiratory volume in 1 second (PC20 < 25 mg/mL) was used as the threshold of bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR). Results: In total, 26% of subjects had positive nasal eosinophils on a smear, and 46.2% of subjects had BHR at < 25 mg/mL methacholine PC20. Nasal symptoms were higher in subjects with than without nasal eosinophils (p = 0.012). Asthma symptoms did not differ between subjects with and without nasal eosinophils. Nasal eosinophils were higher in subjects with atopy than those without (p = 0.006), and there was no difference in PC20 methacholine according to atopy (15.5 ± 1.07 vs. 17.5 ± 0.62; p > 0.05). No difference in BHR was detected when comparing subjects with and without nasal eosinophils. There were significant differences in the PC20 between subjects with greater than 50% nasal eosinophils and without nasal eosinophils (11.01 ± 2.92 mg/mL vs. 17.38 ± 0.61 mg/mL; p < 0.001). Conclusions: These findings demonstrated that nasal eosinophilic inflammation might contribute to lower airway responsiveness in schoolchildren, based on an epidemiological survey.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A facile and scalable spray pyrolysis process is applied to synthesize multi-shelled Ni-loaded yolk-shell catalysts on various supports (Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, CeO<SUB>2</SUB>, ZrO<SUB>2</SUB>, and La(OH)<SUB>3</SUB>). The prepared catalysts are applied to direct internal reforming (DIR) in a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC). Even on exposure to alkali hydroxide vapors, the Ni-loaded yolk-shell catalysts remain highly active for DIR-MCFCs. The Ni@Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> microspheres show the highest conversion (92%) of CH<SUB>4</SUB> and the best stability among the prepared Ni-loaded yolk-shell catalysts. Although the initial CH<SUB>4</SUB> conversion of the Ni@ZrO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres is higher than that of the Ni@CeO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres, the Ni@CeO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres are more stable. The catalytic performance is strongly dependent on the surface area and acidity and also partly dependent on the reducibility. Administration of autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has been shown to improve renal function and histological findings in acute kidney injury (AKI) models. However, its effects in chronic kidney disease (CKD) are unclear, particularly in the clinical setting. Here, we report our experience with a CKD patient who was treated by intravenous infusion of autologous MSCs derived from adipose tissue in an unknown clinic outside of Korea. The renal function of the patient had been stable for several years before MSC administration. One week after the autologous MSC infusion, the preexisting renal insufficiency was rapidly aggravated without any other evidence of AKI. Hemodialysis was started 3 months after MSC administration. Renal biopsy findings at dialysis showed severe interstitial fibrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration, with a few cells expressing CD34 and CD117, 2 surface markers of stem cells. This case highlights the potential nephrotoxicity of autologous MSC therapy in CKD patients.
