        Women Entrepreneurs’ Political Participation in China

        Based on a questionnaire survey of 132 female entrepreneurs in Zhejiang, a Chinese province that is famous for its entrepreneurship, this research examines female Chinese entrepreneurs’ participation in political processes by analyzing how female entrepreneurs undertake non-governmental positions from the following three perspectives: Their understanding of political participation, the determinants of their political participation, and their political participation behaviors. The research findings indicated that female entrepreneurs’ personal traits, such as their educational attainments, professional skills, and economic status, had significantly positive impacts on their political participation, and that the division of labor within households was no longer a constraint to female entrepreneurs’ political participation. Huge gaps were identified between what women entrepreneurs understood and perceived, and what motivated their political participation. Female entrepreneurs’ families had neither encouraging nor discouraging attitudes toward their political participation. Organizations, however, played fundamental roles in facilitating and arranging for female entrepreneurs’ political participation. Most female entrepreneurs’ political participation was more characteristic of an organizational arrangement, while improving business performance and advancing their own interests were female entrepreneurs’ real concerns for becoming politically engaged.

        Serum MicroRNA Levels as a Noninvasive Diagnostic Biomarker for the Early Diagnosis of Hepatitis B Virus-Related Liver Fibrosis

        Background/Aims: To investigate the role of selected serum microRNA (miRNA) levels as potential noninvasive biomarkers for differentiating S0-S2 (early fibrosis) from S3-S4 (late fibrosis) in patients with a chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Methods: One hundred twenty-three treatment-naive patients with a chronic HBV infection who underwent a liver biopsy were enrolled in this study. The levels of selected miRNAs were measured using a real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay. A logistic regression analysis was performed to assess factors associated with fibrosis progression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and discriminant analyses validated these the ability of these predicted variables to discriminate S0-S2 from S3-S4. Results: Serum miR-29, miR-143, miR-223, miR-21, and miR-374 levels were significantly downregulated as fibrosis progressed from S0-S2 to S3-S4 (p<0.05), but not miR-16. The multivariate logistic regression analysis identified a panel of three miRNAs and platelets that were associated with a high diagnostic accuracy in discriminating S0-S2 from S3-S4, with an area under the curve of 0.936. Conclusions: The levels of the studied miRNAs, with the exception of miR-16, varied with fibrosis progression. A panel was identified that was capable of discriminating S0-S2 from S3-S4, indicating that serum miRNA levels could serve as a potential noninvasive biomarker of fibrosis progression.         Design and vibration parameter test of low-frequency axial vibration drilling tool handle

        Vibration drilling technology has the advantages of reliable chip breaking, smooth chip removal, small drilling force, and slight tool wear. However, most of the current vibration drilling devices are special machine tools, or the existing machine tools are transformed. The problems of high cost, poor universality, and difficult parameter adjustment limit the further promotion of vibration drilling technology. Based on the principle of friction transmission, this paper designs a low-frequency axial vibration drilling tool handle with adjustable amplitude and connected with the machine tool by standard connection mode. The design principle of the frequency rotation ratio of the vibration drilling tool handle is obtained, the working principle and amplitude adjustment mode of the tool handle are analyzed, and the theoretical vibration curve of the tool handle is calculated by analyzing the chip-breaking mechanism of vibration drilling. The actual amplitude and axial output characteristics of the tool handle were tested, thereby guiding the further application of vibration drilling.

        Analysis of transcriptomic profiles and physiological traits of exogenous 24-epibrassinolide alleviating salt stress in Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz.

        Exogenous 24-epibrassinolide (24-epiBL) application is a preferred method for improving salt tolerance in plants. However, information about the effects of exogenous 24-epiBL application related to salt response in Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz. (AMK) has rarely been reported. Here, we aimed to investigate the effects of exogenous 24-epiBL (0.01 mg L−1) on enhancing salt tolerance in AMK seedlings under salt stress (5 g L−1 NaCl) based on seed germination experiments. Our results indicated that NaCl treatment suppresses AMK seed germination, while 24-epiBL treatment under nonstress and stress conditions had positive effects on plant seedling growth. Treatment with NaCl significantly inhibited radicle elongation and root activity to endure salt stress, and 24-epiBL treatment promoted growth and alleviated the damage to osmotic stress, ion stress sub- stances, and oxidative stress by regulating free proline (Pro) and soluble protein (SP) contents and enhancing soluble sugar (SS) conversion. Moreover, the expression of normal development process genes was affected, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in multiple pathways associated with amino acid metabolism, signal transduction, carbohydrate metabolism, and lipid metabolism were regulated under NaCl treatment. Further analysis of the AMK transcriptome profile revealed that exogenous 24-epiBL enhanced salt tolerance through hormone regulation and carbohydrate metabolism promotion, salt- responsive gene expression inhibition, and induction of pathways related to terpenoid and polyketide metabolism as well as pentose and glucuronate interconversions for plant growth promotion. Collectively, our findings successfully demonstrate that exogenous 24-epiBL plays a positive role in regulating the AMK response to salt stress, which provides potential genetic resources to improve salt tolerance in plants.

        Stable pH sensitivity of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interfacial electronic gas

        Probing pH value is essential for many applications. The request of developing stable and highly sensitive pH sensor with small size are increased recently, this is a challenge to the traditional glass pH sensors. This work investigated the pH sensing performance of the novel two-dimensional electronic gas (2DEG) at the LaAlO3/ SrTiO3 heterostructure interface discovered recently. The experimental results demonstrated that the devices host excellent sensing ability to the pH value of aqueous solutions. Quite stable output current is realized for a given pH value, and the output current is linearly dependent on pH value as required by sensor applications. This work would prompt the application research of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterostructure and design of new generation of advanced pH sensors.

        The Biotypes, Wing-forms and the Immigration of Brown Planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens Stal, in Zhejiang Province, China

        The virulence change (biotype), wing form development and immigration of brown planthopper (BPH) Nilaparvata lugens Stal, population in Zhejiang province was studied as compared to these BPH populations collected from Guangxi and Yunnan province, China and Philippines. The results indicate that the Zhejiang population could successfully infest variety IR26 and Mudgo after 1989, and ASD7 and IR36 after 1998, showing the characters of BPH biotype 2 and biotypes 3. The BPH tropical populations such as Guangxi population, however, adapted the resistant varieties IR26, Mudgo and ASD7 earlier. In 1997, the nymphal survival indices of Guangxi and Yunnan populations on Rathu Heenati (Bph3) were up to 70.9 and 66.7 respectively, higher than Zhejiang population. The Zhejiang populations show low brachupterous rates and have a negative correlation with nymphal density, belonging to the temperate type. The Philippine populations are almost brachypterous, however, the brachypterous rates of BPH males raise with the increase of nymphal density. The Guangxi population has a high brachypterous rate, being similar to the tropical type. On the other hand, tests showed that the lowest survival rate, longer duration of nymphs and the lightest weight of brachypterous female occurred in the $2^{nd}$ generation of BPH after continuously feeding on resistant variety. Physiologically, the highest activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were detected in the second generation of the BPH feeding on resistant rice variety.
