초고속 광통신용 Avalanche photodiode의 제작 및 특성에 관한 연구

We review the characteristics of Avalache photodiode(APD) for long haul and high bit- rate optical fiber communication system including basic operating principle, excess noise factor, and bandwidth, and we also summarize recent progress. Separate absorption garding, charge and multiplication APD with charge plate layers instead of guard ring was designed and fabricated using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition and reactive ion etching technique. APD shows 37∼48V of breakdown voltage and very low dark current less than 10 nA at 90% of breakdown voltage. Receiver consisting of APD and Ga As pre - amplifier shows sensitivity of - 33.6dBm in the application of the pseudorandom 2^23-1 non- returen- to- zero(NRZ) patterns at 10^-9 bit error rate(BER).
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus를 동반한 Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis and lupus erythematosus are chronic, potentially disabling diseases of unknown cause. It is a rare occasion that the finding of both diseases occurs in one patient. Because both diseases may affect the central nervous system, it may be difficult at times to differentiate symptoms of lupus erythematosus from those of multiple sclerosis. As far as we know, there was no case report of SLE in multilple sclerosis in Korea. We report a case of multiple sclerosis accompanied by SLE.

저자들은 국내에서 처음으로 음핵 비대와 지속적인 질출혈을 주소로 내원한 19세 여성에서 고혈압이 동반되지 않으면서 11 -수산화효소 결핍으로 인한 선천성부신증식증을 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 이를 보고하는 바이다. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia refers to a group of autosomal recessive disorders that is defective in the synthesis of cortisol. The enzymes most often affected are 21-hydroxylase and 11 - hydroxylase. The low levels of cortisol stimulate the pituitary gland to release ACTH. Chronic elevation of the ACTH level causes bilateral adrenal hyperplasia and a secondary increase in androgen formation. We examined a 19 year-old woman presented with clitoral hypertrophy and vaginal spotting. The subjects basal level of serum cortisol was low, but the serum levels of ACTH, 17a-hydroxyprogesterone, deoxy-corticosterone were elevated. The urinary excretions of 17-ketosteroids and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids were also increased. The karyotyping study and transrectal ultrasonography showed normal findings. The patient underwent clitoris reduction surgery and received hydrocortisone. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of 11 -hydroxylase deficiency in Korea (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 19:58∼63, 2004).
Genome-Wide Association Study of Rice Core Set Related to Grain Weight

Rice is being consumed in over 50% of the world's population, and it is main food in Korea. Many accessions of rice have been utilized for breeding purposes such as the use for functional food, disease resistance, improved quality and yield. In this study, the 1000-grain weight, one of important components for yield in rice, was investigated and analyzed by conducting a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using whole genome SNP genotype data on 295 Korean rice core sets. Four genes, Os01g0315700, Os03g0604566, Os04g0413500 and Os05g0216950, are significantly associated with 1000-grain weight. We presume carefully that the function of these kind genes will help in the selection of intermediate parents with high yield and genetic markers to develop new varieties.
Comparison of Clinico-Physiologic and CT Imaging Risk Factors for COPD Exacerbation

<P>To date, clinico-physiologic indices have not been compared with quantitative CT imaging indices in determining the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation. We therefore compared clinico-physiologic and CT imaging indices as risk factors for COPD exacerbation in patients with COPD. We retrospectively analyzed 260 COPD patients from pulmonary clinics at 11 hospitals in Korea from June 2005 to November 2009 and followed-up for at least one year. At the time of enrollment, none of these patients had COPD exacerbations for at least 2 months. All underwent clinico-physiologic and radiological evaluation for risk factors of COPD exacerbation. After 1 yr, 106 of the 260 patients had at least one exacerbation of COPD. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that old age, high Charlson Index, and low FEV<SUB>1</SUB> were significant in a clinico-physiologic model, with C-statistics of 0.69, and that increased age and emphysema index were significant in a radiologic model, with C-statistics of 0.64. The difference between the two models was statistically significant (<I>P</I> = 0.04 by bootstrap analysis). Combinations of clinico-physiologic risk factors may be better than those of imaging risk factors in predicting COPD exacerbation.</P>

Nodules are frequently observed after soft tissue augmentation. Chronic and intractable nodules that persist for months despite such procedures may become increasingly fibrotic, and thus require excision due to the possibility of foreign body granuloma. A 48-year-old female presented with multiple skin-colored nodularities on her forehead. She had received hyaluronic acid (HA) filler injections for forehead volume augmentation one year prior. The patient was treated using a minimally invasive intradermal needle RF device twice at 1-week intervals. The treatment resulted in significant improvement of the forehead contour. We suggest bipolar RF as an effective and safe treatment method for implant nodules.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare and analyse the difference of performance-related isokinetic muscle functions, anaerobic capabilities, pedaling power and maximum strength according to race-class of racing cyclists. Methods: The participants in this study were 57 racing cyclists candidates who graduated from the Korea racing school in 2012-2016. race class of candidates was obtained one year after graduation and divided into three groups : First-class racer group (FC, n=14), Second-class racer group (SC, n=29), Third-class racer group (TC, n=14). The isokinetic trunk and knee flexion/extension muscle strength were measured using HUMAC NORM and basic physical strength such as squat, bench press, and grip strength was analyzed by Ariel device. Results: As a result of this study, %fat in FC group was the lowest compared to other groups. isokinetic knee flexion strength was higher in FC group than SC and TC racer groups. peak power and average power of pedaling power as well as maximum muscle strength were significantly higher in FC group than in other groups. Conclusion: Our findings suggest new evidence that pedaling power and isokinetic muscle strength might be closely associated with Korea race-class of racing-cyclists.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We present an LED-waveguide-based neural probe array with the highest total light power delivery from a single commercial LED. A separable configuration between the LED and the waveguide has been proposed and verified experimentally for a disposable probe tip. The system comprises of a disposable MEMS optrode array and a reusable unit. The optrode array consists of a 4 × 4 array of 6 mm-long optical fibers assembled with thermally reflowed square-shaped glass microlenses. The reusable unit includes a domed top LED and driving circuitry. Heavy metal(loid) contamination of rice is the main issue in abandoned metal mine area with regard to food safety. A field study was conducted in mine area to see if soil amendments treatment including calcium superphosphate, sulfur, steel slag and S-containing fertilizer could reduce As and/or Cd content in rice grain and increase the growth of rice. The As content in brown rice reduced to 60% compared to the control only in $7.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of steel slag treatment. Cd reduction in rice was thought to be not the effect of amendments but the result from the difference in growth and development of rice plant and this could be ascribed to low soil Cd availability to rice plant. Compared with control, increased rice yield of cultivar Hwanggeumnuri was 1.3~2.2 and $1.5Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in calcium super phosphate and S-containing fertilizer treatment, respectively and the trend was also observed in cultivar Ungwang. However, steel slag treatment reduced the Ungwang yield by $0.4{\sim}0.9Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Future work will be needed to establish the agricultural measure with which secure the safety and yield of rice simultaneously.
