        The role of FGF-2 in smoke-induced emphysema and the therapeutic potential of recombinant FGF-2 in patients with COPD

        <▼1><P>Although the positive effects of recombinant fibroblast growth factor-2 (rFGF-2) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been implicated in previous studies, knowledge of its role in COPD remains limited. The mechanism of FGF2 in a COPD mouse model and the therapeutic potential of rFGF-2 were investigated in COPD. The mechanism and protective effects of rFGF-2 were evaluated in cigarette smoke-exposed or elastase-induced COPD animal models. Inflammation was assessed in alveolar cells and lung tissues from mice. FGF-2 was decreased in the lungs of cigarette smoke-exposed mice. Intranasal use of rFGF-2 significantly reduced macrophage-dominant inflammation and alveolar destruction in the lungs. In the elastase-induced emphysema model, rFGF-2 improved regeneration of the lungs. In humans, plasma FGF-2 was decreased significantly in COPD compared with normal subjects (10 subjects, <I>P</I> <I>=</I> 0.037). The safety and efficacy of inhaled rFGF-2 use was examined in COPD patients, along with changes in respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function. A 2-week treatment with inhaled rFGF-2 in COPD (<I>n</I> = 6) resulted in significantly improved respiratory symptoms compared with baseline levels (<I>P</I> <I><</I> 0.05); however, the results were not significant compared with the placebo. The pulmonary function test results of COPD improved numerically compared with those in the placebo, but the difference was not statistically significant. No serious adverse events occurred during treatment with inhaled rFGF-2. The loss of FGF-2 production is an important mechanism in the development of COPD. Inhaling rFGF-2 may be a new therapeutic option for patients with COPD because rFGF-2 decreases inflammation in lungs exposed to cigarette smoke.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Lung disease: Inhaling a protein might help</B></P><P>Studies on the role of the protein ‘fibroblast growth factor-2’ (FGF-2) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) suggest that inhaled FGF-2 could help treat the emphysema linked to smoking. Researchers in South Korea led by Young-Koo Jee at Dankook University, Cheonan, and Yeon-Mok Oh at the University of Ulsan, Seoul, studied the role of the reduced FGF-2 levels found in mice with lung inflammation caused by exposure to cigarette smoke. They also uncovered details of a protective effect of inhaled FGF-2, identifying specific cellular and lung structure changes attributed to the administered FGF-2. Reduced FGF-2 levels were also found in patients with COPD. Initial trials revealed some improvement in patients treated with FGF-2, but not at a statistically significant level. Nevertheless, the authors suggest their results justify further investigation of the protein’s therapeutic potential.</P></▼2>

      • XML 웹서비스와 인식기술을 이용한 웹브라우저 구현

        본 연구에서는 XML 웹서비스와 음성인식기술을 사용하여 음성웹문서를 처리할 수 있는 웹브라우저 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 이 시스템은 음성웹문서를 위한 웹브라우저와 웹서버, 음성인식을 수행하는 웹서비스의 구동 기능으로 구성된다. 이 웹브라우저에서는 음성인식용 웹문서의 하이퍼링크를 클릭하는 대신에 하이퍼링크 음성을 녹음하고 노이즈가 제거된 상태로 웹서버에 전달한다. 이 기능은 ActiveX 컨트롤로 구현하였다. 컨트롤은 인식 및 노이즈제거 처리가 완료되면 웹문서와의 상호동작을 위하여 이벤트와 속성을 제공한다. 웹문서에서는 컨트롤이 발생하는 이벤트의 처리를 위하여 script가 실행된다. 웹서버는 웹문서가 구축되는 사이트의 서버로서 수신되는 음성신호를 XML 웹서비스를 이용하여 인식하고 인식 결과의 웹페이지를 브라우저로 전송하는 기능이 필요하다. 이 기능은 XML 웹서비스로 구현하였다. 음성인식은 XML웹서비스로 구동되는 별도의 인식시스템에서 이루어진다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 방식을 채택하여 임의의 고객에게 음성인식스템의 서비스를 제공할 수 있다. In this thesis, we designed and implemented the web browser system that is able to handle the speech web document using the XML web service and speech recognition technology. The system is consisted of the web browser and web server for the speech web document and the function to drive the XML web service to activate the speech recognition. On the web browser, the hyperlinks are not clicked but also the speech sounds of the hyperlink text are recorded and the noises included in the speech data are eliminated and are transmitted to the web server. The functions are implemented in the ActiveX control which submits the event when completes the recording speech and eliminating noises and the web document catches the event and driving the handler function. The web server, which has the speech web documents, recognizes the speech sounds received from the web browser through calling the XML web service and replies the HTML pages to the web browser. The speech recognition is accomplished in the other system which has the function of the XML web service. Adopting the method of the XML web service, this study is able to supply the service of the speech recognition to any clients which are in any platforms.

      • 초등학교에서의 시설배치유형에 따른 공유영역에 관한 연구 : 광주광역시 초등학교를 중심으로 Focusing on Elementary School in Kwangju

        The common territory of human activity within elementary school is the intermediate area transferred into the private internal area from public external area, accommodates the various acts and is the area of social exchange to settle the extinction from others and to keep a good relationship with them. Common Territory can be divided into the central area which is the first stage in the process of making public area with strong sense of ownership and exclusiveness according to cultural and social environmental characteristics, association area as the place of intermediary nature between public facilities and places which can enhance the sense of closeness by its users and exchange area which can give users the sense of symbolic belonging as the public space by optional and active exchanges by a special motif rather than by direct contact. This study divides the types of common territory used by students and summarizes its users as follows. From the students' side, the common territory used by them is the intermediary area of public areas like playground and gymnasium and the most private area like classroom and it has the types of entrance, arcade connecting central hall and other school buildings, stairs for moving to other classrooms. The frequency of their uses are different depending in the time of use, that is, break, lunch time or after school, but the corridor is most frequently used by students, followed by stairs, entrance, central hall and arcade. It is used mainly for talks or simple play and the sense of public ownership like affection, sense of belonging and exclusiveness and characte-risitcs of close association are shown.

      • 정규식을 이용한 음성인식용 웹페이지 변환시스템

        본 연구에서는 인터넷 환경에서 음성인식기술을 이용하기 위하여 일반 웹페이지를 음성인식이 가능한 웹페이지로 변환하는 시스템을 구현하였다. 이 시스템은 음성 인식용 웹페이지를 사용하고 음성을 녹음하는 웹사이트 사용자와 웹사이트 서버, 음성인식기능을 수행하는 웹서비스로 구성된다. 웹사이트 서버는 웹페이지 변환 시스템과 사용자로부터 수신된 음성신호를 웹서비스를 이용하여 인식하고 인식결과의 웹페이지를 웹사이트 사용자에게 전송하는 기능을 포함하다. 본 연구에서는 정규식을 이용하여 웹페이지 변환 시스템을 구현하였다. 사용자의 음성을 분석하고 인식하는 음성인식기는 기존의 연구에서 구현된 음성인식 웹서비스 제공자를 이용하였다. 실험 결과, 웹페이지에서 태그를 분석하여 웹페이지를 변환하고 하이퍼링크를 추출하는 것을 확인할 수 있다. This paper implemented the conversion system that converts general web page to the web page using the speech recognition technology in the internet. This system has the web site consumer, the web site server and the web service provider that provides speech recognition. The web site server, which has conversion system, recognizes the speech sounds received from the web site consumer through calling the web service and replies the HTML pages to the web site consumer. The conversion system is implemented by using regular expression. The speech recognizer is the web service providers that is implemented in the previous study. As the result of experiment, we show that this system changes web page by analyzing tags and extracts hyperlink.

        계면활성제 함유 인지질 나노입자의 초가변성 연구

        This study was aimed to formulated various phospholipid nanoparticles composed of different surfactants and to evaluate the deformability of the phospholipid vesicles as candidates of useful ultradeformable nanoparticles. In vitro deformability of the hospholipid nanoparticles was studied using an extruder under a certain pressure. The sizes of phospholipid nanoparticles, passed volumes, and concentrations of the phospholipids in suspensions before and after extrusion were measured. The deformability indexes were estimated by using passed volumes, sizes of phospholipid nanoparticles and concentrations of phospholipids. Conventionl liposomes, placed under a certain pressure of an extruder, showed no passed volume indicating little deformability. Similar to conventional liposomes, phospholipid nanoparticles containing surpactants such as sodium taurcholate, Myrj 45, or Myrj 53 showed little deformability. In contrast, phospholipid nanoparticles composed of Tween 20, triton X-100, or sodium deoxycholate showed higher deformability indexes than others. Taken together, the deformability of phospholipid nanoparticles could be significantly affected by the type of surfactants. Moreover, these results suggest that the deformability of phospholipid nanoparticles could be modulated by surfactants.

        수종 불소 함유 수복재의 불소 유리 및 압축 강도에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 새로 개발된 레진 강화형 글래스 아이오노머인 Ketac™ N 100과 Fuji Fil LC의 개선된 접을 보기 위해 불소 유리량과 압축 강도를 Fuii II LC와 비교 평가해 보았다. 불소 유리량 측정을 위해 각 재료 별로 시편을 15개씩 제작하여 탈이온수에 보관하였고,31일 동안 pH/ISE meter(750P,Istek Korea)를 이용하여 불소 유리량을 측정하였다. 압축 강도 측정을 위해 각 재료별로 15개씩 시편을 제작하여 만능 경성 시험기(Kyung-sung Testing Machine Co.,Korea)를 이용하여 시편이 파절된 시점의 최대 강도를 측정하였다. 연구 결과 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 1. 전반적인 불소 유리량은 Fuji Fil LC,Fuji II LC, Ketac™ N 100 순으로 높았다(p<O.O5). 2. 압축 강도는 Fuii II LC와 Ketac™ N 100은 유의한 차이가 없었고(p>0.05),Fuji Fil LC는 두 재료보다 낮은 압축 강도 값을 보였다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과를 종합해보면 Ketac™ N 100은 대조군인 Fuji II LC와 비교 시 불소 유리량은 적었으나 압축 강도는 유사했고 Fuji Fil LC는 불소 유리량은 높았고 압축 강도는 낮았다. 이런 재료의 특성에 맞게 임상 적용을 하는 것이 중요할 것 이다. This study was performed to compare the fluoride release pattern and compressive strength of recently developed resin-modified glass ionomers(Ketac™ N 100 and Fuji Fil LC) with those of conventional glass ionomer restorative material (Fuji II LC). Fifteen sample discs(6 mm diameter and 1mm height) were prepared for each tested material. The fluoride release was measured by pH/ISE meter(750P, Istek, Korea) for 31 days. For compressive strength experiment, fifteen cylindrical specimens were prepared for each tested material. Each specimen was submitted to compressive strength testing in an universal testing machine(Kyung-sung Testing Machine Co., Korea) at crosshead speed of 5.0mm/min until failure. The results can be summarized as follows; 1. Fuji Fil LC released the highest amount of fluoride, followed by Fuji II LC and Ketac™ N 100(p<0.05). 2. The compressive strength of Fuji Fil LC was the 1owest(p<0.05). However, no significant difference was found from Fuji II LC and Ketac™ N 100(p>0.05). By considering the above results, careful case selection and accurate clinical application is recommended when using Ketac™N 100 and Fuji Fil LC.

        복수과 진료 환자의 중복 처방에 대한 분석 및 평가

        In an aging society, there is an increasing possibility of the duplication of the drugs given to patients because they take many kinds of drugs. Among the prescriptions given to the patients who was treated at multiple ambulatory clinics in St. Mary's hospital for one month of September, 2002, in which drugs that has identical or similar effects are prescribed, we analysed and evaluated them by patients' characteristics, kinds of medication, severity of side effects on a case by case basis. More, we assessed the potential additional costs. As a result of this study, the duplication rate turned out to be 6.69% and it was shown that the proportion of the elderly patients over 60 was high. The gastro-intestinal medications took up a large part and most of the cases showed that the danger caused by double taking of medicine was slight, but there were some examples in which the serious side effects were predicted. Expected additional costs were the average 11.349 won and it ranges from the minimum of 56 won to the maximum of 135,720 won. In conclusion, the management of drug histories of the patients who need the plural treatments is very important and the necessity of the individual and professional guidance of taking medicines for the elderly patients is emerged, too.

      • 이공산(異功散)의 in vitro에서 Cisplatin 유도 신장독성의 감소 효과

        In vitro model systems are increasingly used to investigate the mechanism of chemical-induced toxicity and for toxicological screening of new drug families. The effect of Ekongsan on the cytotoxicity induced by cisplatin on human and rabbit kidney cells was evaluated by tetrazolium-dye(MTT) assay. On the basis of Cl_50 value, cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity on human renal cortical cells was increased depend on concentration, whereas Ekongsan alone did not influence Simultaneous administration of cisplatin and Ekongsan, cytotoxicity of cisplain was reduced depend on the concentration of Ekongsan. With primary cultured proximal tubule cells results to reduce the cisplatin induced-cytotoxicity by Ekongsan was comparable to those with renal cortical cells. Based on these results, Ekongsan may has the potency to protect the nephrotoxicity induced by cisplatin.
