Objective: The purpose of this study was to verify the hypothesis, by performing objective measurements, that tonguepressure will have an association with swallowing function in patients with Parkinson’s disease. It was also of interestwhether measures of lingual function were consistent with reports of swallowing related quality of life. Methods: The subjects were 18 patients with Parkinson’s disease. Their tongue pressure was examined by using anIowa oral performance instrument (IOPI). They all underwent video fluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) and theycompleted a Korean swallowing-quality of life questionnaire (K-SWAL-QOL). Tongue pressures were measured in theanterior (MTPa: maximal tongue pressure anterior) and posterior (MTPp: maximal tongue pressure posterior). Thecutoff value of MTP was 34 kPa. Results: The average of tongue pressure was decreased in both anterior (MTPa=27.79±13.44 kPa) and posterior(MTPp=19.20±8.88 kPa), and MTPp of all the subjects was less than 34 kPa. For the MTPa, 11 patients were under34 kPa (abnormal group) and 7 patients were above 34 kPa (normal group). The oral transit time (OTT) of the abnormalMTPa group was significantly delayed more than that of the normal group (P=0.006). On the correlationanalysis, the MTPa and OTT, MTPa and penetration aspiration scale (PAS), MTPp and PAS showed significant negativecorrelations with each other. The MTP and the social, sleep and fatigue subscores of K-SWAL-QOL showedsignificant positive correlations. Conclusion: In patients with Parkinson’s disease, lower tongue pressure was related to delayed oral transit time anda higher aspiration tendency. We expect the clinical usage of the easily measured tongue pressure to predict theswallowing function and help plan the correct treatment.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of a short-term study abroad program on developing students’ intercultural competence, oral proficiency, and the relationship between the two. Participants consisted of 33 American college students studying Korean as a foreign language. Data was drawn from an intercultural competence questionnaire, role play oral assessment, reflective writings, and interviews. The results showed that students made significant improvement in the cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects of perceived intercultural competence. As for the oral proficiency gains, students showed significant improvement in language use but failed to show significant improvement in fluency and pragmatic competence. The results also revealed that an increase in students’ intercultural competence did not predict oral proficiency gains. The study provides pedagogical implications regarding programmatic consideration and specific activity design to improve intercultural competence.
Relationships among Reading Anxiety, Reading Processing, and Reading Comprehension
Jayoung Song 한국외국어교육학회 2018 Foreign languages education Vol.25 No.2
Despite the evidence of an association between foreign language (FL) reading anxiety and reading comprehension, only a few studies have investigated how FL reading anxiety interacts with the reading process. This study examined how people with different anxiety levels approach reading tasks differently; that is, the relationships among foreign language reading anxiety, cognitive interference, reading strategy use, and the effects of these constructs on actual reading comprehension. Participants (N=265) were Korean adolescent EFL learners. From analyses of their responses to FL reading anxiety scale, Cognitive Interference Questionnaire (CIQ), a strategy inventory for reading comprehension, and reading comprehension tasks, results suggested that anxiety played a critical role in the interplay of attention and reading strategy use, which were associated with comprehension. Highly anxious students who were occupied with off-task thoughts tended to use more local reading strategies while less anxious students were more focused on completing the reading tasks and employed more global reading strategies. Results also suggested that the significant predictors of reading comprehension were FL reading anxiety as well as the CIQ and Global strategies, which indicated that the less anxious students who were more focused during reading, and those who employed more Global strategy scored higher in reading comprehension.
리눅스 운영체제하의 OLTP환경에서 RAID 레벨 5의 효율적인 캐쉬 운영 방안에 대한 연구
송자영(Jayoung Song),장태무(Taemu Chang) 한국정보과학회 2000 한국정보과학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.27 No.1A

<P>To realize high thermoelectric performance, it was tried to control both high electrical conductivity (sigma) and low thermal conductivity (K) for the Sn-doped indium-zinc oxide films prepared by DC magnetron sputtering. The highest power factor was obtained post-annealed at 200 degrees C due to the highest s. However, the highest figure of merit was obtained annealed at 500 degrees C. It could be attributed to both amorphous structure with low K by phonon and the highest Hall mobility. Thermoelectric and electrical properties of the film could be controlled by both heat treatment and Sn doping with high bond enthalpy. (C) 2017 The Japan Society of Applied Physics</P>

<P>Alzheimer disease (AD) is sometimes referred to as type III diabetes because of the shared risk factors for the two disorders. Insulin resistance, one of the major components of type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM), is a known risk factor for AD. Insulin resistance increases amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) generation, but the exact mechanism underlying the linkage of insulin resistance to increased Aβ generation in the brain is unknown. In this study, we investigated the effect of insulin resistance on amyloid β (A4) precursor protein (APP) processing in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD), and diabetic <I>db/db</I> mice. We found that insulin resistance promotes Aβ generation in the brain via altered insulin signal transduction, increased BACE1/β-secretase and γ-secretase activities, and accumulation of autophagosomes. Using an in vitro model of insulin resistance, we found that defects in insulin signal transduction affect autophagic flux by inhibiting the mechanistic target of rapamycin (MTOR) pathway. The insulin resistance-induced autophagosome accumulation resulted in alteration of APP processing through enrichment of secretase proteins in autophagosomes. We speculate that the insulin resistance that underlies the pathogenesis of T2DM might alter APP processing through autophagy activation, which might be involved in the pathogenesis of AD. Therefore, we propose that insulin resistance-induced autophagosome accumulation becomes a potential linker between AD and T2DM.</P>

Han, Kiwon,Jung, Kikyung,Oh, Hokyung,Song, Hojin,Park, Sangmi,Kim, Ji-Hye,Min, Garam,Lee, Byung-Hwa,Nam, Hyun-sik,Kim, Yang Jin,Ato, Manabu,Jeong, Jayoung,Ahn, Chiyoung Korean Society of ToxicologyKorea Environmental Mu 2018 Toxicological Research Vol.34 No.3
In 2015, a candidate for the second national reference standard (NRS) of Gloydius snake venom was produced to replace the first NRS of Gloydius snake venom. In the present study, the potencies of the candidate were determined by a collaborative study, and the qualification of the candidate was estimated. The potencies of the candidate were determined by measuring the murine lethal titers and lapine hemorrhagic titers of venom against the regional working reference standard (RWRS) for antivenom using the methods described in the previous report for the first NRS of Gloydius snake venom. Three Korean facilities contributed data from a total of 30 independent assays. Subsequently, two foreign national control research laboratories contributed to this collaborative study. The results were calculated using the Reed-Muench method for lethality and determined using a mixed-effects model for hemorrhage. The general common potencies of the lethal and hemorrhagic titers were obtained from the results of the 30 tests performed at three Korean facilities. The results are expressed in micrograms for 1 test dose (TD) with a 95% confidence interval as follows: a lethal titer of $90.13{\mu}g/TD$ (95% confidence interval = $87.39{\sim}92.86{\mu}g$) and a hemorrhagic titer of $10.80{\mu}g/TD$ (95% confidence interval = $10.46{\sim}11.14{\mu}g$). In addition, the candidate preparation showed good quality evaluation according to the results of the quality estimation of the candidate and is judged to be suitable to serve as the Korean NRS for snake venom. In conclusion, the second NRS of Gloydius snake venom was established in this study and will be used for national quality control, including a national lot release test of Korean antivenom products.
