A MEASURE ZERO STABILITY OF A FUNCTIONAL EQUATION ASSOCIATED WITH INNER PRODUCT SPACE
Chun, Jaeyoung,Rassias, John Michael Korean Mathematical Society 2017 대한수학회지 Vol.54 No.2
Let X, Y be real normed vector spaces. We exhibit all the solutions $f:X{\rightarrow}Y$ of the functional equation f(rx + sy) + rsf(x - y) = rf(x) + sf(y) for all $x,y{\in}X$, where r, s are nonzero real numbers satisfying r + s = 1. In particular, if Y is a Banach space, we investigate the Hyers-Ulam stability problem of the equation. We also investigate the Hyers-Ulam stability problem on a restricted domain of the following form ${\Omega}{\cap}\{(x,y){\in}X^2:{\parallel}x{\parallel}+{\parallel}y{\parallel}{\geq}d\}$, where ${\Omega}$ is a rotation of $H{\times}H{\subset}X^2$ and $H^c$ is of the first category. As a consequence, we obtain a measure zero Hyers-Ulam stability of the above equation when $f:\mathbb{R}{\rightarrow}Y$.

Background/Aims: Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) are at high risk for cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation. The useful-ness of the CMV antigenemia assay in active UC patients has rarely been studied. We assessed whether the assay detects CMV colitis and predicts clinical outcomes in patients with UC. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of pa-tients hospitalized for moderate-to-severe UC from 2003 to 2012. Positive CMV antigenemia was defined as ≥1 pp65-positive cell per 2×105 polymorphonuclear neutrophils. CMV colitis was defined as the presence of inclusion bodies and/or positive im-munohistochemistry in the colonic mucosa. The primary outcome was steroid refractoriness, defined as the absence of clinical improvement after intravenous high-dose steroid administration. Results: A total of 43 patients were enrolled. CMV antigen-emia was detected in 12 (27.9%) patients. Positive CMV antigenemia was significantly associated with CMV colitis (P=0.001). The sensitivity and specificity of positive CMV antigenemia for diagnosing CMV colitis were 66.7% and 87.1%, respectively. Steroid refractoriness was found in 11 of 12 (91.7%) and 12 of 31 (38.7%) patients with positive and negative CMV antigenemia, respectively (P=0.002). The independent predictors for steroid refractoriness were positive CMV antigenemia (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 7.73; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22-49.19; P=0.030) and a shorter duration from the diagnosis of UC (adjusted OR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.98-0.99; P=0.025). Conclusions: The CMV antigenemia assay shows low sensitivity but high specificity for detecting CMV colitis and may predict steroid-refractory UC. Early rescue therapy might be considered in UC patients positive for CMV antigenemia. (Intest Res 2015;13:50-59)

Background/Aims: The disease course and factors associated with poor prognosis in Korean patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) have not been fully determined. The aim of this study was to explore potential associations between the clinical characteristics and long-term outcomes of CD and perianal fistulas in a Korean population. Methods: The retrospective Crohn’s Disease Clinical Network and Cohort (CONNECT) study enrolled patients diagnosed with CD between July 1982 and December 2008 from 32 hospitals. Those followed for <12 months were excluded. Clinical outcomes were CD-related surgery and complications, including nonperianal fistulas, strictures, and intra-abdominal abscesses. Results: The mean follow-up period was 8.77 years (range, 1.0 to 25.8 years). A total of 1,193 CD patients were enrolled, of whom 465 (39.0%) experienced perianal fistulas. Perianal fistulizing CD was significantly associated with younger age, male gender, CD diagnosed at primary care clinics, and ileocolonic involvement. Both nonperianal fistulas (p=0.034) and intra-abdominal abscesses (p=0.020) were significantly more common in CD patients with perianal fistulas than in those without perianal fistulas. The rates of complicated strictures and CD-related surgery were similar between the groups. Independently associated factors of nonperianal fistulas were perianal fistulas (p=0.015), female gender (p=0.048), CD diagnosed at referral hospital (p=0.003), and upper gastrointestinal (UGI) involvement (p=0.001). Furthermore, perianal fistulas (p=0.048) and UGI involvement (p=0.012) were independently associated with the risk of intra-abdominal abscesses. Conclusions: Perianal fistulas predicted the development of nonperianal fistulas and intra-abdominal abscesses in Korean CD patients. Therefore, patients with perianal fistulizing CD should be carefully monitored for complicated fistulas or abscesses. (Gut Liver 2018;12:544-554)
Delftia acidovorans Isolated from the Drainage in an Immunocompetent Patient with Empyema
Chun, Jaeyoung,Lee, Jaechun,Bae, Jaeseok,Kim, Miyeon,Lee, Jae-Geun,Shin, Sang-Yop,Kim, Young Ree,Lee, Keun-Hwa The Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory 2009 Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Vol.67 No.3
Delftia acidovorans is a gram-negative motile rod found ubiquitously in soil and in water. Confirmed isolation from clinical infections is rare, and has been documented mostly in immunocompromised patients or those with indwelling catheters. A 53-year-old man was referred for the evaluation of a huge mass-like lesion found incidentally by chest X-ray. The lesion occupied more than half of the right lung and was diagnosed as a large loculated pleural effusion by CT scan. Bloody pus was drained through a percutaneous catheter, and D. acidovorans, identified by the Vitek GN card and confirmed by amplification of 16S ribosomal RNA and sequencing analysis, was isolated repeatedly from the drained pus. The patient was treated with imipenem/cilastatin to which the organism was sensitive. This is a rare report of chronic empyema associated with D. acidovorans in the respiratory system of an immunocompetent patient.

The most effective way to control plant parasitic nematodes are immersed in hot water, but the larger-scale processing is difficult to adjust a target processing temperature. Thermal equilibrium formula used to fit the processing temperature was very accurate and effective. Use of the thermal equilibrium formula was determined to be well suited on commercial scale(1400L volume chamber) hot water immersion treatment that should be quickly processed. 1000L of water based on 10%(111kg), 12%(136kg), 15%(176kg) filling ratio was applied in 48oC for 30min treatment and only 10%, 12% filling ratio was applied in 49oC for 10min. In 10% filling ratio, thermal equilibrium has been proceeding rapidly in 1-2 min, and no juvenile hatched in all treatments(at 48oC for 30min, at 49oC for 10min). In 12% filling ratio, though thermal equilibrium has been proceeding in 2 min, few juveniles were hatched in boundary temperature at 49.0oC. In 15% filling ratio, it took 7-8 minutes to reach thermal equilibrium after dipping. The result of applying the two treatment conditions(at 48oC for 30min, at 49oC for 10min) to commercial scale field experiment showed nematodes were almost completely eliminated in hooker chive roots. However, some of living nematodes were observed in 15% filling ratio treatment.

Electrolysis techniques(electrokinetic) generally have been used mainly to remove the inorganic salts like Cu, Pb etc. in the soil. In the organic living, the effects of electrolysis has a direct impact on survival by dissociation of the ions inside the cell and accumulation of energy within cells. In this study, It was evaluated for susceptibility to nematodes(Meloidgyne javanica, Pratylenchus coffeae) in accordance with the voltage, current and electrolyte concentration. Using the electrolytic bath and electrolyte material(TAE buffer, Nacl), the susceptibility of nematodes was evaluated in the range of 30 ~ 60V, 0.02 ~ 0.77A. Unusually, the high voltage and amperage did not increase the death rate of nematodes and the most resistant stage was not clear because sensitivity of each stage could not be distinguished. In 30V 0.52A, 0.70A, 0.72A, M. javanica eggs processed for 10 minutes did not hatch at all. In 30V 0.58A, M. javanica juveniles processed for 5 minutes were showed 100% mortality and in 30V 0.77A, P. coffeae juveniles processed for 5 minutes were showed highest sensitivity compared to other treatment range.
