        혼종문화 속의 수행적 주체로서 수키 김과 창래 리

        This study tries to view Korean American novelists in the perspective of hybrid culture. Korean English literature scholars tended to concentrate on the problems of Korean immigrants` exclusion and alienation by main stream American society or the problem of their identity through Korean American novels. However, the perspectives that scrutinize into problems of domination/assimilation or of identity in Korean American novel is being doubted through the complex reality of hybrid culture. The perspective of hybridity required in the fast changing modern times questions positions that consider identity as being fixed or pure. The perspective of hybridity is an effort to explain the Korean American novels` complexity which is difficult for clear ethical evaluations to do within the opposition of resistance/ assimilation. This study evaluates Suki Kim and Chang-rae Lee as the representative Korean American novelists who intensely face with the ongoing American hybrid society. This study examines how the two novelists look upon the ethnic minorities` and racial problems differently from general ethnic writers and achieve significant narrative developments. Examining The Interpreter and her articles in American newspapers and magazines, we see how aspects of Suki Kim`s performative subject can be characterized as ``addressing to the American mainstream society as a immigrant.`` Chang-rae Lee has transcended the title of Korean American novelist and already established as a prominent modern American novelist. Aspects of Chang-rae Lee`s performative subject is exhibited in how he is striving in the difficult search for mutual understanding within the hybrid culture through Native Speaker and Aloft. This study also deals with the self consciousness and ethical demands of Suki Kim and Chang-rae Lee who rely on Korea and the life of the Korean immigrant as their asset.

      • An Investigation on the Life of Master Won Guk Lee, the Creator of Chung-Do-Kwan

        The purpose of this study is to review (or, investigate) the life of Won Guk Lee. He is the creator of Chung-Do-Kwan, which is one of the five original Taekwondo kwans. Data was gathered from advanced research, newspapers, documentaries, the Internet, magazines, and journals etc. Thus, we were able to create a sequence of events based on the research data. First, we can say that in Won Guk Lee``s career, he created Chung-Do-Kwan and brought Dangsoodo to Korea. These events have had a significant development on Taekwondo. Second, Taekwondo curriculum, which was published by Won Guk Lee, established the foundation of Taekwondo poomsae, as well as giving us the pure spirit of Korean martial arts.

        The objective of this study was to investigate clinical manifestations of lower extremity edema (LEE) in endometrial cancer Medical records for LEE and/or responses to the Gynecologic Cancer Lymphedema Questionnaire (GCLQ) were evaluated in 177 patients with endometrial cancer Patients had a median age of 53 years. Sixty-seven patients (37.9%) had past (9 patients, 13.4%) and/or current patient-reported LEE (58 patients, 86.6%). Symptoms reported on the GCLQ in over 20% of respondents were swelling, numbness, aching , and heaviness. GCLQ total symptoms score was significantly higher in patients with current LEE. Most of the LEE (43/67, 64.2%) developed within 12 months after surgery and LEE lasted more than 6 months in most patients (56/59, 94.9%) Prospective clinical trials are needed to know the clinical significance, impact on quality of life, and preventive strategy of LEE in patients with endometrial cancer

        『국문보감(國文寶鑑)』(1910) 연구

        『국문보감』은 융희 4년(1910년) 2월 15일 인쇄하여, 2월 25일 수문서관(修文書舘)에서 발행했다. 박영진(朴永鎭)이 편집하고, 이윤종(李胤鍾)이 교열을 담당했고, 이능구(李能九)가 서문을 쓴 도서이다. 『국문보감』에 대한 본격적인 연구 결과가 제출되지 않고 있다는 점에서 본 연구의 필요성을 찾을 수 있다. 선행 연구에서 『국문보감』과 박영진을 짧게라도 언급한 경우는 『요지경』 관련 연구에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 편집자 박영진이 쓴 「국문의 기원」과 『대한매일신보』, 『해조신문』 등에 발표한 가사 등을 분석하여 그의 국문 인식을 검토하였다. 서문을 쓴 이능구는 국문(國文)의 중요성에 대해 언급하면서, 한문을 숭상하는 태도를 비판하고 있다. 1890년대 이후 신문, 잡지에 실린 국문론의 맥락에서 「국문의 기원」 및 「국문보감 서문」을 살펴보았고, 「국문간독」과 ‘편지투’의 한글 표기를 검토하기 위해 『언문간독』을 참조하였다. 『국문보감』의 집필 목표는 생활에 요긴한 다양한 정보들을 취사선택하여 제시하는 데 있었다. 편집자 박영진은 한문을 국문으로 번역하는 과정을 거쳤음을 분명히 하고 있다. 국문의 장점과 효용성에 대한 논의를 국한문혼용체를 활용하여 저술한 당대의 여러 사례와 달리 『국문보감』은 일관되게 국문으로 표기한다는 원칙을 고수하였다. 이 책을 ‘국문으로 지은 보배’라고 비유한 데서 확인할 수 있듯 국문이야말로 보배라는 인식을 드러내고 있을 뿐 아니라, 그 인식을 실현하는 방법으로 국문을 선택한 것이다. 국문 글쓰기의 본보기를 만들고자 했던 편집자의 의도가 표기 방식을 통해 드러났다는 점을 이 책의 의의라 할 수 있을 것이다. Gukmunbogam was printed on February 15, in the 4th year of Yoonghee (1910), and was published on February 25 by Sumunseogwan (修文書舘). It is a book edited by Young-jin Park, proofread by Yun-jong Lee, and prologized by Neung-gu Lee. The necessity of studies on Gukmunbogam can be found in the fact that no result of any full-fledged study on Gukmunbogam has been submitted. Among previous studies, cases where Gukmunbogam and Young-jin Park were mentioned even briefly can be found in studies regarding Yojikyung. In this paper, first, the nature of this book will be investigated in the context of ‘Korean literature’ theories. As can be seen in ‘The Preface of Gukmunbogam’ and ‘The Origin of Korean Language’, Neung-gu Lee, who wrote the preface, and editor Young-jin Park are criticizing the attitude to revere ‘Chinese characters’ while mentioning the importance of Korean literature. The characteristics of this book were examined by comparing and contrasting this book with articles related to “Korean literature” published in newspapers and magazines since the 1890s. Thereafter, in relation to the composition of this book, this book was compared with books that fall under ‘exemplars.’ The purpose of writing this book was to select a variety of information essentially important for life. In addition, this book makes it clear that it has gone through the process of “translating” the information. Through such a review process, the nature and characteristics of the ‘Korean literature’ theory of Gukmunbogam, and the nature of this book as a book that falls under ‘exemplars’ were identified and what status this book shows between the ‘Korean literature’ theory in 1910 and books that fall under ‘exemplars’ written thereafter could be determined.

        혼종화 시대의 인종화 프로세스-이창래의 『비상』을 중심으로

        The macro structural perspective of how race was formed nationally, politically, and socially has greatly contributed in revealing the ills of racialism until now, likewise, the dichotomous form of Asian-American literature corresponding to such perspective has made great contribution in awakening people`s awareness of race. While acknowledging the contribution of such macro perspectives, we must take note that today`s racialism is becoming materialized in different aspects. The tendency of present racial formation is that the recognition of race is spread out lightly but widely in everyday lives and is revealed through the perception of our body. While publicly stating that society is color-blind and inequality significantly resolved, racialism emerges in the personal and everyday aspects. Not erased but diluted and spread out more widely, and the more diluted, harder to erase, racialism has penetrated into the perception of our lives. Racialism works not as a conspicuous discrimination but as a common sense that is ``naturally`` absorbed into our perception and perspective. Chang Rae Lee`s Aloft shows the process of such racial formation in our age of hybridization. This study tries to clarify why present racial formation must be analyzed in the macro perceptual perspective and show how the racial perception in the narrative of the white dominant narrator, Jerry, becomes the field where he lives and how it is spread through his perception. Through the theories of Judith Butler and Linda M. Alcoff, this study analyzes how people are got to self-identification with the racialization through reiteration and what the relationship is between racial formation and the subject`s performativity in Aloft. The study concludes that revealing such current processes of racial formation perceptively is not thinking it ``natural`` and inevitable but the process of bringing about a change in it.

        회당(晦堂) 윤응선(尹膺善)의 「독이제십변(讀夷齊十辨)」과 「이제후변(夷齊後辨)」 일고

        晦堂 尹膺善은 明의 王直이 지은 「夷齊十辨」을 바탕으로 「讀夷齊十辨」과 「夷齊後辨」을 지었다. 「독이제십변」에서 회당은 왕직의 「이제십변」에서 사마천의 『사기』 「백이열전」 오류를 지적한 것은 일정한 의미를 지니지만 백이숙제가 ‘말고삐를 잡고 간한 것’과 ‘수양산에서 굶어 죽은 것’ 등에 대한 비판은 주자가 이미 확정한 논의에서 벗어나는 것으로 파악하고 조목조목 비판하였다. 본고는 회당이 이렇게 왕직을 비판한 것은 주자가 확정한 도는 바뀔 수 없는 정도라는 인식이 바탕에 있었기 때문으로 파악하였다. 또한 회당은 「이제후변」에서 백이숙제의 죽음은 순국으로 두 임금을 섬기지 않는다는 법을 세웠다는 점에서 평가를 하였고 의당의 자정은 정도 수호를 위한 순도라고 하였는데 본고는 회당의 이러한 평가를 통해 회당이 백이숙제의 죽음보다 의당의 자정에 더 숭고한 가치를 부여한 것으로 파악하였다. 결론적으로 회당의 「독이제십변」은 주자가 확정한 정론에 왕직이 이의를 제기한 것에 대한 비판이고, 「이제후변」은 의당의 자정에 대한 가치를 부여한 것으로 이는 주자가 정립한 성리학을 정도로 보고 이를 지키고자 한 위정 척사의 사상과 밀접한 관련이 있다. Hoidang Yun Eung-seon wrote “Dokyijesipbyeon” and “Yijehubyeon” based on “Yiijesipbyeon” written by wáng zhí in Ming. In “Dokyijesipbyeon”, Hoidang has a certain meaning that wáng zhí's “Yijesipbyeon” points out the errors of “Baekyiyeoljeon” of SimaQian's “Shiji”, but Baekyisukje's criticisms of “Holding the reins and reporting” and “Hungered in Mountain Shouyang” were found to be out of the discussions that Zhu Xi had already concluded, and criticized clause by clause. In this paper, it is found that the fact that Hoidang criticized wáng zhí is because it was based on the recognition that Zhu Xi determined it as a right path that cannot be changed. Hoidang also assessed in “Yijehubyeon” that Baekyisukje's death as martyrdom with which a law was established that two kings wouldn’t be served. Jajeong of Uidang said that it is a pure path for protecting a right path, and this paper identified Hoidang's evaluation as giving Hoidang more sublime value to Ujeong's Jajeong than Baekyisukje's death. In conclusion, Hoidang's “Dokyijesipbyeon” is a criticism of wáng zhí's objection to orthodox as confirmed by Zhu Xi, and “Yijehubyeon” gave Uidang's value to Jajeong, which is closely related to the Movement to Reject Heterodoxy's thought of seeing Zhu Xi's Sung Confucianism as the right path and protecting it.

        조선 독서인(讀書人)의 상우론(尙友論)-「상우부(尙友賦)」와 「상우오찬(尙友五贊)」을 중심으로-

        맹자가 상우에 대하여 언급한 이래로 많은 문인들이 상우에 관하여 언급하였다. 이들의 관점은 명분이 같지 않고 사업이 서로 다르더라도 정신적으로 사모하고 벗하여 그와 같아지기 위해 노력하고자 한 점에서 긍정적인 의미를 지닐 수 있다. 이와 관련하여 본고는 윤선도의 「상우부」와 신최의 「상우오찬」을 살펴보았다. 윤선도는 자신이 상우의 대상으로 삼은 인물들을 본받기 위한 전제 조건으로 선비는 반드시 그 뜻을 높이하고 학문을 크게 해야 한다고 하여 상우의 의미를 자신의 수양에 두었다. 신최는 상우를 자신의 부족한 점을 채워 자아의 완성을 돕는 측면에서 접근하였다. 이들은 모두 상우의 대상에 걸맞을 수 있도록 노력을 경주할 수 있는 동력을 상우에서 찾았다고 할 것이다. 그러나 상우는 현세와 어긋나고 삶이 순탄하지 않으면 현세에 대한 불만을 야기할 수 있고 고상한 정조를 숭상하여 옛사람에게 벗한다는 것을 구실로 삼아 염세적인 경향으로 흐를 수도 있으며 정신적인 결합을 강조한 나머지 현세에서의 벗을 부정하는 결과를 가져올 수 있는 위험성도 지니고 있다고 할 것이다. Since Mencius mentioned Sangwu (尙友), many writers have mentioned about Sangwu. Their point of view could be positive in that they did not have the same cause and were different from each other in their business, but they yearned and were mentally dedicated to try to be similar. In this regard, this study examined Yun Seon-do`s “Sangwu-bu” and Shinchoe`s “Sangwuochan.” Yun Seon-do put Sangwu`s meaning in his self--discipline as a pre-requisite to imitate the characters that he had set as the object of Sangwu, and that scholars must heighten its meaning and enlarge its scholarship. Shinchoe approached Sangwu in terms of helping one complete one`s self-sufficiency. It is said that all of them found the power in Sangwu to make an effort to match Sangwu`s object. However, Sangwu can be dissatisfied with the current world if life is out of line and not smooth, and it may flow into a pessimistic tendency as an excuse to take up the noble elegance and to make friends with the old people. It is also said that it emphasizes the spiritual union so much that it carries the risk of denying the friends in the current world.

        논문 : 북풍회원(北風會員)이 바라본 관동대진재(關東大震災) 정우홍의「진재전후(震災前後)」를 중심으로

        이번에 발굴된「진재전후」는 관동대진재를 직접 경험한 사회주의자 정우홍이 8년이 지난 1931년에 쓴 소설이다. 해방 이후에 쓰인 이기영의「두만강」을 제외하고 사실상 진재 관련 소설이 없는 상황에서 전문작가는 아니지만 실제로 경험한 인물이 쓴 식민지기 소설이라 할 수 있다. 사회주의운동을 활발히 한 인물이기 때문에 사회주의운동사의 관점에서도 그 의의를 확보하고 있다. 이 작품은 1923년 1월에서 10월까지 일본 동경과 그 외곽지역을 배경으로 하고 있다. ‘동경 진입 전, 후, 진재기, 유치장기’로 전개된 이 작품은 사회주의운동가의 입장에서 르포르타주 기법으로 쓰여 사실성을 높이고 있다. 이 작품 초반부 (동경 진입 전후)의 빼어난 점은 재일조선인노동자의 열악한 노동현장을 재현하는 핍진성과, 초기 노동조직의 형성과정을 상세하게 형상화하고 있다. 후반부(진재기, 유치장기)는 관동대진재 장면과 흥분하는 일본인의 모습, 그리고 유치장에 수감되는 조선인의 내면성을 구현하고 있다. 그런데 전반부와 달리 후반부는 르포르타주의 사실성이 낮아지고 등장인물의 사적 내면의 기록이 증가한다. 노동투쟁과 관동대진재의 재현에 수반하는 검열을 의식한 서사의 특성을 짐작할 수도 있겠다. 이동성과 활동성의 요소로 해석해보면 점점 사회주의자의 이동성과 활동성이 줄어들고 일본경찰이 출몰하며 종국에는 감옥으로 협소화되면서 작품 말미에는 정치색이 거의 사라지고 있다. 유치장을 직접 경험한 정우홍이 드러낸 서사적 무의식과 식민지 무의식의 연관성을 짐작할 수 있게 한다.
