As Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) technology can handle, manager and protect data within a small sized chip, peopled are more interested in USIM technology lately. Java Card Virtual Machine (JCVM) enables programs written by Java programming language to be run in smart cards with USIM chips. However JCVM does not have a verifier as limits of hardware. In this paper, we propose a ByteCode verifier with novel algorithm based on Static Check policy. We experiment that the size of our verifier is reduced by 90% over generals.

Determination of significant associations between gene expression and predefined endpoints might improve treatment tailoring for advanced gastric cancer. We investigated the mRNA expression of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) pathway genes in prechemotherapeutic tumor samples of primary gastric cancer to try to predict the treatment outcome of S-1 monotherapy. 5-FU pathway genes, dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD), orotate phosphoribosyltransferase (OPRT), thymidylate synthase (TS), and thymidine phosphorylase (TP), were analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR of RNA extracted from archived formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues. We selected the median value for each gene as a cutoff to separate patients into high and low gene expression groups. High OPRT gene expression was significantly associated with tumor response (P=0.014). In a combined analysis including OPRT, patients with high OPRT and TP showed a higher overall response rate than did the remaining patients (40 vs. 10%, respectively; P=0.002). For survival, patients with high OPRT and low TS levels showed prolonged survival in both progression-free survival (3.4 vs. 2.4 months, P=0.024) and overall survival (11.0 vs. 8.2 months, P=0.007). In a multivariate analysis, the combinations of OPRT and TP for response and OPRT and TS for both progression-free survival and overall survival were independent variables. To conclude, mRNA expression levels of molecular markers in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded specimens of primary gastric tumors can be useful for identifying patients with advanced gastric cancer who would most likely benefit from S-1 treatment.

<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>In this study, we compared the pharmacokinetic profiles of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), tegafur, 5-chloro-2,4-dihydroxypyridine (CDHP) and potassium oxonate (Oxo) after administration of S-1 at 35 or 40 mg/m2 bid for 28 consecutive days, in Cycles 1 and 3, in patients with advanced gastric cancer.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Three patients were enrolled for each dosage. S-1 dosage was assigned based on body surface area (BSA), which is different from the Japanese dosing system. The median daily dose per BSA was 76 mg/m2, ranging from 70 to 88 mg/m2.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Plasma levels of 5-FU, tegafur, CDHP and Oxo at 4 h post-dose reached steady-state on day 8. The estimated steady-state level was dependent on S-1 dosage. There were no intercyclic differences of pre-dose and 4 h post-dose levels between Cycles 1 and 3, implying no cumulative effect of S-1 was shown probably due to 2-week drug-resting period. Pharmacokinetic profiles on day 28 were similar to previous Japanese report. <I>C</I>max and AUC0–48 h values of each S-1 component increased depending on S-1 dosage. Pharmacokinetic parameters were not correlated with tumor response or toxicity.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>We suggest that these pharmacokinetic profiles of Asian population could provide a basis for schedule optimization and for additional studies on interaction with other antitumor drugs.</P>

목적: Endometriosis is known to be related to a defect in NK cell cytolytic activity. Additionally, the levels of inflammatory cytokines are elevated in the PF of women with endometriosis. Is the decreased natural killer (NK) cell cytolytic activity in the peritoneal fluid (PF) of endometriosis patients due to primary cytokine activity? 방법: The effects of PF on the differentiation and functional activity of NK cells were investigated in patients with or without endometriosis, and cytokines that reduce NK cell cytolytic activity in endometriosis patients were examined. The study included women who underwent laparoscopic examination for the diagnosis of endometriosis from August 2012 to July 2013 and (33 women with, and 15 women without, endometriosis). Women of reproductive age (20 to 40 years old) who underwent laparoscopic examination for endometriosis were included. Cytokines present in the PF were identified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The cytolytic activity of NK cells in the PF was also analyzed using a calcein-AM release assay. 결과: PF from patients with endometriosis suppressed the differentiation and cytotoxicity of NK cells compared with PF from controls (p<0.05). Increased levels of IL-6 were also found in the PF of patients with endometriosis (p<0.01), and IL-6 levels were negatively correlated with the cytolytic activity of NK cells (rs = -0.558, p=0.03). Furthermore, IL-6 reduced the cytolytic activity of NK cells, concomitantly with the downregulation of granzyme B and perforin (p<0.05), by modulating SHP-2. Importantly, the addition of anti-IL-6 to the PF of endometriosis patients restored the activity of NK cells (p<0.01), suggesting that IL-6 plays a crucial role in the reduction of NK cell activity in the PF of patients with endometriosis. 결론: An increased level of interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the PF of patients with endometriosis suppresses NK cell cytolytic activity by downregulating cytolytic granule components, such as granzyme B and perforin, through the modulation of Src homology region 2-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase-2 (SHP-2) expression. Our results imply that the suppression of IL-6 using an anti-IL-6 antibody or soluble IL-6 receptor could rescue the impairment of NK cell activity in patients with endometriosis.
