        The immature teratoma is the third most commin germ cell tumor of the ovary. It contains a variable amount of immature tissue derived from the three germ cell layers-ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Most commonly the immature elements are neural origin. With the usage of chemotherapy following appropriate surgery, prognosis for patient with malignant germ cell tumor was improved considerably. We had experienced a case of immature teratoma of ovary. We report the case with review of the concerned literatures.

      • 발파진동 제어에 의한 특수구간 터널굴착에 관한 연구

        It was difficult to apply conventional excavation methods in some sections from Seoul to Pusan high speed rail road construction of 1 lot 2, due to highway concrete road. gas pipe, water pipe and nearby factories with automatic control system machine. To excavate safely and efficiently in these sections new blast patterns were employed within allowable blast vibration level, by test blast and controlled vibration by sequential blast. Behaviors of the rock mass including convergence and displacement around tunnel were measured with construction works and the crack width in concrete wall also monitored for controlling allowable limits. The results can be summarized as follow : 1. The allowable blast vibration level in structure site is less 1.0cm/sec for highway concrete, 0.5 cm/sec for gas pipe, water pipe and building housing and 0.3 cm/sec for automatic control system machine. 2. The convergence displacement, sing rod extensometer and multi rod extensometer around tunnel and cracks in concrete wall were measured, it was confirmed that the measured values were converged within allowable level. 3. The empirical formular of ground vibrations with 90% confidence lines for PD-3 was given as follow. V_90%=45.549(??)^-1.353

        초기 성공적인 심폐소생술후 혈청 Interleukin-6 농도의 발현양상

        Objective : To investgate patterns of serial serum interleukin-6(IL-6) concentrations after initial successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and to access differences in serum IL-6 concentrations in patients with Cerebral Performance Category(CPC, 1-2) and CPC(3-5) at the 5th day after cardiacpulmonary resuscitation(CPR). Methods : We studied prospectively 12 patients with spontaneous circulation after cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Venous blood samples were taken 2, 4, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours after restoration of spontaneous circulation to measure serum IL-6 levels by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results : Serum IL-6 concentrations in the severe neurolgically disabled group(CPC, 3-5) were significantly increased at 2, 24 and 48 hours after restoration of spontaneous circulation compared with the less neurolgically disabled group. Also, serum IL-6 concentrations in the severe neurolgic disabled group showed dual peak at 4 and 24 hours. Conclusion : Our study demonstrates significant increase of serum IL-6 in patients with CPC(3-5) after successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the significant correlation between early increase of serum IL-6 and poor neurologic outcome. It suggests that early increase of serum IL-6 can be used as a prognostic marker after successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

        Effect of abdominal binder after laparoscopic cholecystectomy on enhanced recovery: a randomized controlled trial

        Purpose: The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to compare the effects of abdominal binder after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: From August to December 2020, 66 patients who were set to undergo cholecystectomy were selected for a prospective trial at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Seoul, Republic of Korea, and their clinical characteristics and postoperative surgical outcomes were evaluated. Among 66 patients, 33 patients belong to the abdominal binder group and the other 33 patients belong to the control group. Results: The average hospital stay was 2.46 ± 1.29 days, and was not significantly different between the two groups. The average postoperative pain score (visual analogue scale, 0–10) 12, 24, and 48 hours after surgery were not significantly different. However, the degree of comfort score was significantly higher for the control group patients (2.56 vs. 3.33, p < 0.001). Time to the first ambulation, walking ability, return of bowel function, time to full diet resumption, and the numbers of analgesics and antiemetics administered were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: No postoperative recovery benefit and no reduction in hospital stay was found in patients who used an abdominal binder while undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Statistically, between the group that used the binder and the one that did not, no significant differences in surgical outcome nor postoperative outcome were observed. The only exception was that the degree of comfort score was significantly higher in the control group. Therefore, in terms of patient benefit and convenience, wearing an abdominal binder after laparoscopic cholecystectomy is not recommended.

        Ectopic Growth Hormone-Secreting Pituitary Adenoma of the Clivus

        Ectopic pituitary adenoma, occurring outside the sella turcica without any continuity with intrasellar pituitary gland is very rare. So far, less than 90 such cases have been reported in the literature. Regarding to ectopic locations, suprasellar region, sphenoid sinus and clivus have been reported in decending order of frequency. To our best knowledge, growth hormone-secreting ectopic pituitary adenoma in the clivus has never been reported. With the pertinent literature review, we present our unique case with its characteristic magnetic resonance imaging and immunohistochemical features.

        Performance Analysis of DPSK Optical Communication for LEO-to-Ground Relay Link Via a GEO Satellite

        Satellite optical communication has gained significant attention owing to its many quality features (e.g., a larger bandwidth, license free spectrum, higher data rate, and better security) compared to satellite microwave communication. Various experiments have been performed during many space missions to demonstrate and characterize inter-satellite links, downlinks, and uplinks. Korea has also planned to establish an experimental communication system using a geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite and the Geochang station as an optical ground station for low Earth orbit (LEO)-to-ground optical relay links. In this study, the performance of inter-satellite communication links and downlinks was investigated for the new Korean experimental communication system in terms of link margin, bit error rate (BER), and channel capacity. In particular, the performance of the inter-satellite links was analyzed based on the receiving apertures and the transmitting power, while that of the downlink was analyzed in terms of atmospheric turbulence conditions and transmitting power. Finally, we discussed two system parameters of receiving aperture and transmitting power to meet the three criteria of link margin, BER, and channel capacity.

        Evaluation of a Laser Altimeter using the Pseudo-Random Noise Modulation Technique for Apophis Mission

        Apophis is a near-Earth object with a diameter of approximately 340 m, which will come closer to the Earth than a geostationary orbit in 2029, offering a unique opportunity for characterizing the object during the upcoming encounter. Therefore, Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute has a plan to propose a space mission to explore the Apophis asteroid using scientific instruments such as a laser altimeter. In this study, we evaluate the performance metrics of a laser altimeter using a pseudorandom noise modulation technique for the Apophis mission, in terms of detection probability and ranging accuracy. The closed-form expression of detection probability is provided using the cross correlation between the received pulse trains and pseudo-random binary sequence. And the new ranging accuracy model using Gaussian error propagation is also derived by considering the sampling rate. The operation range is significantly limited by thermal noise rather than background noise, owing to not only the low power laser but also the avalanche photodiode in the analog mode operation. However, it is demonstrated from the numerical simulation that the laser altimeter can achieve the ranging performance required for a proximity operation mode, which employs commercially available components onboard CubeSat-scale satellites for optical communications.

        Expression of the ED3 Antigen and its Upregulation after Cyclophosphamide Treatment on Basal Epithelial Cells of Rat Stratified Squamous Epithelium

        Sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectin (Siglec)은 sialic acid와 결합하며 주로 혈구형성계의 세포 및 일부 백혈구에서 발현된다. Sialoadhesin (Siglec-1)은 일부 큰포식세포 아형에서 제한적으로 발현되며 탄수화물 말단에 위치하는 sialic acid 잔기를 인식하기 때문에 selectin과 같이 sialic acid를 함유하는 구조를 가진 분자와 특이적으로 결합한다. Sialoadhesin은 생쥐 및 흰쥐의 림프기관에 위치하는 큰포식세포 일부 아형에서 발현되며, 이는 흰쥐에서 ED3 단클론항체와 특이적으로 결합한다는 사실이 밝혀졌다. 본 연구에서는 흰쥐의 중층편평상피에서 ED3 항원 즉, sialoadhesin의 발현 특성과 잠재적인 기능을 분석하고자, 흰쥐에 cyclophosphamide (150 mg/kg)을 투여한 다음 1일, 3일, 1주, 2주 및 4주 후에 혀, 식도 및 피부를 절취하여 ED3 항체를 이용한 면역조직화학적 염색을 실시하였다. 본 연구 결과 정상 흰쥐의 혀, 식도 및 피부의 중층편평상피의 기저세포들이 sialoadhesion을 발현함을 관찰할 수 있었다. 그리고 cyclophosphamide를 투여하여 상피 특히 상피기저세포에 손상을 가한 후 회복되는 과정에서 상피기저세포들에서 sialoadhesin의 발현이 증가된다는 사실을 증명할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과는 중층편평상피의 기저세포에서 sialoadhesin이 중요한 역할을 할 것이라는 사실을 시사한다 Sialoadhesin (Sn) expression has been demonstrated on murine and rat macrophages in lymphatic organs and is recognized by the monoclonal antibody (mAb) ED3 in the rat. Sialoadhesin (Siglec-1), the ED3 antigen in the rat, is a subtype of sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectins (Siglecs) that bind specifically to sialic acid-containing structures such as selectins and was originally identified as the sheep erythrocyte receptor (SER) responsible for sialic acid-dependent binding of native sheep erythrocytes (SE) to resident murine bone marrow macrophages in rosetting assays. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression and potential function of sialoadhesin in the stratified squamous epithelium of the rat tongue, esophagus and skin. The expression of sialoadhesin was demonstrated by immunohistochemical analysis with the mAb ED3. This study demonstrated not only the presence of sialoadhesin on the basal epithelial cells of the stratified epithelium in normal rat tongue, esophagus and skin but also its upregulated expression on these cells in CY-treated rats. The results of the present study shed some light on the potential function of sialoadhesin in the basal epithelial cells of the stratified epithelium. Further studies may provide more insight into the role of sialoadhesin in the epithelial stem cells.

        South Korean Compeititiveness in the Defense Industry Using the Diamond Model

        The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the competitiveness of the defense industry of Korea and suggest a possible policy to promote it. Based on Michael diamond model, we computed the index of the defense industry and evaluated the nationwide competitiveness of South Korea. Throughout this process, we developed low rank factors and measurement indicators for determining competitiveness and also drew out the relative importance of low rank factors and the absolute importance of the measurement indicator by means of a series of surveys. The results from the calculation of national competitiveness through our model show that the competitiveness of the Korean defense industry stays at the level of 34 percent of the USA, 57 percent of the UK, and 70 percent of France. As to factor conditions, it has relatively lower and below the average competitiveness; for factor conditions: capital (10 percent of the USA) and research and development (19 percent of the USA); for demand condition: domestic market (30 percent of the USA) and economic environment (41 percent of the USA); and for business competition, structure, and competition (11 percent of the UK). However, for the area of related and supporting industries, it has above the average or a similar level of competitiveness with high-tech industry factor (76 percent of the UK) and government support factor (46 of the USA); also for the area of firm strategy, structure, and rivalry, economic environment (51 percent of the USA). We further analyzed internal strength and weakness as well as external opportunity and threat for the defense industry and suggest some strategies for improving the competitiveness of the defense industry.
