Purpose: We have evaluated the compliance of hormone replacement therapy. Method: There are 185 climacteric women who are divided into three groups (Group I, Group II, Group III). Group I is given conjugated equine estrogen(CEE, 0.625mg, day 1-30) plus medroxyprogesterone acetate(MPA, 5mg, day 1-12). Group II is given conjugated equine estrogen (CEE, 0.625mg, day 1-30) plus medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA, 2.5mg, day 1-30), Group III is given only conjugated equine estrogen(CEE, 0.625mg, day 1-30). Results: 1) The compliance rate of hormone replacement therapy during three months is 77.9% including each Group I : 77.7%, Group Ⅱ : 76.1%, Group Ⅲ :80.4%. 2) The compliance rate of hormone replacement therapy during six months is 60.7% including each Group Ⅰ:52.9%, Group Ⅱ: 56.4%, Group Ⅲ: 79.5%. 3) The compliance rate of hormone replacement therapy during nine months is 49.7% including each Group Ⅰ: 45.5%, Group Ⅱ:41.7%, Group Ⅲ: 64.3%. 4) The compliance rate of hormone replacement therapy during a year is 44.4% including each Group Ⅰ: 40.2%, Group Ⅱ:35.3%, Group Ⅲ: 59.5%. Conclusion : It is vital that we maximize compliance if patients are to receive the full benefits from hormone replacement therapy. We think that physicians who prescribe hormone replacement therapy for climacteric women should enough explain the purpose, risks, and side effect of treatment for maximizing compliance of hormone replacement therapy.

<P>KI0477959 (Herbkines) has been used for the purpose of development of physical strength in wasting diseases, like cancer. In the present study, apoptosis-inducing activities of butanol fraction of KI0477959 were studied in human leukemia cell line, HL-60 cells. KI0477959 increased cytotoxicity but had less effect on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. KI0477959-induced apoptosis was accompanied by activation of caspase-3 and specific proteolytic cleavage of poly-ADP-ribose polymerase. Increased apoptosis was reduced by treatment with p38 and extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK) inhibitors. These results suggest that KI0477959 induces apoptosis through activation of caspase-3, p38, and ERK in HL-60 cells.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Sb2Se3 is an emerging material among alternative light absorbers for photovoltaic applications. Unlike typical chalcogenides, Sb2Se3 is particularly appealing due to its single stable crystal phase, layered structure with loose binding of no dangling bonds. Nevertheless, a cost-effective electrochemical approach for the synthesis of Sb2Se3 compounds has not been identified, and the Sb2Se3 film with the most favorable [001] preferred orientation has only just been developed. In this study, Sb-rich precursors were prepared electrochemically at −950mV (vs. Ag/AgCl), and homogeneous Sb2Se3 thin films were produced using a pre-thermal treatment process prior to the typical selenization process with additional Se coating. This novel procedure notably suppresses potential Sb dissolution into liquid Se due to the formation of polycrystalline Sb-related crystals. As a result, the Sb-rich precursor was successfully transformed into Sb2Se3 thin films with an enhanced perpendicular orientation of the [001] direction. Unfortunately, a high density of voids was produced in the precursor film with two distinguishable layers, and their size increased after selenization. The voids were formed through evolution of H2Se gas after the initial electrochemical reaction. The resulting photovoltaic cells demonstrated an energy conversion efficiency of 1.8% in a substrate structure consisting of Mo/Sb2Se3/CdS/ZnO/ITO.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Alternative binary thin film photovoltaic absorber materials is proposed. </LI> <LI> Novel process is designed to synthesize thin film, not spontaneous Sb2Se3 nanowire. </LI> <LI> The growth evolution of Sb2Se3 thin film is evaluated via TEM and XRD analysis. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Layered structure Sb2Se3 with loose binding of no dangling bonds is an emerging material among alternative light absorbers for photovoltaic applications. In the present study, embryoid bodies (EBs) obtained from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) were induced to differentiate into germ lineage cells by treatment with bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) and retinoic acid (RA). The results were compared to the results for embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and multipotent spermatogonial stem cells (mSSCs) and quantified using immunocytochemical analysis of germ cell-specific markers (integrin-, GFR-, CD90/Thy1), fluorescence activating cell sorting (FACS), and real time-RT-PCR. We show that the highest levels of germ cell marker-expressing cells were obtained from groups treated with 10 ng/ BMP4 or 0.01 RA. In the BMP4-treated group, GFR- and CD90/Thy-1 were highly expressed in the EBs of iPSCs and ESCs compared to EBs of mSSCs. The expression of Nanog was much lower in iPSCs compared to ESCs and mSSCs. In the RA treated group, the level of GFR- and CD90/Thy-1 expression in the EBs of mSSCs Induced pluripotent stem cells, Mouse embryonic stem cells, Multipotent spermatogonial stem cells, Germ cell lineage, Differentiation potential. was much higher than the levels found in the EBs of iPSCs and similar to the levels found in the EBs of ESCs. FACS analysis using integrin-, GFR-, CD90/Thy1 and immunocytochemistry using GFR- antibody showed similar gene expression results. Therefore our results show that iPSC has the potential to differentiate into germ cells and suggest that a protocol optimizing germ cell induction from iPSC should be developed because of their potential usefulness in clinical applications requiring patient-specific cells.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells, which can be induced to differentiate into several cells. MSCs are also reported to possess immunomodulatory properties through secretion of inflammatory cytokines and generation of regulatory T (Treg) cells. Treg cells play an important role in allergic disorders, including atopic dermatitis. We examined the immunomodulatory effects of canine adipose tissue derived-MSCs (cAD-MSCs) in 3 groups: Group 1, untreated normal dog; Group 2, dogs with Dermatophagoides farinae ointment-induced atopic dermatitis; and Group 3, dogs with atopic dermatitis. Canine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were collected from each group and co-cultured with cAD-MSCs. After co-culturing, PBMCs were separated and the expression of Treg cells was examined by flow cytometry. According to the results, the populations of Treg cells were increased in 3 ex vivo experimental groups, co-cultured with cAD-MSCs. These results would be important for the application of MSCs in clinical trials.

<P>A validation study on the performance and vibration analyses of the XH-59A compound helicopter is conducted to establish techniques for the comprehensive analysis of lift-offset compound helicopters. This study considers the XH-59A lift-offset compound helicopter using a rigid coaxial rotor system as a verification model. CAMRAD II (Comprehensive Analytical Method of Rotorcraft Aerodynamics and Dynamics II), a comprehensive analysis code, is used as a tool for the performance, vibration, and loads analyses. A general free wake model, which is a more sophisticated wake model than other wake models, is used to obtain good results for the comprehensive analysis. Performance analyses of the XH-59A helicopter with and without auxiliary propulsion are conducted in various flight conditions. In addition, vibration analyses of the XH-59A compound helicopter configuration are conducted in the forward flight condition. The present comprehensive analysis results are in good agreement with the flight test and previous analyses. Therefore, techniques for the comprehensive analysis of lift-offset compound helicopters are appropriately established. Furthermore, the rotor lifts are calculated for the XH-59A lift-offset compound helicopter in the forward flight condition to investigate the airloads characteristics of the ABC™ (Advancing Blade Concept) rotor.</P>

One of the possible mechanisms of multi-drug resistance found in cancer cells is the over-expression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp). Studies have shown that compounds in plants including vegetables and fruits not only have anticancer activities bat may also modulate P-gp activity. The effect of flavonoids and organic isothiocyanate on P-gp activity was studied in human uterine sarcoma cell lines, MES-SA (sensitive) and MES-SA/DX5 (resistant) cells. The accumulation of daunomycin (DNM), a P-gp substrate, was approximately 10 times greater in the sensitive cell as compared to the resistant cells over the entire time course (up to 2 hours). The positive control, verapamil increased the two hour accumulation of DNM while quercetin decreased that of DNM in the resistant cells. l-Naphtyl-isothiocyanate (NITC) showed no effect on the two hour accumulation of DNM. The IC_(50) values for DNM in the resistant cells was about 20 times higher than that observed in the sensitive cells (10.1±1.7 μM vs. 0.58±0.28 μM). Verapamil reduced the IC_(50) value for DNM whereas flavonoids (quercetin and fisetin) increased those for DNM in the resistant cells.
