계란 가공 부산물인 난각(ES: Eggshell)은 탄산칼슘 함량이 높아 사료에 첨가하여 칼슘원으로 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 ES를 생균제의 부형제인 운반체로서 활용 가능성을 처음으로 시도하였다. L. plantarum을 대두박(SBM: Soybean meal), 난각조각(ESL: Eggshell powder with large particles), 난각미세분말(ESF: Eggshell powder with fine particles), 그리고 이들의 복합운반체인 SBM+ESL과 SBM+ESF에 생균제를 흡착시켜 그 부착상태를 주사전자현미경으로 확인하였다. 이 중 복합운반체인 SBM+ESF는 상온에서 4주 동안 pH 7~8을 유지하면서 L. plantarum의 가장 높은 생존율을 보였다. 본 연구에 사용한 모든 생균제들은 보존기간 동안 4℃에서는 높은 생존율을 보였다. 30℃에서는 유산균수는 크게 감소하였으나, B. licheniformis는 높은 생존율을 유지하였고 B. subtilis, B. amyloliquefaciens와 S. cerevisiae는 2 log10 (CFU/g)정도 감소하였다. 상기 연구결과는 사료의 칼슘원으로 이용되는 난각미세분말(ESF)을 대두박과 혼합하여 사용하면 B. licheniformis를 비롯한 일부 생균제의 생존성을 향상시켜 부형제(운반체)로도 사용할 수 있음을 밝혔다. Eggshell (ES) is a by-product of table eggs with high content of calcium carbonate which can be used as a calcium source in feed. In this study, we have first illuminated the potential application of ES as a novel carrier for probiotics. The carriers used in the study include a SBM (Soybean meal), ESL (Eggshell powder with large particles), ESF (Eggshell powder with fine particles), and the complex carriers (SBM+ESL, SBM+ESF). The structure of carriers absorbed by L. plantarum was confirmed by SEM image. Among these carriers, the complex carrier SBM+ESF showed the highest viability of L. plantarum with pH 7~8 during four weeks storage at room temperature. The SBM+ESF was further tested as a carrier for various probiotic strains at 4℃ or 30℃. All the probiotic strains showed high viability at 4℃ storage. However, a significant reduction of Lactobacillus cells was observed at 30℃ storage. B. lichenifomis maintained high viability whereas B. subtilis, B. amyloliquefaciens, and S. cerevisiae showed the reduction of 2 log10 (CFU/g). These results suggest that if the ESF as a calcium source in feed was mixed with SBM, it can be used as an effective complex carrier for improving the viability of some probiotics including B. licheniformis.
변산반도국립공원 내 미선나무 아개체군의 생태적 특성과 관리제언

본 연구는 전라북도 부안군 변산반도국립공원 내 3개 지역에 분포하는 우리나라의 희귀 및 멸종위기식물인 미선나무 아개체군을 대상으로 생태적 특성 분석과 관리방안을 강구하기 위한 것이다. 변산반도국립공원에 위치한 미선나무 아개체군 중 부안댐 제방하부 지역과 상서면 청림리 산록에 자생군락을 천연기념물 제370호로 지정한 반면, 가마소지역의 미선나무아개체군은 이식한 집단이다. 미선나무 아개체군 중 가마소 아개체군의 식생은 감나무, 오동나무 및 산뽕나무가 교목상이나, 부안댐 하부의 아개체군은 굴참나무가 우점하고 있다. 미선나무 자생지인 청림리 아개체군은 미선나무를 제외한 관목이상의 목본수종을 모두 제거한 상태였다. 미선나무 아개체군에서 확인한 식물종은 65과 143속 164종 17변종 1품종 등 총 182분류군이며, 가마소 지역, 부안댐 제방하부지역 및 청림리 지역은 각각 75종, 102종 및 89종이다. 미선나무 아개체군 통향은 가마소지역과 부안댐 하부 자생지에서 맹아의 수가 1~2개인 개체가 87%이상이고, 나머지는 3개였으며, 총 개체 수는 각 766개체와 59개체였다. 반면, 청림리의 경우 맹아의 수가 1~2개인 개체가 74.8%, 3개는 16% 그리고 4~1l개가 9.2%로 총 838개체를 확인하였다. 교목을 인위적으로 제거한 미선나무 자생지에는 흰명아주, 돌소루쟁이, 미국자리공, 나팔꽃, 배풍등, 망초 및 개망초 등 귀화식물이 침입하였으며, 미선나무 어린 개체보다 성장이 빨라 미선나무를 피압한 상태이다. 미선나무의 자생지 보전을 위한 우선순위로 미선나무 단일종이나 수림 하에 분포하는 원 자생지의 모습 그대로를 유지하는 것이 서식지 관리에 바람직한지는 더 많은 연구가 필요하다. This study was carried out focused an ecololgical characteristics and habitat management of Abeliophyllum distichum subpopulations in the Byeonsanbando National Park, Korea. Among three subpopulations of the target species in the studied area, Gamaso region are known as translocation site due to the dam construction while the wild populations which is located at both the lower terrain of the Buandaem bank and Chongnim-ni, which is designated as Natural Monument No 370, is threat due to an intensive site management likes clearance of scrub amongst the Abeliophyllum plants. Vascular plant taxa in the studied sites were summarized as 182 taxa; 65 families, 143 genera, 164 species, 17 varieties and 1 form, and Gamaso area, the lower terrain of the Buandaem and Cheongnim-ni areas are summarized as 75,102 and 89 taxa, respectively. The plant species likes persimmon tree, paulownia tree and wild mulberry tree are dominant species in the Gamaso subpopulation, while Quercus variabilis is dominant at the lower terrain of the Buandaem. The intensive site management was applied to the Cheongnim-ni subpopulation, one of the original wild habitats of the species. The population dymanics was varied; the one or two sprouting number of stems was over 87% both at Gamaso area and the lower terrain of the Buandam, while the Cheongnim-ni subpopulation recorded as 74.8%. Also three sprouting number recorded as 16% and as 9.2% for sprouting on numbers of four to eleven. The invaded species likes Chenopodium album, Rumex obtusifolius, Phytolacca americana, Pharbitis nil, Solanum lyratum, Erigeron canadensis and Erigeron annuus, were found at the wild habitat of the species, and those invaded species grow faster than Abeliophyllum plants. Among three habitats of the target species in the studied area, the habitat which in located at the lower terrain of the Buandam and Gamaso region are known as translocated due to the dam construction, and wild subpopulation at Chongnim-ni, which is designated as Natural Monument No 370, is under threatened due to an intensive site management likes clearance of scrub amongst the Abeliophyllumplants. It is one of the evidence that Cuscuta japonica at the population indicated an intensive site management likes clearance of scrub is not proper habitat management protocol. Thus, further researches should be followed to determine the effect of canopy removal and other disturbance factors as management techniques.

N/A L-3[123I]iodo-methyltyrosine([123I] IMT) was synthesized by electrophilic radio-iodination using chloramine-T and Iodobead in phosphate buffered solution. And the biodistribution was examined in 9L glioma bearing rats. The radiosynthesis of [123I] IMT with iodobead was simpler and higher in radiochemical yield(88%) than the method using chloramine-T(83%) as radioiodinating reagent. The highest yield was obtained from the reaction using 1 piece of Iodobead, 200μg α- methyltyrosine in 100μl phosphate-buffered solution (pH 5.5) and the reaction was completed in 7min. 24hours after the injection, the biodistribution in 9L glioma transplanted rats revealed the in vivo deiodination, the excretion via kidney, and 3 times higher uptake in the tumor than normal brain. These results suggest the promising clinical use of [123I]IMT in the various ious malignancies.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of machine learning methods that combine data on age and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels for predicting prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: We analyzed 943 patients who underwent transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy at Chungnam National University Hospital between 2014 and 2018 because of elevated PSA levels and/or abnormal digital rectal examination and/or TRUS findings. We retrospectively reviewed the patients’ medical records, analyzed the prediction rate of prostate cancer, and identified 20 feature importances that could be compared with biopsy results using 5 different algorithms, viz., logistic regression (LR), support vector machine, random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting, and light gradient boosting machine. Results: Overall, the cancer detection rate was 41.8%. In patients younger than 75 years and with a PSA level less than 20 ng/mL, the best prediction model for prostate cancer detection was RF among the machine learning methods based on LR analysis. The PSA density was the highest scored feature importances in the same patient group. Conclusions: These results suggest that the prediction rate of prostate cancer using machine learning methods not inferior to that using LR and that these methods may increase the detection rate for prostate cancer and reduce unnecessary prostate biopsy, as they take into consideration feature importances affecting the prediction rate for prostate cancer.

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum is a rare complication of asthma. During acute attack of asthma alveolar overdistension or rupture due to excessive air pressure results in the leakage of air from the respiratory tract and through dissection along great vessel sheaths to the mediastinum and pericardium. The clinical diagnosis is based on the symptom triads of chest pain, dyspnea, and subcutaneous emphysema, and is also based on Hamman`s sign. The diagnosis is confirmed by chest radiography. The main differential diagnosis is esophageal perforation, which requires esophagography with contrast when there is the slightest doubt in the diagnosis. Management consists of eradication of the underlying cause, rest, analgesics, and simple clinical monitoring. Predisposing factors should be identified and managed to prevent recurrence. We report a case of subcutaneous emphysema in a 15-year-old patient with asthma who presented with spontaneous pneumomediastinum and pneumopericardium. N/A In 57 adult onset diabetics without hypertension, congestive heart failure, ischemic heart diease and renal disease, systolic time interval, left ventricular thickness, dimension and weight were investigatd and compared to 36 control subjects. Diabetic patients were subgrouped by duration of disease and some accompanied complicated conditions (neuropathy, retinopathy). Results were as follows. 1) There were no significant difference between control and diseased group in measures of left ventricular weight, thickness, and dimension, But shortening of left ventricular ejection time (LVET) (p<0,05), prolongation of prejection period (PEP) (p< 0,01) and increse of PEP/LVET ratio (p<.0.01) were noted in diabetics compared to control subject. 2) PEP/LVET ratio was increased significantly in diabetics with proliferative retinopathy (p<0.01), a disease duration of 10 years (p<0.02), and severe neuropathy (p<0.01), compared to normal fundus, a disease duration of <9 years and nonneuropathy. 3) Interventricular septal thickness and posteior wall thickness were increased significantly in proliferative retinopathy (p<0.01, p<0.01) and disease duration of > 10 years (p<0.05, p<0.02) but was not in neuopathy group. 4) Left ventricular weight were increased significantly in proliferative retinopathy (p<0.01), disease duration of >10 years (p<0.01), and severe neuropathy (p<0.01). As mentioned above, increased PEPLYET ratio and left ventricular weight were found in diabetics with severe microangiopathic lesion. Some ralation between left ventricular mass and PEP/LVET ratio seems to exist, but was not conclusive.
