A breast modeler based on analysis of breast scans

Seo, Hyewon,Cordier, Frederic,Hong, Kyunghi John Wiley Sons, Ltd. 2007 Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds (Print) Vol.18 No.2

<P>The advent of 3D scanning technology has allowed effective measurement and analysis of breast size and shape, attracting interests by plastic surgeons, brassier designers, etc. Much work remains, however, before 3D scanning systems can be successfully used in automated analysis and synthesis of the breast—filtering noise, filling holes, and, in case a statistical analysis is desired, finding correspondence among each scan data. Moreover, analysis of a sagged breast is difficult to obtain, due to occlusions. In this paper, we address the problems and specific issues of using 3D scan data for the analysis and synthesis of breast models. The goal of our work is to build a breast modeler which can help both surgeons and garment designers in analyzing breast volume and surface measurements. Given enough samples of scanned breasts, our modeler can generate highly realistic breast shape, with some expected and consistent variability. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.</P>

      • Do Acquisitions by Private Equity Funds Create Value? Evidence from Acquisitions in Korea

Hyewon Seo,Hyun Seung Na 한국재무학회 2022 한국재무학회 학술대회 Vol.2022 No.11

This research investigates the performance and sources of value gains of acquisitions by private equity (PE) fund investors using a sample of Korean listed firms acquired in the period from 2007 to 2017. Our sample includes both full acquisitions in which acquirers obtain the largest target ownership and block acquisitions in which acquirers purchase at least 5% of target shares without becoming its largest shareholder. We find significant and positive stock market reactions to both types of acquisitions by PE funds. We also find operating performance improvement following full acquisitions by PE funds. Moreover, the improved post-acquisition performance is more pronounced in PE fund targets that appoint new outside directors or those with finance experiences after full acquisitions. These results suggest that acquisitions by PE funds create value for shareholders mainly by governance and operational engineering and this value enhancement is more evident when PE funds obtain full controls over acquisition targets.

Simultaneous Quantitative Determination of Nine Hallucinogenic NBOMe Derivatives in Human Plasma Using Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Seo, Hyewon,Yoo, Hye Hyun,Kim, Young-Hoon,Hong, Jin,Sheen, Yhun Yhong Korean Society for Mass Spectrometry 2019 Mass spectrometry letters Vol.10 No.1

We developed a bioanalytical method for simultaneous determination of nine NBOMe derivatives (25H-NBOMe, 25B-NBOMe, 25E-NBOMe, 25N-NBOMe, 25C-NBOH, 25I-NBOH, 25B-NBF, 25C-NBF, and 25I-NBF) in human plasma using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Human plasma samples were pre-treated using solid-phase extraction. Separation was achieved on a C18 column under gradient elution using a mobile phase containing 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid in water at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min. Mass detection was performed in the positive ion mode using multiple reaction monitoring. The calibration range was 1-100 ng/mL for all quantitative analytes, with a correlation coefficient greater than 0.99. The intra- and inter-day precision and accuracy varied from 0.85 to 6.92% and from 90.19 to 108.69%, respectively. The recovery ranged from 86.36 to 118.52%, and the matrix effects ranged from 27.09 to 99.72%. The stability was acceptable in various conditions. The LC-MS/MS method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, matrix effects, recovery and stability in accordance with the FDA guidance. The proposed method is suitable for reliable and robust routine screening and analysis of nine NBOMe derivatives in forensic field.

3D billiards game with haptic interface

Seo, Hyewon,Bang, Joon-Won,Park, Ji-Man,Jeon, Soo-Hyun John Wiley Sons, Ltd. 2010 Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds (Print) Vol.21 No.5

<P>Intuitive human-computer interaction has been an active research area with the participation of both academic and industrial groups. It is an important technical and psychological element in computer games, digital product design, cybersports, etc. In this paper, we present our work on a 3D billiards game featuring a haptic interface. Most of the existing games available today concentrate on the development of sophisticated physics engines to obtain realistic motion of billiards balls or of sound engines for realistic sound effect. Our focus in this work is on the improved realism on the hitting action of the game with the aid of haptic device. We do so by computing accurate feedback force on the haptic handle, considering the exact point of contact and physically faithful collision response. Also presented is the physically based modeling of the game environment, including the collision interaction among billiards balls, and between the table and billiards balls. As a result, the players can enjoy a more realistic and pleasurable game compared to other existing 3D billiards games. The aim of this study is to evaluate that clearance of HPV and several STD pathogens in women with condyloma. Here, we evaluated the clearance of human papillomavirus (HPV), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Trichomonas vaginalis (TV), Mycoplasma hominis (MH), Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU), and Ureaplasma parvum (UP). Methods: This study was conducted on 66 patients with pathologically proven condyloma at the St Pauls Hospital of the Catholic University of Korea from Jan, 2012 until Dec, 2017. Among them, we evaluated 30 women who had done STD and HPV assay by using two multiplex real-time PCR assays based on TOCE technology. Results: The mean age of 66 patients was 34.59 years. Mean follow up period was 3.9 month (maximen 29 month). Of the above pathogens sought, TV, MG and NG were not detected while positive results were found for MH (6 cases), CT ( 3 cases), UU ( 6 cases) and UP (7 caesa). High risk, low risk and those two category of HPV detection was 3 (20%),3(20%) and 4(23.3%). Of the women follow-up, median clearance time of those pathogens was 9 month in 31-50 years old group. Three women have LSIL. Among them, two women have multiple high and low risk HPVs and they showed persistent abnormal cytology over 4 month. Conclusion: : In a follow-up after condyloma, women with Chlamydia, Ureaplasma, Mycoplasma showed some persistence.. The high sensitivity and specificity of these assays along with the simultaneous detection of the most common sexually transmitted pathogens confers an advantage . The relation between HPV and those pathogens in condyloma will require more follow-up studies.

      • A Reaction-Based Sensing Scheme for Gold Species: Introduction of a (2-Ethynyl)benzoate Reactive Moiety

        Seo, Hyewon,Jun, Mi Eun,Egorova, Olga A.,Lee, Kyung-Ha,Kim, Kyong-Tai,Ahn, Kyo Han American Chemical Society 2012 Organic letters Vol.14 No.19

<P>To alleviate side reactions identified in an <I>N</I>-propargyl-rhodamine lactam sensing system, we devised the novel reaction-based sensing scheme for gold species based on the alkynophilicity. A fluorescein (2-ethynyl)benzoate underwent Au(III)-promoted ester hydrolysis selectively over other metal ions with high sensitivity, which accompanies a turn-on fluorescence change in pH 7.4 HEPES buffer. The work offers a versatile reactive moiety for the development of gold probes with improved sensing properties.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/orlef7/2012/orlef7.2012.14.issue-19/ol302291c/production/images/medium/ol-2012-02291c_0002.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ol302291c'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

      • Clinical Relevance of Emphysema in Patients Hospitalized with Community-acquired Pneumonia: Clinical Features and Prognosis

        ( Hyewon Seo ),( Seung-ick Cha ),( Ji-eun Park ),( Sunji Park ),( Sun Ha Choi ),( Yong-hoon Lee ),( Seung-soo Yoo ),( Shin-yup Lee ),( Jaehee Lee ),( Chang-ho Kim ),( Jae-yong Park ) 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 2020 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 추계학술대회 초록집 Vol.128 No.0

Introduction Few studies have investigated the influence of emphysema on clinical features of patients presenting with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the clinical and microbiological features of patients with both CAP and emphysema. Methods This retrospective study included patients with CAP who underwent computed tomography (CT) scan at the time of presentation. Patients were allocated into emphysema and control groups, and clinical variables were compared between the 2 groups. The emphysema group was further divided into 3 subgroups (mild, moderate, and severe) according to the extent of emphysema on CT scan. The clinical variables of each subgroup were compared with the control group. Results Of 1676 patients, 431 patients (25.7%) were classified into the emphysema group. CAP patients with emphysema were more likely to have a high CURB-65 score and pneumonia severity index and a lower incidence of complicated parapneumonic effusion or empyema. The emphysema group exhibited longer hospital stay. In addition, 30-day mortality in the severe emphysema group was significantly higher compared with the control group. As etiological agents, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacteriaceae, and multi-drug resistant pathogens were significantly more common in the emphysema group compared with the control group. Conclusion The presence of emphysema in CAP patients was associated with a more severe form of CAP, a longer hospital stay, and a lower incidence of complicated parapneumonic effusion or empyema. Moreover, CAP patients with severe emphysema exhibited higher 30-day mortality than those without emphysema.

      • Ratiometric Fluorescence Detection of Anthrax Biomarker with EuIII -EDTA Functionalized Mixed Poly(diacetylene) Liposomes

Seo, Hyewon,Singha, Subhankar,Ahn, Kyo Han Wiley (John WileySons) 2017 ASIAN JOURNAL OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY Vol.6 No.9

<P>Anthrax, a bacteriogenic fatal infectious disease that is harmful to humans, requires the early and ready detection of its bacterial endospores. We report herein the use of poly(diacetylene acid) derived liposomes functionalized with Eu-III-EDTA complexes as a ratiometric fluorescence detection system for dipicolinate, an anthrax biomarker and major component of the endospores. The red fluorescence of the polymerized liposomes provides a built-in reference signal to monitor the relative change of the europium luminescence sensitized by the bound dipicolinate relative to the reference liposome emission. The liposome-based integrated sensing system shows reasonable sensitivity as well as remarkable selectivity toward dipicolinate over other structurally related analytes. Paper strip sensors based on the polymerized liposomes are also prepared for the visible detection of dipicolinate.</P>

      • Prognostic Factors in Patients Hospitalized with Community-acquired Aspiration Pneumonia

        ( Hyewon Seo ),( Seung-ick Cha ),( Ji-eun Park ),( Sun Ha Choi ),( Yong-hoon Lee ),( Seung-soo Yoo ),( Shin-yup Lee ),( Jaehee Lee ),( Chang-ho Kim ),( Jae-yong Park ) 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 2021 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 추계학술대회 초록집 Vol.129 No.-

Purpose Patients with aspiration pneumonia (AP) exhibit higher mortality than those with non-AP. However, data regarding predictors of prognosis in patients with community-acquired AP are limited. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical factors that could predict short-term mortality in patients with AP. Methods Patients hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) were retrospectively classified into aspiration pneumonia (AP) and non-AP groups. The AP patients were further divided into nonsurvivors and survivors by 30-day mortality, and various clinical variables were compared between the groups. Results Of 1,249 CAP patients, 254 (20.3%) were classified into the AP group, of whom 76 patients (29.9%) died within 30 days. CURB- 65, pneumonia severity index (PSI), and Infectious Diseases Society of America/American Thoracic Society criteria for severe CAP (SCAP) showed only modest prognostic performance for the prediction of 30-day mortality. Along with the PSI and SCAP, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG-PS) and blood biomarkers, including, N-terminal of prohormone brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and albumin, were independent predictors of 30-day mortality. In models based on clinical prediction rules, the addition of ECOG-PS further improved their c-statistics compared to the clinical prediction rules alone. In the four combinations based on SCAP, ECOG-PS, NT-proBNP and albumin, the c-statistics further increased to reach approximately 0.8. Conclusions CURB-65, PSI, and SCAP exhibited only modest discriminatory power in predicting the 30-day mortality of patients with community-acquired AP. The addition of performance status, NT-proBNP and albumin, further increased prognostic performance, showing good predictive accuracy in the SCAP-based model.
