소목(Caesalpinia sappan) 추출물의 Streptococcus mutans에 대한 성장, 산생성, 부착 및 비수용성 글루칸 합성 억제에 미치는 영향

Streptococcus mutans is known as the causative bacterial playing the most important role in forming plaque and it is being noticed as major causative bacteria of dental caries. Therefore, development of more effective, substantial and safe preventive agent against dental caries and periodontal disease is honestly required. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of chloroform extract(CE), n-butanol extract(BE),methanol extract(ME) and water extract(WE) of Caesalpinia on the growth, acid production, adhesion, and insoluble glucan synthesis of Streptococcus mutans. The CE, BE, ME and WE decreased the growth and acid production of S.mutans than that of control, especially, the ME was more effective than other extracts. The effect of CE, BE, ME and WE on the adherences to saliva-coated hydroxyapatite bead(S-HA) were evaluated. At the concentration of 2,000 ㎍/㎖, the CE showed 32% rate of bacterial adherence to S-HA, whereas, other extracts of the same concentration producedgreater than 50% rate. The CE and BE were significantly decreased the reduction rates of water insoluble glucan formation from sucrose by crude glucosyltransferase of S.mutans. Thus, the application of C. sappan can be considered a useful and a practical method for the prevention of dental caries.
송이 (Tricholoma matsutake) 자실체의 화학성분

송이(Tricholoma matsutake) 자실체의 메탄올(methanol, MeOH) 추출물로부터 4개의 화합물을 분리하였으며, 기기분석 결과 adcnosinc (9-β-D-ribofuranosyladenine)을 비롯하여, methyl trans-cinnamate, ergosterol (ergosta-5, 7, 22-triene-3β-ol) 및 ergosta-4, 6, 8 (14), 22-tetraen-3-one으로 각각 동정하였다. One alkaloid derivatives, one amide and two steroids were isolated from the fruit bodies of Tricholoma matsutake. The structures were determinded as adenosine, methyl trans-cinnamate, ergosterol and ergosta-4, 6, 8 (14), 22-tetraen-3-one, respectively, on the basis of spectroscopic data.
그리기 활동을 통한 초등학생들의 환경에 대한 인식 분석

이 연구는 초등학교 6학년 학생의 환경 인식은 어떤 특징을 가지고 있으며,학생이 생활하는 지역에 따라 환경 인식은 어떤 차이가 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 광주광역시와 경기도에 위치한 5개교 10학급 340명을 대상으로 환경에 대한 그리기 활동과 그림에 대한 설명 그리고 그림에 등장하는 환경 요소를 분석하여 학생들의 환경 인식을 확인하였다. 연구 결과,환경에 대한 인식은 인공 환경,자연 환경,인간 공존 환경,추상적 환경으로 표면화 되었으며,생물과 무생물 및 인공물을 포함한 다양한 환경 요소들올 표현하여 학생들의 일상적인 생활 주변의 환경 요소에 대한 높은 인식이 드러난 것으로 보인 다. 5 유형으로 구분한 거주 지역별 학생들이 갖는 환경 인식은 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았고 인공 환경으로 인식하는 경우가 일반적이었다. The present study purposed to examine the charactehstics of sixth-graders'perception of the environment and difference in their perception of the environment according to area. For this study, we surveyed the perception of the environment in 10 classes 340 students from 5 elementary schools in Gwangju and Gyeonggi do by analyzing their environment related drawing activities, their explanations about their drawings, and environmental elements appearing in the drawings. According to the results of this study, sixth-graders'perception of the environment were described by artificial environment, natural environment, environment in which people live together, and abstract perceptions. In addition, they expressed various environmental elements such as living things, lifeless things and artificial things, and this shows their high perception of environmental elements around them. What is more, the sixth-graders from five different areas did not show any statistically significant difference in their perception of the environment, but perception as artificial environment was more general among the students.
한국인 간세포암 환자에서 경피적 에탄올 주입술의 치료 효과

Background/Aims: Percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT) is widely used for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its long-term therapeutic efficacy is not verified in Korea, one of hepatitis B virus (HBV) endemic areas. Thus, this study was to assess its efficacy and prognostic factors affecting tumor-free survival following PEIT in Korean HCC patients. Methods: From 1997 to 1999, 100 consecutive patients who had 1 to 3 HCC nodules of maximum diameter less than 3 cm and underwent PEIT were enrolled. Therapeutic efficacy, overall and tumor-free survival rates were assessed during follow-up periods. Results: In 83 patients, HCC nodules were completely ablated by PEIT. The cumulative 1, 2, and 3 year overall survival rates were 98%, 96%, and 88%, respectively. The cumulative 1, 2, and 3 year tumor-free survival rates were 73%, 50%, and 37%, respectively. Larger tumors (=2 cm) were associated with a higher local recurrence rate. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that PEIT is therapeutically useful in patients with HCC less than 4 in number and less than 3 cm in diameter. However, since multiple or large tumors are associated with low tumor-free survival or high local recurrence rates, PEIT for these tumors and the subsequent post-treatment follow-up should be performed carefully. The expression of BCL-2 interacting cell death suppressor (BIS), an anti-stress or anti-apoptotic protein, has been shown to be regulated at the transcriptional level by heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) upon various stresses. Recently, HSF1 was also shown to bind to BIS, but the significance of these protein-protein interactions on HSF1 activity has not been fully defined. In the present study, we observed that complete depletion of BIS using a CRISPR/Cas9 system in A549 non-small cell lung cancer did not affect the induction of heat shock protein (HSP) 70 and HSP27 mRNAs under various stress conditions such as heat shock, proteotoxic stress, and oxidative stress. The lack of a functional association of BIS with HSF1 activity was also demonstrated by transient downregulation of BIS by siRNA in A549 and U87 glioblastoma cells. Endogenous BIS mRNA levels were significantly suppressed in BIS knockout (KO) A549 cells compared to BIS wild type (WT) A549 cells at the constitutive and inducible levels. The promoter activities of BIS and HSP70 as well as the degradation rate of BIS mRNA were not influenced by depletion of BIS. In addition, the expression levels of the mutant BIS construct, in which 14 bp were deleted as in BIS-KO A549 cells, were not different from those of the WT BIS construct, indicating that mRNA stability was not the mechanism for autoregulation of BIS. Our results suggested that BIS was not required for HSF1 activity, but was required for its own expression, which involved an HSF1-independent pathway.

A 48 year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of cough, sputum and dyspnea of exertion lasting for 5 years. She had a history of asthma for 30 years and treated with medication, intermittently. And she had ulcerative colitis treated with sulfasalazine for 5 years. She was not febrile and vital sign was stable. Laboratory data showed WBC 6,520/mm3 (neutrophil 50%, lymphocyte 25%, eosinophil 20%), CRP 0.02. Chest x-ray showed increased mass like haziness on retrocardiac left lower lung field. Sputum exam showed AFB negative, fungus negative, gram stain negative. Chest CT was performed and showed patchy consolidation in left lower lung field. We did fine needle aspiration biopsy at the lesion. The microscopic finding is characterized by dense airspace aggregation of loose fibroblasts in ground substance and type II pneumocytes hyperplasia with admixed eosinophils. The finding appears to be compatible with an overlap syndrome between cryptogenic organizing pneumonia and eosinophilc pneumonia. She had took sulfasalazine medication and showed characteristic microscopic finding, we diagnose as sulfasalazine-induced cryptogenic organizing pneumonia. She was treated with prednisolone and stopped sulfasalazine. After the treatment, lung mass size was decreased on chest x-ray and her symptom was improved. Sulfasalazine commonly used in. ammatory bowel disease has various kinds of side effects. and lung toxicity is rare. But if lung toxicity occur, idiopathic organizing pneumonia is distinctive of sulfasalazine-induced lung toxicity. Therefore we report sulfasalazine-induced organizing pneumonia in patient with ulcerative colitis.
