비타민 E와 C의 복합섭취가 최대운동시 호흡순환기능 및 혈중 지질치에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of compound supplement vitamins E and C on the blood lipid levels during maximal exercise. Seven subjects are high school students and have to be taken 400IU of vitamin E and 200mg of vitamin C after breakfast during 8weeks, and maximal exercise before vitamin compound supplements and after 8weeks The results of this study are as follows: 1. In maximal exercise before and after taking vitamin E-C compound supplements, oxygen uptake (V02) and METs significantly (P<.01, P<.05) increased. Ventilation (CAE) also increased significantly (P<.05), while heart rate (HR) significantly (P<.05) decreased after vitamin E-C compound supplements. 2. TG was significantly (P<.05, P<.Ol) lowered before as well as after the maximal exercise. Total cholesterol (T-C) showed significant (P<.05) decrease after the maximal exercise. HDL-C indicated significant (P<.05) increase, but LDL-C presented reduction of significance (P<.05) before and after the maximal exercise. The LDL-C/HDL-C ratio significantly (P<.Ol, P<.05) decreased before and following the training. The T-C/HDL-C ratio also retained significant (P<.05, P<.Ol) reduction both before and after the running exercise. In conclusion, the compound supplements of vitamins E and C are considered to improve the respiro-circulatory function in exhaustive exercise, decrease an LDL-C concentration, increase an HDL-C concentration and prevent arteriosclerosis.

The prevalence of PPNG among pretreated gonorrhea cases isolated at the STD clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul has been studied and reported annually since 1981. In 1991, 123 strains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 58(47.1%) were PPNG. In 1992, 98 starains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 51(52.0%) were PPNG. In all, 109(49.3%) strains were found to be PPNG among 221 strains isolated between 1991-1992. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul showed increased tendency till 1989, thereafter, it has been stationary or slightly decreasing.
Genetic Diversity of Rock Bream Oplegnathus fasciatus in Southern Korea

Data on population genetic structure are of growing interest in the context of stock enhancement programs, which involve the release of animals, and conservation biology. In this study, we examined the genetic characteristics of three rock bream populations in southern Korea using microsatellite markers to understand their genetic diversity. A total of 181 rock breams from the three populations (Tongyeong, Wando and Jeju) were typed for six polymorphic microsatellite loci. A total of 80 different alleles were found over all loci, with some alleles being unique. The average number of allele per locus ranged from 7.7 to 16.7. The average observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.503 to 0.934 and from 0.588 to 0.917, respectively. A deficit of heterozygotes relative to Hardy-Weinberg expectations was found for two loci and in one site, indicating genetic instability within this region. However, FST and RST values showed no significant genetic differentiation among the three populations. These results suggest the possibility of a genetically identical population in southern Korea. This study provides the first comprehensive information about the genetic characteristics of Korean rock bream populations, which could be of use in fisheries management and the aquaculture industry, especially with regard to stock enhancement programs.

The threadsail filefish Stephanolepis cirrhifer is a highly commercial fisheries resource in Korea that suffers intensive anthropogenic pressure across much of its range. For basic information about its current genetic status in relation to stock enhancement, the level and distribution of genetic variation between a wild and a hatchery-bred population were investigated using 10 microsatellite markers developed for Thamnaconus modestus. High levels of polymorphism were observed between the two populations. A total of 95 different alleles were found at all loci, with some alleles being unique. The allelic variability ranged from six to 13 in the wild population and from five to 13 in the hatchery one. The average observed and expected heterozygosities were estimated to be 0.72 and 0.80 in the wild sample and 0.70 and 0.79 in the hatchery one, respectively. These results showed similar genetic variability in the hatchery population, as compared with the wild population and significant genetic differentiation between the wild population and the hatchery samples (F_(ST) = 0.016,P < 0.05). Genetic drift in the intensive breeding practices for stock enhancement has probably promoted differentiation between populations. Significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were detected in both populations. Our results indicate that further studies using species-specific microsatellite markers will be necessary for a more reliable assessment of genetic diversity of the species.
Studies on the function of murine DNA polymerase β using transgenic Drosophila

DNA polymerase β는 DNA 대사의 여러 측면에 관여할 것으로 알려져 있지만, in vivo에서의 정확한 기능은 아직 완전히 밝혀져 있지 않다. DNA actin 5C유전자의 promotor에 rat DNA polymerase β cDNA를 연결시킨 chimeric 유전자를 도입한 transgenic Drosophila를 이용하여 개체 수준에서 DNA polymerase β의 기능을 조사하고자 하였다. Southern analysis와 p[w : polβ]의 transmission 양상의 조사를 통해, 각 transformant line에 한 개의 p[w : polβ]element가 삽입되었음을 밝혔다. MMC, MMS와 UV에 의한 killing에 대한 감수성을 transgenic strain과 비교하였다. 또한, MMC와 MMS에 의해 유발된 mitotic recombination에 대한 감수성을 transgenic strain과 host strain에서 비교하였다. 본 연구 결과에서, transgenic Drosophila에서 발현된 rat DNA polymerase β는 적어도 mitotic recombination의 생성과정에는 관여하는 것으로 나타났다. DNA polymerase β has been implicated in the several aspects of DNA metabolism, but its precise role in vivo remains to be fifined. The biological function of DNA polymerase β in the whole organism was examined using the transgenic Drosophila bearing chimeric gene consisting of a promoter region of Drosophila actin 5C gene and rat DNA polymerase β cDNA. Southern analysis of genomic DNA of transgenic flies and the pattern of transmission of p[w : polβ]indicated that a single copy of p[w : polβ] was integrated in each transformant line. The sen sitivity of transgenic strain to killing after treatment of MMC, MMS and UV were compared with that of host strain. The sensitivity of transformant strain to mitotic recombination induced by MMC or MMS were also compared with host strain. The present results showed that rat DNA polymerase β expressed in the transgenic flies role at least in the generation process of mitotic recombination.

Cutlassfish (Trichiurus lepturus Linnaeus 1758) is a commercially important fish in Korea. In recent years, the catch of cutlassfish in the coastal waters of Korea has significantly declined. Its genetic characterization has been little studied. To assist conservation and management efforts, we isolated and characterized 10 microsatellite loci using an enrichment method based on magnetic/biotin capture of microsatellite sequences from a size-selected genomic library. To characterize each locus, 30 individuals from a natural T. lepturus population in the coastal waters of Jeju Island, Korea, were genotyped. All loci except two, KTh9B and KTh22A, were polymorphic, with an average of 14.3 alleles per locus (range, 10 22). The mean observed and expected heterozygosities were 0.80 (range, 0.50 0.97) a 0.82 (range, 0.68 0.95), respectively. A significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was observed at three loci (KTh6B, KTh10, and KTh16). This high variability indicates that these microsatellites may be useful for high-resolution studies of population genetics.
