        The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data for body compatibility improvement of Chinese adult female clothing product to domestic ready-made clothing companies as to investigates clothing wearing attitude This is done from June 23 to August 07, 2004. The subjects were 848 female women, age of 19 to 50 participated in this study. They all live in Beijing and Shanghai in China. Data was analyzed by used SPSS/WIN10.0 Program for x^(2)-test, F-test, Duncan-test. The results of this study were as follows: They almost wear brassiere and majority of them put on girdle. Winter inside undergarment above 95% wearing. To going out shoes plentifully the casual shoes, their size were 230~240mm most plentifully. They prefer comfortable shoes with the hoof 2-3cm

        Academic costume is a ceremonial dress represented authority and formality. This indicates a degree in a viewpoint of personality, and symbolizes academic authority and well matched social responsibility. Besides, it emblematizes separately university's identity and tradition, and could be utilized useful culturaltools visualized national culture and tradition. That is to say, academic costume is most effect visual medium, which symbolizes our subjective culture and academic authority and phase. Accordingly, creative academic costume's development is a link of active and positive efforts to be satisfied with various needs of spearhead information society in 21C. Academic costume designing development had been progressed a public opinion survey, theoretical examination, and research on the actual condition through various actual materials. Based on the above examination, this study performs designing development of a bachelor, master, and doctor's academic costumes. Designing development of academic costumes intend to be enlarged and developed academic costume's function as a symbolic cultural tool, which includes Sookmyung women's spirit as a beginningof the racial education. Moreover, this aims at active utilizing of academic costumes as a symbolic medium expressed Sookmyung Women's University's identity, which intends to realization of the racial education establishing women's education, racial identity, and subjectivity, and represents educational objectives planning to the ruling women's bringing up.

      • 뇌경색 환자에서의 혈장 지질과 항산화 영양소 상태에 관한 연구

        뇌경색 환자의 생활 습관, 혈장 지질 및 적혈구 지질 및 적혈구 지질의 지방산 조성과 혈장 지질과산화물 농도, 항산화영양소인 비타민 E, A, β-carotene 상태를 측정하여 대조군의 자료화 비교함으로써 뇌경색 환자의 혈장 지질과 항산화영양소 상태를 조사하였다. 18명의 남자 환자군의 평균연령은 65.7(45~76)세였으며 36명의 건강한 남자대조군의 평균연령은 59.2(55~65)세였으며, 체중, 신장 및 BMI는 대조군과 환자군 간에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 환자군의 발병전 흡연 정도와 음주정도는 대조군보다 유의하게 높았으며, 적혈구지방산 조성에 있어서 포화지방산의 비가 유의하게 높았고 다불포화지방산의 비는 유의하게 낮았으며, 통계적인 유의성은 없으나 항산화 영양소 상태가 대조군에 비하여 불량하고 혈장 과산화지질의 종도가 높은 경향을 보였다. 이의 원인으로서는 환자군이 대조군에 비해 흡연율이 높고 음주량이 많으며 운동부족 등 부적합한 생활습관이 주요한 요인으로 작용한 것으로 판단되며, 따라서 바람직한 생활습관이 뇌경색질환의 예방에 기본요건이 된다고 사료된다. To investigate antioxidant and lipid staus of patients with cerebral infarction, 18 male patients admitted to Kyungpook National University Hospital from March to October, 1995 were compared to 36 healty male control subjects. The percentages of heavy smoking, heavy drinking and nonexercise before diagnosis of the disease in the patient group were significantly higher compared to the current status of the control group. Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and lipoprotein(a) were significantly higher in the patients than the control subjects. For the fatty acid composition of erythrocytes, total saturated fatty acids(% by weight) were significantly higher and total polyunsaturated fatty acids lower in the patient group than in the control group. Plasma levels of retinol, α-tocopherol and β-carotene were not significantly different between the patient group and the control group at the level of P<0.05 Alpha-tocopherol/total cholesterol of plasma was lower in the patient group with the statistical significance of P=0.054, and the plasma level of TBARS of the patient group was 1.98 nmol MDA/mL as compared to the level of the control, 1.60 nmol MDA/mL(P=0.066). Our results indicate that oxidative stress was increased in the patients with cerebral infraction, and such outcome might have resulted from undesirable life styles.

        Importance of taxonomic research for biodiversity of Korea

        In 2012, the NIBR started publishing the Journal of Species Research (JSR) as an international specialized journal of biological taxonomy focusing on taxonomic research. JSR Volume 5 Number 3, to be published in October 2016, has been planned as a 'Special Edition on New and Unrecorded Species of Invertebrates in Korea', and so it consists of the reports of 149 new and unrecorded invertebrate species (including protozoa) discovered in Korea. In future, the JSR should further accelerate the use of such methods to generate valid data for new species and effectively support the compilation of 'National List of Species of Korea'. In this way, it will contribute significantly to enrich for biodiversity in Korea.

        Red Ginseng Saponin Fraction A Isolated from Korean Red Ginseng by Ultrafiltration on the Porcine Coronary Artery

        Red ginseng saponin fraction-A (RGSF-A) contains a high percentage of panaxadiol saponins that were isolated from Korean red ginseng by ultrafiltration. The aim of this study was to elucidate the effects of RGSF-A on the porcine distal left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery. The relaxant responses to RGSF-A were examined during contractions induced by 100 nM U46619 (9,11-dideoxy-9a,11a-methanoepoxy-prostaglandin F2a), a stable analogue of thromboxane A2. RGSF-A dose-dependently induced biphasic (fast- and slow-) relaxation in the distal LAD coronary artery in the presence of an intact endothelium. The fast-relaxation was quickly achieved in a minute, and then the slow-relaxation was slowly developed and sustained for more than thirty minutes after the administration of RGSF-A. The slow-relaxation had a tendency to be bigger than the fast-relaxation. Fast relaxation induced by RGSF-A was almost blocked by $N_{\omega}$-Nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), a nitric oxide synthase synthase inhibitor and 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ), a guanylate cyclase inhibitor. However slow relaxation induced by RGSF-A was only partially inhibited by L-NAME and ODQ. In the endothelium-removed ring, RGSF-A evoked only slowrelaxation to a certain extent. These data suggest that RGSF-A induced both endothelium dependent fast- and slow-relaxation and endothelium independent slow-relaxation in the porcine distal LAD coronary artery. The endothelium dependent fast-relaxation is mediated by the nitric oxide (NO)-cGMP pathway, and the endothelium dependent slow-relaxation is at least partially mediated by the NO-cGMP pathway. However, the endothelium-independent slow-relaxation remains to be elucidated.

        Isolation and Characterization of a Novel Lactic Acid Bacterium for the Production of Lactic Acid

        We isolated a novel lactic acid bacterium from a Korean traditional fermented food, soybean paste. The newly isolated strain, dubbed RKY2, grew well on glucose, sucrose, galactose, and fructose, but it could not utilize xylose, starch, or glycerol. When the partially amplified 16S rDNA sequence (772 bp) of the strain RKY2 was compared with 10 reference strains, it was found to be most similar to Lactobacillus pentosus JCM $1588^T$, with 99.74% similarity. There-fore, the strain RKY2 was renamed Lactobacillus sp. RKY2, which has been deposited in the Korean Collection for Type Cultures as KCTC 10353BP. Lactobacillus sp. RKY2 was found to be a homofermentative lactic acid bacterium, because its end-product from glucose metabolism was found to be mainly lactic acid. It could produce more than 90 g/L of lactic acid from MRS medium supplemented with 100 g/L of glucose, with 5.2 g $L^-1$ $h^-1$ of productivity and 0.95 g/g of lactic acid yield.

        Challenges and Opportunities for Academic Journals to Serve the Older Population in Western Pacific Region

        Annals of Geriatric Medicine and Research held its inaugural international editorial board virtual meeting on September 16, 2021, to brainstorm ideas for sustainable growth. This special article summarizes the key concepts obtained from the webinar proceedings, with further development of ideas from ensuing discussions occurring after the meeting. From the initial discussion points provided by eight editorial board members, including six presenters, email discussions further enriched these ideas to construct the current special article. The key points discussed were: impactful research and impact factors, international and Asian perspectives, and challenges to sustainable growth. The editors noted the existing gap between the impact factor and research impact as a challenge for the growth paths of regional journals. However, they agreed that persevering with impactful research would ultimately translate into parallel and gradual gains in impact, which is, therefore, consistent with the organic growth of the journal. Acknowledging challenges in navigating between unique Asian perspectives and international outlooks, the editors encouraged academic journals to serve as bridges linking international evidence with the richness of local perspectives. For sustainable growth, the editors suggested that journals may be forged into the academic ecosystems of the region, diversify value streams, and establish themselves as reputable brands in disciplines. By combining these discussions, we proposed the “IMPACT” strategy for journals on the growth path in the region, which stands for IMmersive user experience encompassing authors, reviewers, and readers; Pasteur’s quadrant use-inspired research; Asia-Pacific context; Collaborative; and Translation to practice and policy.

        Neuroprotective and Antioxidant Effects of Novel Benzofuran-2-Carboxamide Derivatives

        In the present study, we synthesized a series of novel 7-methoxy-N-(substituted phenyl)benzofuran-2-carboxamide derivatives in moderate to good yields and evaluated their neuroprotective and antioxidant activities using primary cultured rat cortical neuronal cells and in vitro cell-free bioassays. Based on our primary screening data with eighteen synthesized derivatives, nine compounds (1a, 1c, 1f, 1i, 1j, 1l, 1p, 1q and 1r) exhibiting considerable protection against the NMDA-induced excitotoxic neuronal cell damage at the concentration of 100 mM were selected for further evaluation. Among the selected derivatives, compound 1f (with -CH3 substitution at R2 position) exhibited the most potent and efficacious neuroprotective action against the NMDA-induced excitotoxicity. Its neuroprotective effect was almost comparable to that of memantine, a well-known NMDA antagonist, at 30 μM concentration. In addition to 1f, compound 1j (with -OH substitution at R3 position) also showed marked anti-excitotoxic effects at both 100 and 300 μM concentrations. These findings suggest that -CH3 substitution at R2 position and, to a lesser degree, -OH substitution at R3 position may be important for exhibiting neuroprotective action against excitotoxic damage. Compound 1j was also found to scavenge 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals and inhibit in vitro lipid peroxidation in rat brain homogenate in moderate and appreciable degrees. Taken together, our structure-activity relationship studies suggest that the compound with -CH3 substitution at R2 and -OH substitution at R3 positions of the benzofuran moiety might serve as the lead exhibiting potent anti-excitotoxic, ROS scavenging, and antioxidant activities. Further synthesis and evaluation will be necessary to confirm this possibility.
