숯첨가 사료 투여가 넙치에 미치는 영향을 알기 위하여, 넙치에 숯 1%, 3%, 5% 첨가사료를 8주간 투여하면서 성장, 혈액성분, 비특이적면역능을 분석하였으며 어병세균인 Edwardsiella tarda 균의 공격 시험에 대한 방어능을 조사하였다. 숯 첨가 사료 투여는 넙치의 성장과 라이소자임 활성에서는 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 못했지만, 5% 숯첨가구에서 혈액 중의 total protein과 cholesterol의 농도가 대조구에 비하여 낮게 나타났다. 그리고, 숯 3% 첨가구에서 두신 식세포의 활성 및 병원성 세균인 E. tarda에 대한 방어능도 가장 높게 나타났다. The charcoal effects on the immune responses of flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus were studied. Fish were fed an experimental diet supplemented with 1%, 3% or 5% of charcoal to a commercial diet. Several factors such as weight gain, hematological parameters, nonspecific immune responses and resistance against Edwardsiella tarda were evaluated 4 and 8 weeks after the administraion. The changes of body weight and lysozyme activities were not signigicant among tested groups. But cholesterol and total protein concentration in the blood were significantly lower in the 5% supplemented group than in the control. The production of superoxide by macrophage from the head kidney, examined by NBT reduction, was significantly higher in the 3% charcoal supplemented groups than in the control. The survival rate after an artificial challenge with 1×10^exp(7) cells of E. tarda per fish was significantly the highest in the 3% charcoal supplemented group.

Adjuvants are immune enhancers that are often used in vaccination to augment the immune response of a vaccine, thereby enhancing the protective immunity against the targeted disease. In the present study, we used the recombinant protein, such as rRbCC1, this protein was produced from rock bream CC chemokine 1. To verify the adjuvant effects of this recombinant protein, the immune responses of rock bream to Streptococcus iniae (S. iniae) FKC vaccination, which alone or in combination with recombinant protein was analyzed and then also performed experimental challenge with live S. iniae. The result of serum agglutination titres was showed relatively low levels however, the efficacy of FKC vaccine still conferred protection against S. iniae. Moreover, the adverse effects result showed that no statistically significant difference was revealed between high concentration injected and non-injected fish groups, generally. The relative percent survival (RPS) of FKC + recombinant vaccination group was significantly higher than that of vaccinated group with FKC alone. After experimental challenge to the rock bream by injection with live bacteria (S. iniae), the FKC + rRbCC1 vaccination group was showed 87.0% RPS, however, the RPS of FKC alone vaccination was 68.2%. The results indicated that the recombinant protein as an adjuvant had a clear synergism to injection vaccine of rock bream.

Purpose: There was a global increase in the prevalence of oseltamivir-resistant influenza viruses during the 2007-2008 influenza season. This study was conducted to investigate the occurrence and characteristics of oseltamivir-resistant influenza viruses during the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 influenza seasons among patients who were treated with oseltamivir (group A) and those that did not receive oseltamivir (group B). Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 321 pediatric patients who were hospitalized because of influenza during the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 influenza seasons. Drug resistance tests were conducted on influenza viruses isolated from 91 patients. Results: There was no significant difference between the clinical characteristics of groups A and B during both seasons. Influenza A/H1N1, isolated from both groups A and B during the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 periods, was not resistant to zanamivir. However, phenotypic analysis of the virus revealed a high oseltamivir $IC_{50}$ range and that H275Y substitution of the neuraminidase (NA) gene and partial variation of the hemagglutinin (HA) gene did not affect its antigenicity to the HA vaccine even though group A had a shorter hospitalization duration and fewer lower respiratory tract complications than group B. In addition, there was no significant difference in the clinical manifestations between oseltamivir-susceptible and oseltamivir-resistant strains of influenza A/H1N1. Conclusion: Establishment of guidelines to efficiently treat influenza with oseltamivir, a commonly used drug for treating influenza in Korean pediatric patients, and a treatment strategy with a new therapeutic agent is required.

In this study, a fish metabolic accelerator (a combination of butaphosphan and cyanocobalamin [BPC]) was injected into the muscle of the olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, to investigate its effect on immunity and stress in fish maintained at low temperatures. A single dose of BPC was injected (100 mg/kg body weight) into the olive flounder, and its immunity and stress were observed after one and two weeks. Immunity tests revealed the presence of lysozyme (LZM), nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT), myeloperoxidase (MPO), anti-protease (AP), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and total immunoglobulin (TIg). BPC injection was found to increase immunity activity compared to the control group. In particular, there was significantly high GPx activity. There was similarly high activity for MPO and GPx in the first week following the injection, followed by significant differences between the BPC-injected and control groups in the second week. There was a reduced low water-temperature stress response in the BPC-injected fish, as evidenced by the cortisol and glucose levels of the control and BPC groups. Lower levels were also observed in the BPC group than the control group during the second week. Cortisol levels were significantly lower in the BPC group than the control group. Histological examinations were conducted in the first and second weeks after the intramuscular injection of the recommended BPC dose to confirm the safety of BPC in aquaculture. There were no abnormalities observed in any tissue samples. This study confirms that the injection of BPC is safe even when used in a culture situation. BPC helps relieve stress and improves non-specific immune responses (innate immunity) in the olive flounder.

This study aims to identify the effects of cool roofs by investigating building models located in Changwon that have roofs constructed of various types of materials and colors. The building model roofs were comprised of white, green, and black waterproof paints; white, green, and black asphalt shingles; and rooftop vegetation. The surface temperatures of the building model roofs were measured from May 29-August 14. To identify roof characteristics, the flow of energy from roof surfaces to the ambient air, and the amount of energy accumulated on the roofs, were investigated. Reflectivity, emissivity, weather conditions and net radiant energy were measured during 9:00–15:00 on July 31, 2014. The reflectivity and emissivity of the white waterproof painted roof and the white asphalt shingle roof, the “cool roofs,” were higher than the other roofs, and their surface temperatures and net radiant energy were lower than the other roofs. The surface temperature of the white waterproof painted roof was lower than the green and the black waterproof painted roofs by a maximum of 25℃; the surface temperature of the white asphalt shingle roof was lower than the green and the black asphalt shingle roofs by a maximum of 19℃.

본 연구는 폭염 발생에 따라 증가하는 노후 건물의 냉방에너지를 감소하기 위하여 실제 건물에 쿨루프를 적용하여 레이어별 온도 감소를 계절별로 비교·분석하였다. 건물 실험은 2016년 8월부터 2018년 11월까지 실시되었으며, 조건이 거의 유사한 2개의 건물을 쿨루프 적용 건물과 미적용 건물로 구분하여 옥상표면온도, 천장표면온도, 천장 기온, 방 기온 데이터를 수집하였다. 쿨루프 효과를 계절별로 분석한 결과, 쿨루프 적용 시 모든 레이어의 온도가 감소하는 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 여름보다 겨울에 쿨루프 효과가 크게 나타나 쿨루프 적용을 위하여 사전에 해당지역의 기후, 건물의 물리적 특징(단열, 재질 등)을 고려해야 함을 확인할 수 있었다. 이후 실측 결과를 활용하여 모델링 결과를 보정한 뒤, 실험 건물의 냉방 및 난방 에너지 소비량을 비교·분석 하고자 한다.

The prenatal diagnosis of spina bifida includes the combined use of maternal serum α-fetoprotein (MSAFP) screening and fetal sonography. On ultrasonogram, spina bifida is characterized by visualization of the spinal defect and associated cranial abnomalities: the Lemon sign, the Banana sign, ventriculomegaly, small biparietal diameter, and obliteration of the cistema magna. We should now be able to rely on ultrasound as the main technique for diagnosis of spina bifida when MSAFP is elcvated. Recently, we have experienced three cases of spina bifida diagnosed with meningomyelocele, lemon sign, banana sign and ventriculomegaly on ultrasonogram at respectively 18^+3, 18, and 18^+6 weeks of gestation. We present these cases with a brief review of literatures.
