Abomasal impaction with cecal dilatation was diagnosed in a 3 years old holstein cow. The clinical signs were loss of appetite, scant feces and moderate distension of the abdomen. Ping sound was revealed in the right 11th intercostal space by auscultation. Cecal dilatation and abomasal impaction were ascertained by right flank laparotomy and abdominal exploration, and intestinal content and gas were removed from the cecal apex incised. One day later, 2.5㎏ of sand was removed by ventral paramedian abomasotomy.

We performed rumen fistula operation in a sheep. In sheep, the procedure for a rumen fistula is quite successful, but choice of an appropriate cannula is of prime importance. The sheep was anesthetized by xylazine(0.1 ㎎/㎏ IM) administration 5 minutes after administration of atropine sulfate(0.1 ㎎/㎏ IM). We inserted rubber cannula in rumen incised and put rubber ring after employing purse-string suture in rumen. We marked the area for the puncture incision in the body wall through which the cannula is drawn. We drew the cannula as near the transverse process of the lumbar vertebrae as possible to minimize leakage. We isolated the cannula by fixing the stainless washer which has small holes. The sheep was given postoperative penicillin(20,000 IU/㎏ IM) to prevent secondary infection for 3 days. There were not observed the leakage of rumen contents, the entering of rubber cannula into abdominal cavity, and necrosis on incision site and skin, over months after surgery.

엔드밀 절삭에서 Burr와 공구마멸 특성에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 엔드밀 절삭에서·버와 공구 마멸 특성에·관한 연구를 수행하였고 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 출구 버의 생성은 알루미늄에서 절삭 깊이 1.5mm에서 0.1mm의 버가 발생되었고 황동은 그 보다 높을 0.2mm의 버가 생성되었다. 또한 측면 버에서도 황동이 알루미늄보다 높은 값을 보였으며 이것은 절삭에서의 버의 생성이 재료의 특성에 크게 기인함을 알 수 있다. 공구 마멸은 버의 발생이 많은 황동에서 크레이터 마멸과 날끝 마멸이 많이 발생됨을 알 수 있다. In this study, the properties of burr and tool wear in endmill cutting have been studied and the following conclusions could be obtained. As experimental results. exit burr height were obtained as 0.1mm for aluminum and 0.2mm for brass under the condition of 1.5mm in cut depth. And also side burr height for brass was higher than aluminum. It was found from the experimental results that burr formation in cutting largely depend on mechanical properties of machined materials. Tool wear properties of the brass, including crater wear and cutting edge wear, were also investigated.

In hematology and blood chemistry, the presence of microfilariae in the blood. anemia, leukocytosis, hemoglobinuria and jaundice were revealed. In ultrasonography, heartworms were found in the right ventricle artery and pulmonary artery as structures of hyperechoic dots or streaks. Because of the dog's poor physical status, the owner requested euthanasia. In autopsy, fifty odd of heartworms were ascertained in the right ventricle and pulmonary artery. Tricuspid valve in the orifice of right ventricle and right atrium, and chordae tendineae were deliquesced.

In dorsal laminectomy for the surgical treatment of thoracolumbar disc disease in dog, the bur could slip into the vertebral canal. For the decrease of this probability of danger, osteotome was used with instruments such as bur and rongeur in dorsal laminectomy. At thoracic vertebrae (T10-T11) and lumbar vertebrae (L5-L6) area, dorsal laminectomys were performed in a dog. In observation for 3 months after surgery, the dog revealed healthy physical condition. For the confirmation of healing condition at 3 months after dorsal laminectomy, two surgical sites were exposed by incision. Excellent healing response was observed with no adhesion and fibrosis in the vertebral canal.

Acupuncture is used to treat pathological conditions and to prevent pain from arising. The pathological conditions that can be treated can be painless or painful conditions. Acupuncture analgesia (AA) is a specific form of acupuncture; the stimulation of the acupuncture points must be strong and long (about 15 to 30 minutes) before a local or general analgesia or hypalgesia will develop. Development of modern AA began in the late fifties. Effectiveness of acupuncture in alleviation of pain was quickly noticed and brought to the medical researchers and surgeons. Through their diligent pursuit, AA has been established as a viable alternative for relief of pain and substitution of conventional anesthesia. In veterinary medicine. early successful applications of AA to surgery of domestic animals were reported in the late sixties. Local or regional anesthesia is often preferred to general anesthesia in cattle. Acupuncture was effective in inducing analgesia. Regional electroacupuncture analgesia is potentially useful for standing surgeries in cattle. Some standing surgeries may be easily accomplished using electroacupuncture anesthesia.

Pain modification is an important part of traditional acupuncture therapies. However, the idea of using acupuncture to alleviate pain has been greatly expanded in the last four decades. It has reached the level that acupuncture may be used as a substitute for conventional anesthesia. Surgical analgesia can be produced by methods involving peripheral or central stimulation, such as Acupuncture Analgesia (AA). The most common method is Electro-Acupuncture Analgesia (EAA). using a special electrostimulator attached to needles in acupuncture points. The major advantages of AA or EAA are its safety in high-risk patients and excellent post-operative pain relief, freedom from complications and enhanced healing which follows surgery under AA. The major disadvantages are the long induction period (10-40 minutes) and variable degrees of analgesia, even in skilled hands. The mechanisms of AA Involve stimulation of peripheral sensory nerve, spinal cord and supraspinal areas (thalamus, midbrain and hypothalamus) AA can be used effectively in dog. The method has its advantage, and disadvantages.

페디그리 사료 섭취에 의한 급성신부전증의 치료 1례

A 4 years old male poodle dog with gastro-intestinal distress was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. The patient was presented with history of vomiting, hemorrhagic diarrhea and inappetence. Laboratory evaluation revealed that WBC (23.8 x 10^(3)/㎕). BUN (87.9 ㎎/㎗), creatinine (7.3 ㎎/㎗) and phosphate (9.6 ㎎/㎗) was elevated, and proteinuria, hematuria and bilirubinuria were detected on urinalysis. Increased renal cortical echogenicity and parenchymal calcification of kidney were observed by ultrasonography. Based on the findings of history, clinical signs, laboratory assessment and ultrasonography, it was diagnosed as acute renal failure. The present patient showed favorable therapeutic response by fluid therapy. diuretics, peritoneal dialysis and blood transfusion.
