      • Rifampicin에 의한 것으로 추정되는 위막성 대장염1예

        Pseudomembranous colitis, caused by altering the normal colonic flora and allowing the multiplication of Clostridium difficile, is an deleterious adverse effect of antibiotics. But it is rarely reported by rifampicin. Rifampicin is one of the first line drug in the treatment of tuberculosis and many patients are exposed to its potential adverse effects. We experienced a patient that had abdominal discomfort and hematochezia due to pseudomembranous colitis after receiving antituberculous medication, and which was probably caused by rifampicin. A 82 years old man was admitted with abdominal discomfort and hematochezia for one week. On the past history he had been diagnosed as endobronchial tuberculosis about 4 months ago. Colonoscopy revealed multiple discrete whitish mucosal lesion on rectosigmoid colon, and histologic findings were consistent with pseudomembranous colitis. The antituberculous agents were discontinued and vancomycin was administered. The patient's symptoms were resolved within several days. There was no recurrence after reinstitution of the antituberculous agents excluding rifampicin. We report here on a case of pseudomembranous colitis probably due to rifampicin.

        Tracheobronchopathia osteoplastica is a rare disorder of unknown cause characterized by the projection of numerous bony or cartilaginous submucosal nodules into the tracheobronchial lumen with sparing of the posterior membranous portion of tracheobronchial tree. In the past, most of the cases were diagnosed as secondary finding at autopsy. Nowaday, the key component of the evaluation is flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, which typically demonstrates irregular spicules of subrnucosal bone and cartilage projecting into the tracheobronchial lumen and causing various degrees of airway obstruction. A 45 years old man was visited Sunchon St. Carollo hospital due to discomfort on throat. We saw several nodules just below vocal cord via laryngoscope. The computed tomography revealed multiple small calcified nqdules on trachea and both main bronchi. Pathologic finding of bronchoscopic biopsy showed abnormal proliferation of bony and cartilagious nodules in the tracheal submucosa. These fingdings were consistent with tracheobronchopathia osteoplastica. We report here on a case of tracheobronchopathia osteoplastica with review of literature.

        CASE REPORT : Two dislodged and crushed coronary stents: treatment of two simultaneously dislodged stents using crushing techniques

        Coronary stent dislodgement is a rare complication of percutaneous coronary intervention. We report a rare case of dislodgement of two intracoronary stents. On withdrawal of two balloon catheters, one with a guide wire was mechanically distorted from the left main (LM) to the proximal left anterior descending artery (LAD) while the other was dislodged from the LM to the ostial left circumflex ar-tery. The stent in the LAD could not be retrieved into the guide catheter using a Goose neck snare, because it was caught on a previously deployed stent at the mid LAD. A new stent was quickly deployed from the LM to the proximal LAD, be-cause the patient developed cardiogenic shock. Both stents, including a distorted and elongated stent, were crushed to the LM wall. Stent deployment and crushing may be a good alternative technique to retrieving a dislodged stent.

      • Radiation impacts on morphological and qualitative properties in common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) and tatary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) seeds

        Breeding and cultivation techniques are being treated very severely regarding ecological and physiological development in buckwheat. This study was conducted to focus on the diversity occurring in the cultivated and tartary buckwheat and provide an overview of the characteristics and genetic resources activities. Morphological results showed that the height of common buckwheat ranges from 82-90cm, common buckwheat induced by 200Gy ranges from 52-75cm, common buckwheat induced by 300Gy ranges from 43-56cm, common buckwheat induced by 400Gy ranges from 33-60cm whereas the tartary buckwheat hight ranges from 65-87cm, and while it exposed to various radiation (200Gy, 300Gy and 400Gy), the obtained height ranges from 73-92cm, 55-80cm and 60-75cm respectively. However, the stems from the both cultivar are hollow and that’s why, the plant is very prone to lodging. The leaf color of common buckwheat was green, 200Gray, 300Gy 400Gy common buckwheat light green and green, whereas the tartary buckwheat green and bottle-green, 200Gray 300Gy 400Gy tatary buckwheat bottle-green, common buckwheat (control, 200Gy, 300Gy, 400Gy) stem color is light green and pink, flower color is white, tartary buckwheat (control, 200Gy, 300Gy, 400Gy) flower color is light green. The stem color from tartary buckwheat showed (200Gy, 300Gy, 400Gy) light green and light red color. The results revealed that the two buckwheat cultivars showed diversified characteristics.

        DEVELOPMENT OF THE PARTICULATE MATTER SENSOR FOR DIESEL ENGINE

        This paper proposes a development of the low-cost and capacitance measurement particulate matter (PM) sensor to monitor diesel particulate filter (DPF) failure. Compared to the resistance measurement PM sensor that is affected by ash accumulated between electrodes due to periodic PM regeneration, capacitance measurement method has the advantage of compensating with capacitance measurement even though the initial ash is present. To reduce the manufacturing cost, we fabricated the proposed sensor with alumina instead of zirconia as the substrate and reduced the sensing area by 26 % compared to the conventional PM sensor. As a result of evaluation, the response time of 5 min required to reach a threshold 50pF at the exhaust gas flow rate of 70 kg/h and PM concentration of 10 mg/m3. It is similar to the conventional PM sensor which takes 343 sec. Durability of the alumina-based PM sensor investigated through thermal endurance test, and the sensor features (C0, R0heater and response time) indicated no significant difference before and after the test.

        The Effect of Fe in Perovskite Catalysts for Steam CO<sub>2</sub> Reforming of Methane

        <P>In this work, La0.95Sr0.05N1-xFexO3 catalysts were prepared by modified EDTA-cellulose method and the catalysts were characterized by various techniques such as N-2 physisorption, TPR, XRD, SEM, TEM-EDS and TG analysis. La(0.5)Sro NiO5Fe0.5O3 catalyst showed better catalytic performance under the reaction conditions of 900 degrees C, 21 bar and feed molar ratio of CH4:CO2:H2O = 1:0.7:1.5. It is considered that the dilution effect on nickel prevented the formation of large monometallic ensembles that favour the carbon deposition in reforming reactions, and the mean metallic particle size of Ni decreased with increasing substitution rate in B site. Therefore, partial substitution of Fe in B site enhances the dilution effect and induces a reaction between CO2 and La2O3, thereby resisting the carbon deposition and increasing CO2 conversion.</P>

      • Injury of the Thalamocingulate Tract in the Papez Circuit in Patients with Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

        <P>The thalamocingulate tract between the anterior thalamic nuclei and the cingulate gyrus is a part of the Papez circuit. Using diffusion tensor tractography, injury of the thalamocingulate tract was investigated in patients with mild traumatic brain injury. Two patients (patient 1: a 58-yr-old woman and patient 2: a 49-yr-old man) with head trauma resulting from a car accident were enrolled. They were classified as mild traumatic brain injury and no specific lesion was observed on brain magnetic resonance imaging. These patients complained of memory impairment after head trauma. The entire Papez circuits, including thalamocingulate tract, fornix, mammillothalamic tract, and cingulum, were reconstructed in both hemispheres except for the left thalamocingulate tract: patient 1, it was thinner and discontinued compared with the right thalamocingulate tract; and patient 2, it was not reconstructed. The injury of the left thalamocingulate tract appeared to be related to the memory impairment in these patients.</P>

        Background: Individuals with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) have an increased risk of cardiovascular diseaserelated morbidity and mortality. However, as NAFLD share common risk factors with metabolic syndrome, and as metaboilc syndrome is closely related to cardiovascular disease-related morbidity and mortality, it remains unclear whether NAFLD serves as an independent predictor for developing cardiovascular disease. We assessed whether ultrasonographically detected-NAFLD (US-NAFLD) can help identify individuals at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in metabolic syndromefree individuals. Methods: A total of 4,639 metabolic syndrome-free health check-up participants (age = 53.2 ± 9.4, male = 3,856 (83.1%)) who had abdominal ultrasonography and carotid artery ultrasonography were analyzed. Carotid plaque, known as an early predictor for developing cardiovascular disease, was assessed and defined when intima-media thickness > 1.5 mm in any carotid segment. Results: US-NAFLD was noticed in 1,770 (38.2%) individuals, and carotid plaque was more prevalent in individuals with NAFLD than without NAFLD (48.5% vs. 38.4%, p<0.001). US-NAFLD was independently associated with the presence of carotid plaque [adjusted odd ratio (95% confidence interval): 1.63 (1.42 - 1.87), p<0.001, adjusted for age, each component of metabolic syndrome, and serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) level]. US-NAFLD combined with serum GGT level showed a fine correlation with the presence of carotid plaque in both young (<50 years, 34.8%, 26.5%, 22.4% and 19.2% for individuals with US-NAFLD/GGT (+/+),US-NAFLD/ GGT (+/-), US-NAFLD/GGT (-/+) and US-NAFLD/GGT (-/-), respectively) and old people (≥ 50 years, 61.7%, 59.9%, 54.2% and 45.3% for individuals with US-NAFLD/GGT (+/+), USNAFLD/ GGT (+/-), US-NAFLD/GGT (-/+) and US-NAFLD/ GGT (-/-) respectively). Conclusions: US-NAFLD combined with serum GGT level predicts the risk of cardiovascular disease in individuals without metabolic syndrome.

      • Combined steam and CO<sub>2</sub> reforming of methane over La<sub>1-x</sub>Sr<sub>x</sub>NiO<sub>3</sub> perovskite oxides

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The effect of Sr addition to LaNiO<SUB>3</SUB> perovskite catalysts was studied for the steam-CO<SUB>2</SUB> reforming of methane. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicate that different ionic radii caused distortion of the perovskite lattice and produced alien phases such as La<SUB>2-x</SUB>Sr<SUB>x</SUB>NiO<SUB>3±δ</SUB> and Sr<SUB>0.5</SUB>La<SUB>1.5</SUB>NiO<SUB>4</SUB>. Moreover, these different phases affected reduction behavior. The influence of Sr mainly appeared in the steam-CO<SUB>2</SUB> reforming of methane reaction. SrO species adsorbed CO<SUB>2</SUB> during the reaction and produced SrCO<SUB>3</SUB>, which has a better ability of eliminating carbon sources by producing La<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB>, and by this means, carbon formation was significantly suppressed. However, the addition of Sr species covered the support sites leading to large-sized nickel particles by reducing the interaction between the support and active metals, thus the catalytic activity was decreased by an increase in Sr concentration on the catalysts. Therefore, we recommend using a small amount of Sr in the perovskite-based catalysts to obtain superior resistance to carbon deposition with moderate catalytic activity.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> La<SUB>1-x</SUB>Sr<SUB>x</SUB>NiO<SUB>3</SUB> was prepared by EDTA-cellulose method. </LI> <LI> Each catalyst showed different physicochemical properties. </LI> <LI> Sr played role as increase in basicity and suppression of carbon formation. </LI> <LI> La<SUB>0.9</SUB>Sr<SUB>0.1</SUB>NiO<SUB>3</SUB> showed moderate catalytic activity and good resistance to carbon formation. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Preparation and characterization of Ni-based perovskite catalyst for steam CO2 reforming of methane.

        <P>Steam CO2 reforming of methane was investigated over Ni-based perovskite catalyst to produce desired H2/CO ratio by adjusting the feed ratio of CH4, CO2 and H2O for floating GTL process application. La modified perovskites were prepared by the Pechini method and calcined in air and the Ni-based catalysts were prepared by dispersing Ni on the La modified perovskite by an incipient wetness impregnation. The catalysts before and after the reaction were characterized by N2 physisoprtion, CO chemisoprtion, XRD, TPR and SEM techniques. To control desired H2/CO ratio, simulation for SCR was carried out by Aspen plus, and product distribution for SCR was investigated in a fixed bed reactor system using feed ratio estimated by simulation. The Ni-based perovskite catalysts were found to give CH4 and CO2 conversions of up to 82% and 60% respectively to yield a H2/CO product ratio close to 2.</P>
