Research on the Characteristic of Diesel Elastic-plate Impingement Spray

A series of experimental research results on the characteristic of diesel elastic-plate impingement spray using High Speed Photography camera are presented in this paper. The experiments were carried out in a constant volume chamber specially designed, which can hold a high ambiance pressure. The special fixed device was designed so that the elastic-plate can be fixed on the spray path, meanwhile the spray incident angle and height can be changed. The free jet spray and elastic-plate impingement spray was compared under the same experimental condition including different injection pressure and different background pressure. Experimental research showed that impingement spray droplets diffuse more quickly than free jet spray.
A Unified Authentication Scheme Based on Analytic Mechanism

To resolve security issues and management issues of different Certificate Authorities (CAs), this paper proposed a unified authentication scheme, which will make different Certificate Authorities (CAs) be uniformly authenticated. In addition, it showed the whole structure of the scheme, added an extensional registration number to certificates and designed unified authentication process for the scheme. The unified authentication process was modelled and simulated by Coloured Petri Net (CPN) Tools and verified by analyzing the state space of CPN model. In conclusion, this paper provides a unified authentication service and confirms that the proposed scheme is totally controllable, realizable and feasible. The suggested scheme can enhance the efficiency and security of authentication systems and achieve good results in practical applications.

<P>RATIONALE: The low efficiency of conventional therapies in achieving long-term survival of patients with lung cancer calls for the development of novel therapeutic options. Recent advances in aerosol-mediated gene delivery have provided the possibility of an alternative for the safe and effective treatment of lung cancer. OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate the feasibility and emphasize the importance of noninvasive aerosol delivery of Akt1 small interfering RNA (siRNA) as an effective and selective option for lung cancer treatment. METHODS: Nanosized poly(ester amine) polymer was synthesized and used as a gene carrier. An aerosol of poly(ester amine)/Akt1 siRNA complex was delivered into K-ras(LA1) and urethane-induced lung cancer models through a nose-only inhalation system. The effects of Akt1 siRNA on lung cancer progression and Akt-related signals were evaluated. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: The aerosol-delivered Akt1 siRNA suppressed lung tumor progression significantly through inhibiting Akt-related signals and cell cycle. CONCLUSIONS: The use of poly(ester amine) serves as an effective carrier, and aerosol delivery of Akt1 siRNA may be a promising approach for lung cancer treatment and prevention.</P>
Flatness Measurement of a Mosaic Focal Plane by using a Coaxial Multispectral Laser

The wide-field telescope will be an important tool in the discovery and birth of new theories of astronomy in future. The detectors in this kind of telescope mostly adopt a mosaic focal plane array. The focal depth of a large-F-number optical system is very small, and the flatness of the mosaic detector should be less than half the focal depth. In this paper, a new flatness measurement and data processing method is developed. A flatness measurement platform composed of a high-precision gantry platform and a coaxial multispectral displacement meter was built. The flatness of a single detector was measured under uncooled and cooled working conditions, and data processing was conducted, in which the root mean square (RMS) and the peak–valley (PV) values of the cooled detector were 0.0017 mm and 0.0112 mm, respectively. Next, a 2 × 6 mosaic model of the focal plane with a dimension of 148.5 mm × 168.5 mm was built using a metal detector model. The measurement platform was used to measure the flatness of the mosaic focal plane. According to the measurement results, the preliminary installation and mosaic adjustment were completed. The final RMS and PV values of the mosaic focal plane are 0.009 mm and 0.0808 mm, respectively. The experimental results show that the measurement and the data processing method can accurately reflect surface information on the detectors. This suggests that the method has great potential for use in ensuring the accuracy of wide-field telescope equipment in all applicable research areas.

Fangchinoline (Fan) inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in several cancer cell lines. The effects of Fan on cell growth and proliferation in breast cancer cells remain to be elucidated. Here, we show that Fan inhibited cell proliferation in the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell line through suppression of the AKT/Gsk-3beta/cyclin D1 signaling pathway. Furthermore, Fan induced apoptosis by increasing the expression of Bax (relative to Bcl-2), active caspase 3 and cytochrome-c. Fan significantly inhibited cell proliferation of MDA-MB-231 cells in a concentration and time dependent manner as determined by MTT assay. Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated that Fan treatment of MDA-MB-231 cells resulted in cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase, which correlated with apparent downregulation of both mRNA and protein levels of both PCNA and cyclin D1. Further analysis demonstrated that Fan decreased the phosphorylation of AKT and GSK-3beta. In addition, Fan up-regulated active caspase3, cytochrome-c protein levels and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2, accompanied by apoptosis. Taken together, these results suggest that Fan is a potential natural product for the treatment of breast cancer.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>High quality Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> anode films were deposited by radio-frequency co-sputtering Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> and Li<SUB>2</SUB>O targets on Pt-coated stainless steel substrates. The use of an additional Li<SUB>2</SUB>O target not only compensated the lithium content in the resulting layers but also decreased the impurity content. Consequently, the electrochemical properties of the Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> anode exhibited better electrochemical properties than an identical film prepared using a single Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> target. Upon annealing, the co-sputtering Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> showed a relatively high discharge capacity of 618 mAh/cm<SUP>3</SUP> (theoretical specific capacity of 598.5 mAh/cm<SUP>3</SUP>) at a current density of 0.1 C. Also, superior high rate capability with a discharge capacity of 309 mAh/cm<SUP>3</SUP> at 20 C was observed, accompanied by an excellent cycling stability, with a capacity retention ratio exceeding 94% after 500 cycles at 1 C. The co-sputtering using Li<SUB>2</SUB>O target is most likely to have enhanced the electrochemical properties of the pure Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> anode.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Co-sputtering of Li<SUB>2</SUB>O and Li<SUB>4</SUB>Ti<SUB>5</SUB>O<SUB>12</SUB> target during the growth of LTO anode layer. </LI> <LI> The growth of high purity spinel LTO film by accommodating Li<SUB>2</SUB>O into Li deficient sites. </LI> <LI> LTO exhibits superior electrochemical performance with excellent rate capability and cycling performance. </LI> </UL> </P>

The use of yeast assist kefir fermentation, but also can cause food spoilage if uncontrolled. Hence, in this study, the microbial composition of an existing commercial kefir starter was modified to produce a functional starter, where Lactobacillus acidophilus KCNU and Lactobacillus brevis Bmb6 were used to replace yeast in the original starter to produce non-yeast kefir-like fermented milk. The functional starter containing L. acidophilus KCNU and L. brevis Bmb6 demonstrated excellent stability with 1010 CFU/g of total viable cells throughout the 12 weeks low-temperature storage. The newly developed functional starter also displayed a similar fermentation efficacy as the yeastcontaining control starter, by completing the milk fermentation within 12 h, with a comparable total number of viable cells (108 CFU/mL) in the final products, as in control. Sensory evaluation revealed that the functional starter-fermented milk highly resembled the flavor of the control kefir, with enhanced sourness. Furthermore, oral administration of functional starter-fermented milk significantly improved the disease activity index score by preventing drastic weight-loss and further deterioration of disease symptoms in DSS-induced mice. Altogether, L. acidophilus KCNU and L. brevis Bmb6 have successfully replaced yeast in a commercial starter pack to produce a kefir-like fermented milk beverage with additional health benefits. The outcome of this study provides an insight that the specific role of yeast in the fermentation process could be replaced with suitable probiotic candidates.
