        The principal purpose of the electrostatic precipitator in the cement industry is prevention of air pollution and collection of valuable materials escaping from the whole processes. Among the various conditions which E.P. performance depends upon, the high resistivity of the particles is the main deteriorating factor. In order to improve the E.P. performance, humidification system that controls the resistivity with moisture is used in general. In this paper, some studies are made on the humidication system using two-fluid nozzles at E.P. inlet as well as on the cause of the E.P. troubles and their counter-measures.

        Methamphetamine (MAP) is a well known psychostimulant. It has been reported that MAP induces release of various neurotransmitters from brain regions, and is capable of enhancement of cognitive function. Cerebrocortical serotonergic system is involved in memory process. We examined the mechamism of MAP-induced [³H]5-hydroxytryptamine ([³H]5-HT) release in rat hippocampal slices. MAP induced the release of [³H]5-HT in a dose dependent manner (1-300 цM). At 10 цM concentration of MAP, [³H]5-HT was released over 400% of resting period. In the presence of 1 цM yohimbine, MAP-induced [³H]5-HT release potentiated. MAP-induced [³H]5-HT release was not inhibited by 1 цM tetrodotoxin, indicating the action site of MAP is located on the presynaptic terminal. MAP-induced [³H]NE release was not altered by voltage-sensitive calcium channel blockers (nitrendipine, ω-conotoxin GVIA and ω-agatoxin IVA). Fluoxetine (1 цM), a selective 5-HT transporter blocker, significantly inhibited MAP-induced [³H]5-HT release. MAP-induced [³H]5-HT release was inhibited by MK-801 (10 цM), but not by D-AP5 or DNQX. Also, MAP failed to stimulate the release of [³H]aspartate even in 100 цM. MAP-induced release of [³H]NE was reduced by inhibitors of nitric oxide (NO) synthase, 7-nitroindazole (10 цM) and L-NMMA (300 Цm), and potentiated by cGMP phosphodiesterase inhibitor, zaprinast (30 цm). Our results suggest that MAP induces 5-HT release by reversal of transporter which is located in presynaptic terminal, and that NO is involved in this process.

        Prestroke Antiplatelet Effect on Symptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage and Functional Outcome in Intravenous Thrombolysis

        Background and Purpose About 30%-40% of stroke patients are taking antiplatelet at the time of their strokes, which might increase the risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (SICH) with intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (IV-TPA) therapy. We aimed to assess the effect of prestroke antiplatelet on the SICH risk and functional outcome in Koreans treated with IV-TPA. Methods From a prospective stroke registry, we identified patients treated with IV-TPA between October 2009 and November 2014. Prestroke antiplatelet use was defined as taking antiplatelet within 7 days before the stroke onset. The primary outcome was SICH. Secondary outcomes were discharge modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score and in-hospital mortality. Results Of 1,715 patients treated with IV-TPA, 441 (25.7%) were on prestroke antiplatelet. Prestroke antiplatelet users versus non-users were more likely to be older, to have multiple vascular risk factors. Prestroke antiplatelet use was associated with an increased risk of SICH (5.9% vs. 3.0%; adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.79 [1.05-3.04]). However, at discharge, the two groups did not differ in mRS distribution (adjusted OR 0.90 [0.72-1.14]), mRS 0-1 outcome (34.2% vs. 33.7%; adjusted OR 1.27 [0.94-1.72), mRS 0-2 outcome (52.4% vs. 52.9%; adjusted OR 1.21 [0.90-1.63]), and in-hospital mortality (6.1% vs. 4.2%; adjusted OR 1.19 [0.71-2.01]). Conclusions Despite an increased risk of SICH, prestroke antiplatelet users compared to non-users had comparable functional outcomes and in-hospital mortality with IV-TPA therapy. Our results support the use of IV-TPA in eligible patients taking antiplatelet therapy before their stroke onset.

        The Prevalence Rate of Tuberculin Skin Test Positive by Contacts Group to Predict the Development of Active Tuberculosis After School Outbreaks

        Background: The tuberculin skin test (TST) is the standard tool to diagnose latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in mass screening. The aim of this study is to find an optimal cut-off point of the TST+ rate within tuberculosis (TB) contacts to predict the active TB development among adolescents in school TB outbreaks. Methods: The Korean National Health Insurance Review and Assessment database was used to identify active TB development in relation to the initial TST (cut-off, 10 mm). The 7,475 contacts in 89 schools were divided into two groups: Incident TB group (43 schools) and no incident TB group (46 schools). LTBI treatment was initiated in 607 of the 1,761 TST+ contacts. The association with active TB progression was examined at different cut-off points of the TST+ rate. Results: The mean duration of follow-up was 3.9±0.9 years. Thirty-three contacts developed active TB during the 4,504 person-years among the TST+ contacts without LTBI treatment (n=1,154). The average TST+ rate for the incident TB group (n=43) and no incident TB group (n=46) were 31.0% and 15.5%, respectively. The TST+ rate per group was related with TB progression (odds ratio [OR], 1.025; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001-1.050; p=0.037). Based on the TST+ rate per group, active TB was best predicted at TST+ ≥ 16% (OR, 3.11; 95% CI, 1.29-7.51; area under curve, 0.64). Conclusion: Sixteen percent of the TST+ rate per group within the same grade students can be suggested as an optimal cut-off to predict active TB development in middle and high schools TB outbreaks.

        Cyclooxygenase-2 Induction in Porphyromonas gingivalis-Infected THP-1 Monocytic Cells

        Periodontopathogens including Porphyromonas gingivalis interact with host periodontal cells and the excessive subsequent host responses contribute a major part to the development of periodontal diseases. Cyclooxygenase (COX)-2-synthesized PGE_(2) has detrimental activities in terms of periodontal pathogenesis. The present study investigated induction of COX-2 expression by P. gingivalis in human monocytic THP-1 cells. Live P. gingivalis increased expression of COX-2, but not that of COX-1, which was demonstrated at both mRNA and protein levels. Elevated levels of PGE_(2) were released from P. gingivalis-infected THP-1 cells. Pharma-cological inhibition of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) substantially attenuated P. gingivalis-induced COX-2 mRNA expression. Indeed, activation of p38 MAPK and ERK was observed in P. gingivalis-infected THP-1 cells. Also, P. gingivalis induced activation of nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) which is an important transcription factor for COX-2. These results suggest that COX-2 expression is upregulated in P. gingivalis-infected monocytic cells, at least in part, via p38 MAPK, ERK, and NF-kB.

        제주 팽림월대(彭林月臺)의 경관특성 및 관리방안

        본 연구는 제주시 한림읍 소재 명월대와 명월숲의 생태문화경관적 특성 파악과 가치 발굴을 목적으로 시도되었다. 이를 위해 이곳의 장소성을 밝히고 명월대와 명월숲의 경관특성을 조명하는 한편 지속가능한 활용과 보존을 위한 관리방안을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 명월성과 명월포구는 예로부터 군사요새이자, 명월 수류촌은 서부 제주지역 행정의 중심지인 한림읍 명월지역의 위상을 보여줄 뿐 아니라 명월지역에 존재했던 월계정사와 우학당은 교육문화의 본산으로, 교육 중심지 명월리의 장소성을 대변한다. 명월대는 조선시대 선비들이 시와 풍월을 즐기고, 장기와 바둑을 두던 유풍이 남아있는 음풍농월의 현장이자 제주도의 대표적인 유교 문화경관이다. 현재의 명월대 유구는 일제강점기인 1931년 홍종시(洪鍾時)를 중심으로 한 명월청년회 주도로 이루어진 정비사업의 결과이다. 사각형-팔각형-원형 등 3단으로 구성된 명월대의 석축 구성은 유교사상의 천인합일사상을 바탕으로, 중앙의 팔각은 천원지방(天圓地方)의 의미를 부여한 것으로 보인다. 한편 명월대교와 명월교는 모두 초기에는 홍예교로 석축된 것으로 추정되며 명월교는 제주에 남아있는 유일한 홍예교로 근대문화유산적 가치가 있다. 명월숲의 식물상은 총 97분류군(taxa)이 확인되었으며, ``식물구계학적 특정식물종의 분류군 및 등급기준``에 준하면 Ⅳ등급에는 가는쇠고사리, Ⅲ등급에 호랑가시나무, 후추등, 까마귀쪽나무, 멀구슬나무, 산유자나무, 노랑하늘타리, 아욱메풀, 아왜나무 등 8분류군으로 나타났다. 반면에 귀화식물은 제주도에만 이입된 솔잎미나리를 비롯하여 14분류군이 확인되었다. 명월숲에는 팽나무 41주와 푸조나무 30주, 산유자나무 2주, 소나무, 동백나무, 멀구슬나무, 호랑가시나무 각각 1주 등 도합 77그루의 수목이 군락을 이루고 있다. 조사된 자료를 근거로 명월대와 명월숲의 보존관리방안은 다음과 같다. 명월대와 명월교 그리고 명월숲을 하나의 통합 영역으로 한 보존관리가 필수적이다. 명월교는 제주도내에서는 찾아보기 어려운 홍예교로 수준 높은 석공예물로 장기적인 보존방안이 마련되어야 할 것이다. 한편 교량노후화로 인해 사고위험에 노출되고, 안전진단이 요구되는 명월대교는 정밀안전진단 결과에 따른 대책이 요구된다. 재시공시 초건 시의 모습인 2수문의 완벽한 홍예교로 건립하여 명월대와 함께 향후 대표적 지역 명소로 보존 및 활용해야 할 것을 건의한다. 또한 조사결과에 근거한 종조성으로 볼 때 현재 제주특별자치도 기념물 제19호 ``명월 팽나무군락``의 명칭은 ``명월 팽나무-푸조나무군락``으로 재고되어야 할 것이다. 그리고 팽나무와 푸조나무 구분 없이 이루어진 일련번호 체계는 개선되어야 하며 노거수목 및 특정식물종이나 귀화종에 대해서는 생육상태에 대한 주기적인 모니터링이 요구된다. This study was conducted to identify the spacialty, to illuminate the existence and values of Myeongwoldae(明月臺) and Forest Myeongwol, and to suggest the sustainable usage, preservation and management plans with the purpose of ecological and cultural landscaping characteristic and value identification. The result of the study is as follows. Castle Myeongwol and Port Myeongwol shows the status of Hallim-eup Myeongwol District which is the administrative center of western Jeju as well as is the fortress. Building Wolgyejeongsa and School Woohakdang, the head temple of education and culture, located in Myeongwol District represents the spaciality of Myeonwol-ri which was the center of education. Stand Myeongwol is one of the most representative Confucian cultural landscapes in Jeju Island and the field of communion with nature where scholars enjoy poetries, nature, changgi(Korean chess), and go in the Joseon Dynasty period. It was found that the current relics of Myeongwoldae was recovered through the maintenance project conducted by Youth Group Myeongwol composed with Hongjong-si(洪鍾時) as the center during the Japanese colonial era in 1931. It seems that the stonework of Myeongwoldae composed of three levels in the order of square, octagon, and circle based on the heaven-man unity theory of Confucianism and the octagon in the middle is the messenger of Cheonwonjibang(天圓地方), in other words, between the square-shaped earth and the circle-shaped sky. It is assumed that both Grand Bridge Myeongwol and Bridge Myeongwol were constructed as arched bridges in early days. Bridge Myeongwol is the only arched bridge remaining in Jeju Island now, which has the modern cultural heritage value. In Forest Myeongwol, 97 taxa of plants were confirmed and in accordance with ’Taxonomic Group and Class Criteria of Floristic Specific Plants’, eight taxa were found; Arachniodes aristata of FD Ⅳ and Ilex cornuta, Piper kadsura, Litsea japonica, Melia azedarach, Xylosma congestum, Richosanthes kirilowii var. japonica, Dichondra repens, Viburnum odoratissimum var. awabuki of FD Ⅲ. Otherwise, 14 taxa of naturalized plants including Apium leptophylihum which is imported to Jeju Island only were confirmed. In Forest Myeongwol, 77 trees including 41 Celtis sinensis, 30 Aphananthe aspera, two Wylosma congestum, a Pinus densiflora, a Camellia japonica, a Melia azedarach, and an Ilex cornuta form a colony. Based on the researched data, the preservation and plans of Myeongwoldae and Forest Myeongwol is suggested as follows. Myeongwoldae, Bridge Myeongwol, and Forest Myeongwol should be managed as one integrated division. Bridge Myeongwol, an arched bridge which is hard to be found in Jeju Island is a high-standard stonework requiring long-term preservation plans. Otherwise, Grand Bridge Myeongwol that is exposed to accident risks because of deterioration and needs safety diagnosis requires measures according to the result of precise safety diagnosis. It is desirable to restore it to a two-sluice arched bridge as its initial shape and to preserve and use it as a representative local landmark with Stand Myeongwol. In addition, considering the topophsis based on the analysis result, the current name of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Monument No. 19 ’Myoengwol Hackberry Colony’ should change to ‘Myeongwol Hackberry-Muku Tree Colony’. In addition, the serial number system which is composed without distinction of hackberry and muku tree should be improved and the regular monitoring of big and old trees, specific plants, and naturalized species is required.

        회소돌기아교세포에 있어서 메틸수은에 의해 유도된 신경독성에 대한 glutathione의 영향

        에틸수은 (methylmecury, MM) 이 소의 배양 희소돌기아교세포에 미치는 신경독성효과를 규명하기 위하여 여러 농도의 methylmercuric chloride (MMC)가 들어있는 배양액에서 신경세포를 24시간 동안 배양한 다음 이에 대한 신경특성을 MTT 분석법에 의하여 조사하였으며 또한 MMC에 의한 옥성효과에 대하여 항산화제의 방어효과를 분석 하였다. MMC는 처리한 농도와 시간에 비례하여 소의 배양 희소돌기아교세포의 생존율을 강소시켰으며 glutathione이 MMC에 의해 유도된 신경독성을 방어하였다. 이상의 경파로 부터 MM은 소의 배양 희소돌기아교세포에 독성을 나타냈으며 glutathione과 같은 선택적인 항산화제가 MM에 의한 신경독성을 방어하는데 매우 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.
