Discovery of urinary metabolomic biomarkers for early detection of acute kidney injury

<P>The discovery of new biomarkers for early detection of drug-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is clinically important. In this study, sensitive metabolomic biomarkers identified in the urine of rats were used to detect cisplatin-induced AKI. Cisplatin (10 mg kg(-1), i.p.) was administered to Sprague-Dawley rats, which were subsequently euthanized after 1, 3 or 5 days. In cisplatin-treated rats, mild histopathological alterations were noted at day 1, and these changes were severe at days 3 and 5. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr) levels were significantly increased at days 3 and 5. The levels of new urinary protein-based biomarkers, including kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), glutathione S-transferase-alpha (GST-alpha), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), calbindin, clusterin, neutrophil, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and osteopontin, were significantly elevated at days 3 and 5. Among urinary metabolites, trigonelline and 3-indoxylsulfate (3-IS) levels were significantly decreased in urine collected from cisplatin-treated rats prior to histological kidney damage. However, carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), a hepatotoxicant, did not affect these urinary biomarkers. Trigonelline is closely associated with GSH depletion and results in insufficient antioxidant capacity against cisplatin-induced AKI. The predominant cisplatin-induced AKI marker appeared to be reduced in urinary 3-IS levels. Because 3-IS is predominantly excreted via active secretion in proximal tubules, a decrease is indicative of tubular damage. Further, urinary excretion of 3-IS levels was markedly reduced in patients with AKI compared to normal subjects. The area under the curve receiver operating characteristics (AUC-ROC) for 3-IS was higher than for SCr, BUN, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), total protein, and glucose. Therefore, low urinary or high serum 3-IS levels may be more useful for early detection of AKI than conventional biomarkers.</P>

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

톳, 미역 및 다시마를 용매별로 추출하여 이들 추출물의 항돌연변이원성을 검색하였다. 톳 용매별 추출물의 MMS에 대한 항돌연변이 효과는 TA100 균주에서 헥산, 에탄올, 에칠에테르 추출물 순으로 높았고, TA102 균주에서 헥산, 에칠에테르, 에탄올 순으로 높았으나, 미역 및 다시마 추출물은 항돌연변이원성이 거의 없었다. ICR191에 대한 항돌연변이 효과는 시험된 모든 시료에 대한 에탄을 추출물이 높은 항돌연변이 효과를 나타내었고, 에칠에테르와 헥산 추출물은 물 추출물보다도 낮은 효과를 나타냈다. 그러나 톳 추출물은 시험된 모든 용매 추출물에서 60% 이상의 높은 항돌연변이 원성을 나타내어 ICR-191에 의해 유도되는 돌연변이 원성을 저해하는 물질이 수용성 및 비수용성에 걸쳐 다양함을 나타내었다. 한편, 미역, 다시마 및 톳 추출물의 sodium azide에 대한 항돌연변이원성은 없는 것으로 나타났다. Desmutagenic effects against methyl methanesulfonate(MMS)-, 2-methoxy-6-chloro-9-〔3-[2-chloroethyl〕aminopropylamino〕acridine(ICR191)- and sodium azide-induced mutations by the extracts from Hizikia fusiforme. Laminaria japonica and Undaria pinnatifida with different solvents were investigated. The solvent extracts from Hizikia fusiforme were the highest desmutagenic effect against MMS in n-hexane and against ICR191 in ethanol extract. but no against sodium azide in all solvent extracts tested. While the solvent extracts from Undaria pinnatifida and Laminaria japonica were the highest against ICR191 in ethanol extract. but no against sodium azide and MMS in all solvent extracts tested. Moreover. all the solvent extracts from Laminaria japonica were inhibited 60% or more ICR191-induced mutations.
M/W국과 WLL 시스템간의 주파수 공유를 위한 간섭 영향 분석

In this paper, we have carried omit the Capacity of WLL subscribers and the coordinate contour between M/W and WLL systems by drawing the interference power from theoretical interference analysis model in order to analyze the possibility of frequency sharing between two systems. As the results, it is known that the interference effects of WLL base station into M/W station increases with only the transmission power of WLL base station, but that of WLL subscribers increases with the transmission power and the cell radius. So to heighten the capacity of WLL subscribers, it is very important to design suitable transmission power and cell radius. And the interference effects of M/W station into WLL system depends on the number of hops, the distance between hops, and the boresight angle of M/W station. Therefore, for frequency sharing it must be needed to select a suitable capacity of WLL subscribes, control the boresight angle of M/W station and adjust the coordinate contour between M/W and WLL systems.

In electrical impedance tomography (EIT). the resistivity(impedance) distribution of the unknown object is estimated from boundary voltages induced by different current patterns with various reconstruction algorithms. In this paper. we propose a dynamic EIT reconstruction algorithm based on the extended Kalman filter(EKF). The reconstruction problem is formulated as dynamic equation which consists of the state equation and the observation equation and the unknown state is estimated recursively with the aid of the EKF. Computer simulations for the 16-channel synthetic data are provided to illustrate the reconstruction performance of the proposed algorithm.

Persistent trigeminal artery (PTA) is the most frequently observed fetal anastomosis between the carotid and vertebrobasilar circulations. PTA is usually associated with hypoplasia or aplasia of the vertebrobasilar artery. A 56-year-old woman presented with right hemiparesis and dysarthria. Brain MRI showed acute infarction in the right paramedian pons. CT angiogram revealed right persistent trigeminal artery and hypoplasia of the proximal basilar artery

In some real physical and mechanical applications. it is not feasible to directly measure the input axcitations. In this paper, an adaptive input estimator is developed to estimate the unknown input excitations on-line recursively. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

최근 오일에어윤활방법은 고속용 구름베어링에 대한 효과적인 윤활방법의 하나로서 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 공작기계의 생산성과 가공정밀도를 향상시키기 위한 노력의 일환으로 오일에어윤활방법에 기초를 둔 공작기계용 고속주축계를 개발하였다. 그리고 개발된 고속주축계의 성능을 평가하기 위한 일련의 윤활실험을 수행하였다. 특히 공작기계 주축계의 고속화에서 고려해야 할 윤활조건과 구조설계조건을 도출하기 위해서 공급유량, 주축회전수, 그리고 주축계의 구조가 베어링의 온도상승, 베어링의 온도분포, 그리고 주축계의 마찰토오크에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. Recently the oil-air lubrication method has attracted special interest as one of the effective lubrication methods for a high-speed rolling bearing. In this study, the high speed spindle system of machine tools based on the oil-air lubrication method is developed to reduce the machining time and to improve the machining accuracy. And a lubrication experiment for evaluating the performance of the developed spindle system is carried out. Especially, in order to establish the lubrication and structural design conditions related to the development of a high-speed spindle system, the effects of oil supply rate, rotational spindle speed and spindle system structure on the bearing temperature rise, bearing temperature distribution and frictional torque are investigated.
