        Crtstallographic cell constants of point group ?? are a =b≠c, α=β=90。, and γ=120。. There are mirror plane symmetries in oscillation photography taken at a-axis and b-axis, but no plane symmetry at c-axis. Since Weissenberg zeroth layer taken at a- and b-axis obeys Friend's law, half of the photography shows non-symmetric unit of diffraction intensity. There are 6 mirror planes in the Weissenberg zeroth layer when the photography was taken at c-axis, therefore 1/12 of the unit cell is non-symmetric unit.

        The structure of MgO crystal is faced centered cubic(FCC) with cell parameters of a=b=c=4.21Å, α=β=γ=90。. The ionic bond length between Mg and O atoms is 2.1Å. This crystal belongs to m3m point group and to Fm3m space group.

        Reciprocal lattice explorer는 de Jong-Bouman camera와 Buerger precession camera를 合친것이다. 이 explorer를 使用하면 goniometer에 한번 固定한 試料를 使用하여 그 試料의 空間群을 決定하는데 必要한 모든 寫眞을 撮影할 수 있으며 그들은 찌그러지지 않은 逆格子面의 寫眞들이다. 本 論文에서는 de Jong-Bouman 과 Buerger precession 寫眞術의 原理와 使用法을 記述 하였고 또한 de Jong-Bouman의 振動寫眞과 zeroth layer 寫眞으로부터 11個 Laue群의 識別方法도 提示하였다. The reciprocal lattice explorer is an instrument which incorporates the principles of both the Buerger precession and the de Jong-Bouman methods. On the explorer all photographs which are necessary for a space group determination can be taken with a single setting of a crystal and the photographs show undistorted pictures of the reciprocal lattice planes. In this paper, the principles and the usages of the de Jong-Bouman and the Buerger precession photography are described, and a method of 11 Laue group identification using the de Jong-Bouman oscillation and zeroth layer photographs is shown.

      • A case of prurigo pigmentosa misdiagnosed as impetigo

        Prurigo pigmentosa(PP) is an uncommon inflammatory skin disease that presents as a symmetrical erythematous papules, papulovesicles or pustules on back, chest and neck, typically. The lesions resolve after several days, leaving behind pigmentation in reticulated pattern. Patients with PP can present various skin lesions along with progression of PP so that the range of differential diagnosis of PP is extensive. A 21-year-old woman complained pruritic erythematous papules with erosions and crusts on back and chest. The lesions appeared in symmetrical and reticulated pattern. She had been diagnosed as impetigo with allergic contact dermatitis, then applied topical antibiotics and betamethasone for 2weeks at local clinic. However the lesions couldn’t get any improvement. Histopathologic finding showed perivascular lymphocytic infiltrates. We could diagnose her as PP considering clinical and histopathological findings, and then treated with minocycline. The erythematous and reticulated papules improved after 3 weeks, effectively. We report this case because physicians can misdiagnose PP as other diseases including impetigo easily.

      • A case of single juvenile xanthogranuloma on vulva of an infant

        Juvenile xanthogranuloma(JXG) is proliferative disorder of histiocytic cells and usually shows benign course. It predominantly affects infants and the most common areas of involvement are head and neck followed by trunk. It can also involve other organs including eye, lung, and liver. A 7-month-old female presented with about 0.5x0.5cm sized pinkish to yellowish papule on her labia majora. Her parents had noted tiny vesicle-like skin lesion on her labia majora 2 months ago and the lesion progressively increased in size. Her medical history was non-specific. Histologic finding showed collection of foamy macrophages on dermis and multinuclated Touton giant cell. On immunohistochemical stain, the tumor cells were positive for CD 68 and S-100 protein and negative for CD1a. The result of immunohistochemical stain was not consistent with classic JXG but we could diagnose as JXG clinicopathologically. Also there is a case of S-100 positive JXG and the S-100 reactivity disappeared with maturation. There were no other similar skin lesions or suspicious sings of extracutaneous involvement. Based on previous reports, JXG arising on the vulva is extremely rare in infants though vulvar JXG has been occasionally reported in adults. Herein, we report a case of juvenile xanthogranuloma arising from labia majora in 7-month-old infant.

      • Lymphatic flow abnormalities assessed with lymphoscintigraphy in cellulitis in lower limbs

        Background: Lymphedema is induced by various causes including infection, and has been thought to be one of the strongest risk factors for cellulitis, especially in recurrent cases. Objectives: To evaluate lymphatic abnormalities in patients with cellulitis using lymphoscintigraphy and compare frequency of lymphatic flow changes between patients with recurrent cellulitis and patients with first episode. Methods: Retrospective chart review was conducted for the patients visited with cellulitis and undergone lymphoscintigraphy from January, 2013 to May, 2018. Results: A total of fourteen patients were enrolled. There was male predominance (M:F=2.5:1) and the mean age was 60.5-year-old. Seven patients (50%) suffered from recurrent cellulitis. Of all, lymphatic flow obstruction was seen in eight (56%) patients from lymphoscintigraphy and four of them complained persistent swelling on involved limb. In patients with recurrent cellulitis, six of seven patients (86%) showed lymphatic flow obstruction. On the other hand, there were two (29%) cases with lymphatic flow obstruction in patients with first episodes. Conclusion: More than 50% patients with cellulitis showed lymphatic abnormalities and the percentage was higher in patients with recurrent cellulitis. This finding suggests that we should focus on not only the infection but also lymphatic flow changes to prevent recurrent cellulitis even in case that swelling is not evident.

      • A wavelet packet-based noise reduction algorithm of NTSC images using CVBS characteristics

        <P>This paper proposes a wavelet packet-based noise reduction algorithm for national television system committee (NTSC) images, in which the characteristics of a composite video burst signal (CVBS) are utilized. Most of conventional noise reduction algorithms apply spatial or spatio-temporal filtering only to the luminance signal, noting that the human eye is less sensitive to color than to luminance. Such noise reduction algorithms do not consider the realworld situation where a TV signal is transmitted over a noisy channel and decoded at a receiver. In this paper, it is assumed that an NTSVC signal is transmitted as a CVBS and corrupted with white Gaussian noise (WGN) by the channel. A CVBS has characteristics different from those of speech or image signals in a sense that encoded color information is modulated onto a high-frequency color subcarrier. The wavelet packet-based approach is suitable for noise reduction of the CVBS because decomposing a one-dimensional CVBS into eight subbands provides a chance to process each subband separately. In the proposed wavelet packet-based noise reduction algorithm, wavelet packet filtering is employed in subbands containing the color information whereas Wiener filtering is used in the other subbands. The separate treatment of each wavelet subband depending on the characteristics of CVBS leads to effective color and edge preserving noise reduction. The performance of the proposed method is validated by experiments with generated and corrupted CVBS images. Experimental results with various test images show that the proposed algorithm is effective in terms of the noise reduction efficiency and edge and color preservation.</P>

        Efficacy and Safety of Matrix Shave Biopsy Using a Razor Blade for the Diagnosis of Longitudinal Melanonychia

        Background: Longitudinal melanonychia (LM) can be caused by a variety of benign and malignant conditions. Nail matrix biopsy is necessary for the diagnosis of LM; however, physicians hesitate to perform the nail matrix biopsy due to the risk of postoperative complications like permanent matrix damage. Therefore, biopsy methods that minimize the risk of postoperative complications are necessary. Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of the nail matrix shave biopsy using a razor blade. Methods: We reviewed the medical records, clinical photographs, and histopathologic slides of patients who underwent shave biopsy for the diagnosis of LM from January 2018 to March 2020 at Wonkwang University Hospital. Results: The entire pigmented lesion was removed completely by shaving only a partial thickness of the superficial matrix in all patients. The histopathologic diagnosis was melanocyte activation with no atypia in all cases. Eight patients were followed up for 7∼19 months. Resting pain after the shave biopsy improved in most cases (75%) within 1 week. One patient experienced numbness lasting for 3 months. Abnormal sensations, such as tingling and itching, were temporarily reported by two patients. One patient (12.5%) had temporary postoperative nail plate dystrophy, and three patients (37.5%) had recurrence of pigmentation. Conclusion: Our protocol of shave biopsy showed a lower rate of postoperative nail dystrophy than the conventional shave biopsy. We suggest that the shave biopsy using a flexible stainless steel razor blade is a favorable alternative to the conventional shave biopsy. (Korean J Dermatol 2021;59(1):38∼44)
