        영국 국교회 성립에 관한 연구

이석남 한국세계문화사학회 2002 세계 역사와 문화 연구 Vol.6 No.-

The essential feature of the English Reformation consisted in the fact that the church in England severed herself from the rule of Rome, in the Establishment of the Anglican Church. Why did Henry Ⅷ, who was originally loyal to the Roman Pope, dare to resort to such a revolutionary act? It is true that his divorce furnished the principal occasion for the English Reformation, but it cannot be connected directly with the Establishment of the Anglican Church. Drawing a conclusion from the historical process, we may say that, at the excellent opportunity afforded by the king s divorce question, the anticlerical and antipapal feeling prevalent in the nation, above all in the middle class, came to its fullest expression in the Reformation Parliament, and, finally, gave rise to the independence of the Church in England. In this cases, however, the role which Thomas Cromwell enacted was of great importance, because we may justifiably conjecture that he, as a spokesman of the middle class close to the throne, transmitted the anticlerical and antipapal feeling of this class th the king and, at the same time, showed an explicit destination to which both the king and the middle class should come in the end.

      • Tudor朝의 宗敎改革 硏究 : HenryⅧ世의 改革을 中心으로

        이석남 湖南大學校 1995 호남대학교 학술논문집 Vol.16 No.1

There have been many studies on the process and characteristics of English Reformation compared with those of European continent. Roman Catholicism had exercised a prevailing influence all over the European countries for about one thousand years, so the Reformation brought about serious nesistance from neligious establishments. In England such wars as Crusade(1096~1291), Hundred Years War(1338~1453) and the War of Rose(1455~1485) resulted in the fall of the nobles and anti-papist movement. And people wanted to have a strong king who could set up a unified nation state and national church. The bourgeoisie in the urban area whose power was growing preferred having their own king to being ruled by Pope who had only taken advantage of them outside their territory. And they suported their king to have the absolute power in order to keep their priority over other European counties. But the theoretical background of the Anglican Reformation was much influenced by those of European reformation and modified to be come a unique model of England. The War of Rose which had been resulted from the uncertainheirship of the throne drove the country into a civil war. HenryⅦ asked Pope to grant his petition of divorce from his first queen, who could not produce a legal heir to his throne. Pope's refusal of the divorce petition eventually caused him King Henry to proclaim the supremacy of the Anglican church over Roman Catholic Church in England. The Reformation of the European continent started by rligious problems and ended through political solutions, but in England political problem brought about religious reformation. So the continental Reformation can be said to be resulted from the inner contradiction of Roman Catholicism, However, Anglican Reformation was caused by the personal ambition of HenryⅧ and the support of the English people to their King.

      • 英國 重商主義와 舊植民地體制 硏究

        李錫男 호남대학교 1998 호남대학교 학술논문집 Vol.19 No.1

The colonial activities based on mercantilism played a great role in establishing the economic foundation of European countries during the period of absolutism. That is, most colonies imported industrial goods from England, supplied tropical agricultural products, provided the sources for excess profits, and facilitated the basic accumulation of capital. This paper tried to investigate the implication of the British mercantilism and the structure of the old colonial system especially because the American colonies were the most important part of the British colonial system. The European monarchs tried to establish some dominant trade institutions to control their colonies in the 17th century during which capitalism was in progress. Eventually they could successfully set up monopolistic trade institutions to control the economies of their colonies. A series of Navigation Acts were enacted during the mid-1970s in order to strengthen the foundation of the old colonial system through the exclusive control of trade institutions. Therefore, it can be said that these Navigation Acts provided the basic ground for the old colonial system. The mercantilistic colonial system is also called the old colonial system because it was different in each European country but had some distinguished characteristics compared to the Industrial Revolution period or imperial period. The old colonies substantially contributed to the capital accumulation of Britain by directly paying taxes, providing raw materials and tropical agricultural products, giving the opportunities for some excess profits and positions for civil servants. Therefore, the Navigation Acts and Staple Acts were a prelude for creating the old colonial system and then became a means by which Britain tried to monopolize the marine transportatins and trades with the colonies. The British colonial policies developed different types of mercantilism over time but they were consistent in terms that the national interests were always regarded as one of the top priorities. The British government accumulated an enormous amount of capital by making the colonial economies subject to its industrial, commercial, agricultural policies and this accumulated capital allowed Britain to exert a great economic power and dominate the world market.
