        “What Did Du Bois Say about Double Consciousness?”: Racial Masquerade and Affect Alien in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman

        Although BlacKkKlansman (2018) could be further demarcated from traditional passing narratives thanks to Spike Lee’s attempts of adding more diverse voices and sarcastic twists to the original plot, both the acclamatory and excoriating reviews seem limited to whether the film’s depiction of the Black Diaspora (and passing) is politically correct. Clarifying that the experienced auteur succeeds in making it difficult for the audience to interpret BlacKkKlansman only in one way, I in this paper aim to appositely shed on light on the film’s ambivalence by thoroughly analyzing Ron Stallworth’s infiltration into the Ku Klux Klan mainly based on the conceptualizations of racial masquerade and affect alien. Based on several sequences germane to the black protagonist’s infiltration into the Klan through the collaboration with white sergeant Flip Zimmerman, BlaKkKlansman not only adroitly blurs the conventional boundary between racial masquerade and passing, but also associates the two concepts with what W. E. B. Du Bois refers to as “double consciousness.” Such analysis related to the visual aspects of the film as well as of black identity sheds light on the value of ambivalence implicit in the lived experiences of Black Diaspora as an antithesis to white epistemology disseminating the monolithic and distorted sense of blackness, which is discussed more profoundly in light of the idea of affect. This paper specifically explores several moments in which Ron becomes a doubled figure in relation to the conceptualization of affect alien, insinuating that the very double consciousness is what induces the protagonist and the audience to cast doubt on various dichotomies. Hence, I ultimately seek to suggest that BlacKkKlansman’s ambivalence as a more complicated and metacinematic parody of the conventional passing narratives represents the coexistence of the dilemma and possibility of resistance against white epistemological limitation, associating the film with the highly contemporary meme, “Black lives matter more than white feelings.”

        Nonlinear dynamic system under random excitation was analyzed by using stochastic method. Linearization methods were used in order to linearize non-linear structural characteristics but the parametric excitation was used as it was given. Nonlinear vibration problems of 1 DOF and 2 DOF system were analyzed in this research. Analytical method and equivalent energy method were introduced and applied to example system. The result were compared with Monte Carlo simulation result. From the comparison the combination method of the above two method was derived and showed good results.

        고등학생의 유전 문제 해결 과정에서 드러난 표상 능력의 차이

        This study aimed to explore differencesbetween successful and unsuccessful problem-solvers’ representationalcompetence revealed by the solving of twogenetic problems in different presentational modes. Fourhigh school students participated in solving two geneticproblems that contained diverse genetic concepts and requiredcomplex reasoning. Representational competence wasanalyzed with the form of representation, the level ofabstraction and the accuracy of domain knowledge in representation. The student who solved the problem successfully,presented via the verbal mode, selected the appropriateform of representation such as Punnett square and diagramof chromosomes. Her representation showed a high level ofabstraction and accurate domain knowledge. The studentswho solved the problem presented via verbal, graphical, andtable modes constructed the pedigree commonly. Thesuccessful students, however, transformed the original representationinto pedigree so perfectly that it accuratelyreflected the domain knowledge of the original representation. The students used their representation forunderstanding information of the problems, thereby reasoningthe right answers, visualizing and monitoring theproblem-solving process. These findings may provide educationalinsights for educators who seek to understand therelationship between genetic problem-solving processes andrepresentation.       • 소음의 주파수분석을 이용한 펌프의 고장진단

        We should maintain the maximum operation capacity for production facilities and find properly out the fault of each equipment rapidly in order to decrease a loss caused by its failure. The acoustic signals of a machine always carry the dynamic information of the machine. These signals are very useful for the feature extraction and fault diagnosis. We performed a fundamental study which develops a system of fault diagnosis for a pump. We obtained noises by a microphone, analysed and compared the signals converted to frequency range for normal products, artificially deformed products. We tried to search a change of noise signals according to machine malfunctions and analyse the type of deformation or failure. The results showed that acoustic signals as well as vibration signals can be used as a simple method for a detection of machine malfunction or fault diagnosis.

        In order to predict vibration during end-milling, the cutting dynamics was modelled by using neural network, and combined with structural dynamics by considering dynamic cutting states. Specific cutting constants of the cutting dynamics model were obtained by averaging cutting forces and tool diameter, cutting speed, feed, axial depth, radial depth were considered as if machining factors. Cutting forces by tests and by neural network simulation were compared and the vibration during end-milling was simulated.

      • 영지 액체 배양의 Wall Growth에 미치는 Polyacrylic Acid의 첨가 효과

        This study was carried out to screen the effective polymeric additives preventing wall growth during mycelial submerged cultivation of Ganoderma. ludicum. Effects of additives on mycelial growth and exo-polysaccharide (EPS) production in flask culture and jar fermenter system under 3 different pH processes were investigated, and changes of mycelial morphology were also examined. From flask culture of G. lucidum wish additives of different concentrations, 0.1%(w/v) polyacrylic acid was effective for EPS production. As the polyacrylic acid of 0.1%(w/v) was added in medium, wall growth of G. lucidum mycelium grown in jar fermenter system could be protected. The addition of 0.1%(w/v) polyacrylic acid to medium was also improved the mycelial growth and EPS production in the later of submerged culture G. lucidum and no changes of mycelial morphology were observed.

        A reasonable analysis of cutting force in end milling may give much advantage to improvement of productivity and cutting tool life. In order to analyze cutting force, the cutting dynamics was modelled mathematically by using chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and the chip load. Specific cutting constants of the cutting dynamics model were obtained by average cutting forces, tool diameter, cutting speed, feed, axial depth, and radial depth of cut. The model is verified through comparisons of model predicted cutting forces with measured cutting forces obtained from machining experiments. The results showed good agreement and from that we could predict reasonably the cutting forces in end milling.

        Nonlinear dynamic system of a elastic pendulum system under random excitations was modelled by using the Lagrangian equations of motion which uses the kinetic and potential energy of a target system. The responses of random excitations were calculated by using Monte Carl simulation which uses the series of random numbers. The procedure of Monte Carlo simulation is generation of random numbers, system model, system output, and statistical management of output. linearize non-linear structural characteristics but the parametric excitation was used as it was given. The result were compared with the order of nonlinear terms which were considered in the calculation of responses.

        Recently washing machines are to be in lower vibration and lower sound because of better environment. Vibration problems in washing machines occur in both washing mode and spinning mode, but vibration in spinning mode becomes main problem because of its high rotating speed and continuity. Vibration while spinning is mainly due to rigid body motion of total washing system which includes suspending rods, washing bath, spinning bath, and gear sets. In this study, some researches were done in order to analyze the rigid body motion of washing system and flexible vibration of spinning bath. A basic mathematical model was established, and the effect of position of salt water and shape change of salt water case were considered. And the effect of lengths of suspending rods, attaching angles, vertical and horizontal position, stiffness of spring on the change of vibration were also considered. To identify the effect of salt water on vibration, some measurements were done. When salt water was positioned at upper part, the effect was most and this coincides with the tendency of simulation.
