This paper presents a numerical finite element procedure which can trace plastic collapse behavior of space framed structures under small deformation. The member is assumed to be prismatic and straight, and has the rectangular or I cross section. The concept of plastic hinge is introduced and the incremenal displacement method is applied for the elasto-plastic analysis. The limit state condition of the plastic hinge is considered under the combined condition of a axial force, bending moments and a torque. Numerical examples are presented in order to demonstrated the validity and efficiency of the proposed procedure.

A finite element formulation for spatial stability and free vibration analysis of thin - walled tapered elastic beams are presented. It includes shear deformation effects due to flexural shear sand restrained warping stress, rotary inertia effects and bending- torsional coupling effects due to unsymmetric cross section. Elastic and geometric stiffness matrices and consistent mass matrix for finite element analysis are evaluated by considering unsymmetric and tapered properties of cross section and by using the isoparametric interpolation function and the third and fifth order Hermitian interpolation polynomials. In order to verify the validity of this formulation, numerical solutions for stability and free vibration problems of tapered beams are presented and compared with analytical results.
