A Parametric study is numerically carried out for flow fields in a two-dimensional plane channel with thin obstacles(“baffles and blocks”) mounted symmetrically in the vertical direction and periodically in the streamwise direction. The aim of this investigation is to understand how various geometric conditions influence the critical characteristics and pressure drop. A range of BR(the ratio of baffle interval to channel height) between 1 and 5 is considered. Especially when BR is equal to 3, for which the critical Reynolds number turned out to be minimal, we add blocks in the center region in order to study their destabilizing effects on the flows. It is revealed that the critical Reynolds number is further decreased by the presence of the block.
Expression and Localization of Aquaporins in Benign Prostate Hyperplasia and Prostate Cancer

The aquaporin (AQP) families of water channels are intrinsic membrane proteins that facilitate selective water and small solute movement across the plasma membrane. The purposes of this study were to determine the expression and localization of AQPs in benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. Prostatic tissue was collected from patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostate cancer by transurethral resection of the prostate. The expression and cellular localization of the AQPs were determined in the human prostate by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. AQP1,3, and 9 were expressed in the human prostate. Western blot analysis revealed bands at 28-36 kDa for the AQP1, 3, and 9 proteins. Of these proteins, AQP3 and 9 were expressed in the epithelium. Immunolabeling showed that AQP1 was mainly expressed in the capillaries and venules of the prostate, AQP9 was expressed in the cytoplasm of the epithelium, and AQP3 was mainly associated with the plasma membrane of the prostatic epithelium. Only AQP3 expression was localized in the cell membrane, and expressed AQP3 was translocated to the cytoplasm in prostate cancer. The epithelium in the human prostate expresses AQP3 and 9 proteins, and the capillaries and venules of the prostate express AQP1. Characterizing or modifying the expression of AQP3 may lead to an understanding of the role of the AQPs in human prostatic disease.

Purpose: We evaluated the self-reported prevalence of and attitudes toward premature ejaculation (PE) in a community-based study of married couples. Materials and Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study of PE was conducted among married couples in Gwangju, Korea. Self-reported data were collected through the use of questionnaires, which included demographic questions, the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT), the intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT), patient-reported outcome (PRO), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Results: Of the 290 couples who completed the survey, the prevalence of PEDT-diagnosed PE including probable PE was 23.7% of men. By IELT measure, the prevalence of PE was 21.7% as reported by the men and 23.9% as reported by their partners, respectively. PRO responses indicated that control over ejaculation and severity of PE were not reported significantly differently by the men and their partners. Satisfaction with sexual intercourse was poorer for the men’s partners than for the men. Personal distress and interpersonal difficulty were higher for the men than for their partners. The partners of men in the PE group had significantly lower FSFI scores than did the partners of men in the non-PE group. Conclusions: The reporting of the prevalence of PE did not differ significantly between the men in this study and their partners. However, PE in men tended to impact their partners’ sexual function.
20세 전후의 남성에서 포경수술 유무에 따른 음경 길이에 관한 고찰

Purpose: There have been a few reports investigating the measurement of penile lengths, but none that compare the results of circumcision with penile length. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between penile length and circumcision, and the mean penile length of physically and sexually active young men in Korea. Materials and Methods: The penile lengths in the flaccid and stretched states were measured, between November 2002 and April 2003, in a random group of 2,335 young men without endocrine disorders or an anomaly of the penis. Patients were classified as circumcised(group 1, n=1,767) or uncircumcised(group 2, n=568). The age, body height, body weight, and flaccid and stretched penile lengths were analyzed. Results: The mean values of the flaccid and stretched penile lengths were 7.92±3.00 and 12.03±2.66cm, and 8.07±1.19 and 11.71±1.81cm in groups 1 and 2, respectively, with statistical significance according to the stretched length between the two groups(p<0.05). The flaccid and stretched lengths were correlated with height and weight in group 1(p<0.05). Conclusions: In this study, we confirmed the normal range for penile length of young adults in Korea. The results of this study showed that a circumcision did not influence the penile length or increase the penile length postoperatively.

This study examines the effects of openness to trade on total factor productivity (TFP) growth using data from 45 Japanese manufacturing industries. The extreme bound analysis (EBA) test was employed to perform a sensitivity analysis. The EBA test results of Japanese manufacturing sectors did not comply with the hypothesis of ‘virtuous cycle of trade and growth.’ First, the growth rate in real gross output showed robust effects on TFP change. The effect of changes in R&D stock on TFP growth was very minimal and limited. Second, regarding the variables of openness to trade, a positive and robust effect on TFP growth was found from a few sub-manufactures. In addition, a small number of negative and robust effects on TFP growth were found. Most of the manufacturing industries did not have any robust relationship between variables of openness to trade and TFP growth. Given our findings that trade expansion has an insignificant and ambiguous effect on TFP, a scale effect of output growth may have governed the growth of Japanese manufacturing industries for the period of 1973-1998.
The Fundamental Sources of Technological Progress in Korean Manufacturing during 1973-1993

The objective of this study is to identify the source of technological progress in Korean manufacturing during 1973-1993. We used the extreme bound analysis of Levine and Renelt (1992)and employed a variety of all possible macroeconomic growth variables including R&D sectors. We examined the robustness of macroeconomic indicators in the relationship with the technological progress." None of the macroeconomic indicators, except trade sectors, show a positive and robust relationship with technological progress. In the trade sector, the growth of total exports, total imports,light industry exports, and capital goods imports shows a positive and robust relationship with technological progress. We conclude that the fundamental sources of technological progress of Korean manufacturing will be from the growth of export and imports.
