In final assembly shops of automotive companies, process planning is performed concurrently before completing new design. Complex business process is inevitable to reduce development period for new cars in the manner of concurrent and collaborative engineering. Consequently engineers should compare old input with updated information and update their results an all times. Complete assembly process planner, and a process planner should provide his results for other planners in real time when many planners work together for a same shop. They have to communicate and cooperate each other continuously. In this paper, the web-based collaborative process planning system for automotive final assembly shops is developed. Using this system, savings in time and cost on process planning for final assembly are possible.

To ensure competitiveness in the modern automotive market, material arrangements and information managements should be performed concurrently with new car developments. In automotive general assembly shops, thus, new business workflows and supporting environments are inevitable to reduce the manufacturing preparation time in developing a new car in the manner of concurrent and collaborative engineering. Since complete material arrangements for a whole general assembly system is a huge and complex job, several planners should execute their planning jobs and share information. Therefore, each planner should provide others with his/her results with continuous on-line communication and cooperation. In this research, a web-based system for concurrent and collaborative material arrangements for automotive general assembly via 3D mock-up is developed. By using this system, savings in time and cost of material arrangements are possible, and the reliability of the planning result is improved.<br/>

Digital Manufacturing is a technology to facilitate effective product developments and agile productions by digital environments representing the physical and logical schema and the behavior of real manufacturing systems including manufacturing resources, environments and products. A digital factory as a well-designed and integrated environment is essential for successful applications of this technology. In this research, we constructed a sophisticated digital factory of an automotive company's general assembly shop by measuring and modeling through the parametric 3-D CAD. It is expected that this digital general assembly shop is useful for achieving great time and cost savings in many manufacturing preparation and planning activities for new car developments, such as a process/operation planning, a production and material flow analysis, a manufacturability analysis based on ergonomics, etc.
