황용건(Hwang Yong Geun) 나혜석학회 2015 나혜석연구 Vol.6 No.-

The Whang-ok Incident was a second full-scale domestic attack or an assassination and destruction scheme, which was a massive incident to bring explosives into Korea. This incident was undertaken by Lee Hyunjun (Park Kihong), a member of Koryo communist party and Eyyeoldan. He kept in close contact with Kim Wonbong, Jang Geunsang, Kim Sihyun, Kim Jisup, and Hwang ok, in and out of Beijing, Andong (Dandung), Seoul. The large-scale assassination and demolition scheme was to destroy main Japanese governmental buildings in Korea and assassinate the governor general and his chief subordinates. In order to carry out the mission, Whang ok was deeply implicated in a scheme as a main schemer to bring into Seoul from Shanghai a large amount of explosives and weaponry. Whang ok chose Andong as a base of the operation to bring in explosives. The residence of the vice consul at Andong Japanese Consulate where Na Hyesuk lived was especially a hide-out for the scheme. With the support of Na Hyesuk, members of Eyyeoldan were able to stay at the place in safety and protecton. Na Hyesuk’s support of Eyyeoldan in connection with the Whang-ok Incident was mentioned in fragments in the memoires of those involved in the incident after independence. She did whatever she could to provide the members of Eyyeoldan with safety and protection both materially and spiritually with help from her husband, the vice consul, Kim Wooyoung. Her supportive activities involved supplying them with food and accommodations, passports to cross the border between Korea and China, traveling expenses, ammunitions, and hid from the Japanese a variety of stuffs the activists carried with them. Na Hyesuk spent her late twenties, prime time in life, in Andong. Her active patriotic activities were a manifestation of Korean Nationalism in that she set up a night school for Korean women, staged a savings and life-improving campaign in the community. She also took whatever risks to support Eyyeoldan.
