This investigantion was practiced in order to establish better cropping system for upland in Noi l dong, Dalsung gun, Kyung-pook province. The present status of cropping systems were investigated and then seven developed cropping systems were considered. The results investigated were as follows: 1. Present status of the field cropping system a) Total field area of the investigated village was 31.6 ha or less, of which 75,5% was occupied by barley+soybean system, 8% : barley+sesame, 3.4% : single red pepper growing, 3.3% : barley+sweet potato, and the rest cropping systems were less than 2%. b) Fifteen kinds of crops including barley, soybean, sesame, red pepper, sweet potato, radish, welsh onion, millet, red bean, are grown. The land utilization was 190.7% due to the double cropping system. c) Jaechun No.5 and Dongbory were the leading varieties of barley and new improved varieties were in a little use. The other crops were sesame, red pepper, and sweet potato, but they were almost local varieties with low yields, d) Average yields per 10a of Jaechun No.5 and Olbory in barley were 169Kg and 283Kg, and per 10a soybean and red bean were 107Kg and 100Kg per 10a, respectivly. 2. Recommended field cropping systems. a) New seven types of cropping systems were established, and they are barley+soybean, barley+sesame, barley+red bean, barley+millet, barley+carrot, and single red pepper growing system. Standard cultivation methods were adopted for each cropping system. b) New economic barley varieties recommended for this village were Olbory, Milyang No.6, and Sugae No. 175, while many new economic varieties of other crops were recommended as back crops of above barley varieties. They are Kwanggyo and Buseok for soybean varieties, Hongcheon and Cheongjujeok for red bean, Suwon No.5 for sesame, Sinmi and Whangmi for sweet potato, Kukbun, Kangdaljo, and Sawisokim for millet, Summer Ochon for carrot, Saegochu for red pepper varieties. c) The yield of Olbary is expected to be 441 Kg per 10a, which will be higher than that of 1975 year by 56 percent. The yield of Kwanggyo of soybean variety will be 174Kg per 10a and that of Hongcheon and Cheongjujeok of red bean varieties will be 150 Kg per 10a, which will be higher than those of 1975's production by 63 and 50%, respectively. d) For new market crops summer growing carrot and red pepper were recommended and the technics of cultivation for early harvest must be taught for higher yield. New economic varieties for sesame, sweet potato, and millet must be introduced and the standard cultivation methods must be employed for the increased yield of these new economic crops.
