        외국인 유아의 어린이집 적응을 위한 보육교사의 지원경험과 요구

        The study aims to examine the foreign children's adaptation process to childcare centers and to find a direction to support them. Focus group interviews (FGI) were conducted twice using the photo-voice method for seven teachers having experienced in caring of foreign children as homeroom teachers at S Childcare Center, a university-affiliated center located in Seoul. The results of the study are as follows. The childcare teachers recalled that they felt difficulties and burdens while recognizing that there was always a need for support in the process of supporting foreign children to adapt to the childcare center, and that they had to spend more attention and time for them. Moreover, the teachers repeatedly and continuously provided efforts to communicate with foreign children and their parents, and the children gradually adapted to the childcare center. Furthermore, for future support methods for teachers, the necessity of developing guidelines for parents and teachers for guiding foreign children and expectations for having sufficient support for auxiliary personnel regarding language and play in each class, and support for improving teachers' abilities are needed. This study can be used for establishing a systematic and practical multicultural education program to realize a multicultural society that our society aims for.

        어머니가 지각한 일상에 미치는 코로나19 영향과 유아의 사회적 유능성의 관계: 어머니의 사회적 유대감과 양육스트레스의 순차매개효과

        Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on daily lives and their children’s social competence, as perceived by mothers, through sequential mediating effects of the mothers’ social connectedness and parenting stress.Methods: Participants were 315 mothers with children 3-5 years old in Korea. An online survey using a questionnaire was conducted and preliminary analyses were carried out as descriptive statistics using SPSS Statistics 22.0. Research models were examined by confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling, and bootstrapping analysis was conducted using Mplus 8.4 program.Results: The results revealed that the COVID-19 impact on daily life as perceived by mothers did not show a significant direct effect on their children’s social competence. However, it had a significant indirect effect on children’s social competence through the mothers’ parenting stress, but a nonsignificant effect through the mothers’ social connectedness. Additionally, it had an indirect effect on children’s social competence through sequential mediating effects of both, the mothers’ social connectedness and parenting stress.Conclusion: These findings empirically confirmed the relationships among the perceived impact of COVID-19, mothers’ social connectedness, parenting stress, and their children’s social competence. Furthermore, the results illustrated that high levels of COVID-19 impact on daily lives could lead to low levels of children’s social competence through the effects of mothers’ social connectedness and parenting stress, suggesting a comprehensive framework of social contextual and parenting socio-psychological factors to understand children’s social competence. Therefore, the findings could help to identify points of effective intervention for children’s social-emotional development within a context of mother-child relation in the current epidemic situations.

        Identification of Two New Races of Podosphaera xanthii Causing Powdery Mildew in Melon in South Korea

        Powdery mildew caused by the obligate biotrophic fungus Podosphaera xanthii poses a serious threat to melon (Cucumis melo L.) production worldwide. Frequent occurrences of the disease in different regions of South Korea hints at the potential existence of several races which need to be identified. The races of five isolates collected from different powdery mildew affected regions were identified based on the pathogenicity tests of these isolates on eight known differential melon cultigens namely, SCNU1154, PMR 45, WMR 29, PMR 5, MR-1, PI124112, Edisto 47 and PI414723. None of the isolates have shown same disease responses to those of the known races tested in this study and in previous reports on these identical differential melon cultigens. This indicates that the tested uncharacterized isolates are new races. Among the isolates, the isolates from Hadong, Buyeo, Yeongam and Gokseong have shown same pathogenicity indicating the possibility of these isolates being one new race, for which we propose the name ‘race KN1’. The isolate of Janghueng have also shown unique disease response in the tested differential melon cultigens and hence, we identified it as another new race with a proposed name ‘race KN2’. Report of these new races will be helpful in taking effective control measures in prevalent regions and for future breeding programs aimed at developing varieties that are resistant to these race(s).

        초등학생 자녀를 둔 취업모의 일-가정 균형의 잠재전이분석: 일-가정 균형의 유형 및 유형 간 전이의 예측요인 검증을 중심으로

        The purpose of the study was to apply latent transition analysis to the work-family balance of working mothers with a child in elementary school by focusing on the effect of antecedents on both work-family balance typology and the transition between typologies. Data from 400 working mothers who participated in the eighth and eleventh waves of the Panel Study on Korean Children were used. The results can be summarized as follows. First, the latent profile analysis of working mothers whose children were in the first grade classified the work-family balance types as 'contradictory' or 'beneficial' and of working mothers whose children were in the fourth grade as 'conflictual', 'contradictory', 'high beneficial', 'low beneficial' or 'beneficial'. Second, working mothers whose work-family balance was 'contradictory' or 'beneficial' when their children were in the first grade mostly had, respectively, a 'low beneficial' or a 'high beneficial' balance when their children were in the fourth grade. Third, the probability of being classified into each type differed according to subjective happiness and marital conflict in the first grade, and marital conflict and social support in the fourth grade. Moreover, marital conflict and social support were significant in the transition between the types of work-family balance. The study showed that the types of work-family balance differed for each time point for individual working mothers. The study also highlighted the importance of parenting-related personal, family and social factors in determining the work-family balance type and transition between types.

        초등학생이 지각한 학업성취압력의 변화 유형과 심리 · 정서적 및 인지적 특성과의 관계

        Objectives: This study identified the latent types of changes in academic pressure perceptions among elementary school students in fourth to sixth grade. Additionally, the study investigated the relation between these changes and psycho-emotional and cognitive characteristics. Methods: Data from the 11th-13th waves of the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) were used for preliminary correlation and descriptive analyses in SPSS Windows software version 23. A three-step growth mixture model in Mplus was then employed to uncover differences in psycho-social characteristics associated with perceived academic pressure change types and variations in their cognitive characteristics. Results: Four types of perceived academic achievement pressure changes were identified among elementary school students: low-level steady increase, high-level steady decrease, low-level rapid increase, and high-level rapid decrease. These change types were associated with significant differences in psycho-emotional characteristics, such as academic stress, time use satisfaction, and self-esteem. Additionally, distinctive executive function difficulties were observed between the rapid increase and decrease of academic achievement pressure change types in elementary school students. Conclusion: The study confirmed distinct academic achievement pressure perceptions among elementary school students, emphasizing the roles of psycho-emotional factors (academic stress, time use satisfaction, and self-esteem) and cognitive factors (executive function difficulties) in understanding these variations. The study also discussed implications and proposed directions for future research.

        지역아동센터 이용 초기청소년의 자아존중감 변화 유형화와 영향요인 검증

        The purpose of the present study was to identify the typology of the self-esteem changes among early adolescents using community child centers and to test the antecedents of such changes. To achieve these goals, the 1st to 5th waves of the 2nd data set involving 492 early adolescents from the Panel Study on Community Child Center were used, and from this data, a growth mixture model (GMM) analysis was conducted. The results can be summarized as follows. Firstly, early adolescents’ self-esteem changes were identified as being in three latent classes: a steadily increasing group(51.29%), a rapidly decreasing group (7.39%), and a high-level stable group(41.33%). Secondly, among antecedents, early adolescents’ depression and peer alienation were significant determinants of the latent classes. Based on the results of this study, further implications and suggestions for future study were also discussed. 다양한 사회적 현상이 아동·청소년의 구조적 빈곤을 초래하고 있다. 이에 취약계층 아동·청소년의 건강한 성장과 발달을 위한 사회적 관심과 노력이 필요한 시점이다. 이 연구는 지역아동센터 이용 초기청소년의 자아존중감이 이질적 변화 양상을 보일 것이라 가정하여 자아존중감의 변화를 유형화하고, 변화의 유형화에 미치는 영향요인을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 지역아동센터 아동패널조사 2기 1~5차년도 데이터의 492명의 초기청소년 자료를 활용하여 성장혼합모형분석을 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지역아동센터 이용 초기청소년의 자아존중감의 변화는 3개의 집단으로 구분되며, ‘완만한 증가집단’(51.29%), ‘급감소집단’(7.39%) 및 ‘상위유지집단’(41.33%)으로 명명하였다. 둘째, 초기청소년의 자아존중감의 변화 유형화에 미치는 생태체계적 변인의 영향력을 검증한 결과, 개인요인 중 우울이, 부모 및 또래요인 중 또래소외감이 초기청소년의 자아존중감 잠재집단에 각각 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 지역사회요인은 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이를 통해 지역아동센터 이용 초기청소년을 대상으로 이들의 자아존중감의 변화의 개인차를 확인하고, 자아존중감의 변화에 미치는 보호요인과 위험요인의 영향을 확인할 수 있었다. 나아가 취약계층 초기청소년을 대상으로 이들의 자아존중감을 높이기 위한 필요성과 방향성을 제시하고, 심리사회적 적응에 관한 시사점을 제공하였다는 데 이 연구는 의의가 있다. 마지막으로 이 연구의 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
