        A number of experiments were conducted to determine the flotation characteristics of lowa and Pittsburgh coals in which various conditions were applied to study the effect of different parameters such as a frother dosage, oily collectors, regulators and the wet-oxidation. Iowa coals did not respond as well to froth flotation as Pittsburgh coal. Althouth Iowa coal floated very slowly and incompletely with only a frother, it floated rapidly when a large dosage of an oily collector was employed in addition. On the other hand, Pittsburgh coal floated rapidly with only a frother or an alkaline solution. A small amount of an collector increased the recovery of Pittsburgh coal significantly. The results of these flotation experiments showed that little mineral matter was removed when a high recovery was achieved.

        Liquefaction experiments of subbituminous coal were conducted to examine the activities and selectivities of the commercial Ni-Mo, Co-Mo and iron series catalysts. Results indicated that both commercial and iron series catalysts gave similar effects on the liquefaction of 6 per cent increase in oil production. Compared to powder catalysts, impregnated ones gave better selectivities by increasing 4 per cent in oil production. When FeO was employed as a catalyst, it gave the maximum degree of liquefaction at 425℃, On the other hand, oil production was increased as liquefaction temperature became high. For best condition for liquefaction reaction was concluded to employ impregnated FeO as a catalyst(FeO/coal=0.003) at 450℃.

      • 선택미립화가 석탄부선에 미치는 영향

        Upper Freeport 및 Pittsburgh 석탄을 사용하여, 선택적 미립화가 부선에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 부선실험결과, 석탄입도가 낮아질수록 정탄 회수율은 증가하지만 회분제거율은 낮아짐이 확인되었다. 또한 pyrite의 완전 단체분리가 이루어질 때 부선에 의한 pyrite 제거가 가능함이 현미경분석으로 확인되었다. 시료 석탄들을 아세톤으로 화학파쇄시킨 후 부선 실험시, 정탄 회수율은 감소하지만 pyrite 제거율은 상당히 향상되었다. 특히 Upper Freeport 석탄의 경우, 아세톤은 pyrite 및 광물질의 단체분리도를 높여서 부선효율을 향상시켰다. 그러나, 암모니아에 의한 화학 파쇄효과는 미미한 것으로 나타났다. Experiments were conducted to investigate effects of selective sizing on coal flotation. Two kinds of Appalachian coals, i. e. Upper Freeport and Pittsburgh coal were employed for these purposes. Flotation results indicated that the recoveries become higher, but ash removals decrease as particles become finer. Also, microscopic analyses proved that the perfect separation of pyrite was possible when the complete liberation of pyrite was achieved for Upper Freeport coal. Although the chemical comminution by acetone decrease the clean coal recoveries for both coals, it had significant effects on pyrite removal. Especially, acetone could liberate not only pyrite but mineral matter in Upper Freeport coal by giving better separation efficiencies. However, the chemical comminution by ammonia gas did not give any favorable effect on flotations.

        금연광고에서 메시지 소구방향과 페이스북/인쇄매체 노출의 차이에 따른 금연의도 비교연구: 계획된 행동이론의 적용

        Objectives: Health threats from smoking are still not diminishing worldwide. As part of efforts to reduce the smoking population, advertising communications through various media is one of the major anti-smoking campaigns, such as efforts to improve the environment of other institutions. With the development of remarkable media technology, communication through Social Network Service (SNS) has become a part of our lives. The purpose of this paper is to explore effective ways of smoking cessation advertising by comparing the persuasive effects of smoking cessation messages on Facebook and existing print media that have a great influence on the communication environment. Methods: The threat appeal in advertising has been proven to have an effect on leading to the intention of quitting smoking. There are two ways of threat appeal: personal harm threat appeal and social welfare threat appeal, and facebook and print media. Check the persuasive effect of the advertising message when loaded in the medium. Four types of experimental advertisements are exposed to 241 male and female subjects to verify the persuasive effect of SNS and traditional print media. Results: The threat appeal advertisement of personal harm was more persuasive than the social welfare threat advertisement in the smoking cessation attitude. In perceived behavioral control factors, which included the concept of self-confidence, the threat of personal harm threat claims was significantly higher than that of social welfare threat appeals. Personal harm threat claims and social benefit threat claims on Facebook have a greater impact on perceived behavioral control than print media. Lastly, subjective norms including the concept of ambient pressure perceived by smokers were the most influential factors influencing smoking intentions. Conclusions: Threat appeal is still valid for smoking cessation advertisements, and in combination with SNS media, effective smoking cessation and behavior can be induced. In addition, SNS should be distinguished from traditional media, and the advantages of SNS media should be appropriately utilized.

      • 구형 석탄입자상에 기포부착에 따른 안정이론 연구

        When a system consisting of a bubble and a solid particle suspended separately in a liquid changes to a system consisting of the gas bubble attached to the particle an energy change has occurred. In this study, the phenomenon of the bubble-particle attachment is investigated theoretically and applied to both coal and pyrite cases. Considering the importance of relative size of air bubbles, the attachment of large air bubbles to spherical small particles is studied. The adhesion occurs spontaneously if the contact angle between particle and air bubble is positive. Also, the maximum attachment force is found to be a function of the contact angle and the contact ratio is 0.707 at the condition. Although two contact radius appear for the same attachment force, only the larger one gives the stable condition. In the unsteady state, the radius of the attached particle decreases with increase of acceleration. For each contact angle, the maximum particle size, minimum bubble size, and contact area are calculated. Derived equations are applied to both coal-water-bubble and pyrite-water-bubble systems, which illustrates the separation phenomena clearly.

        CO oxidation from syngas (CO and H2) using nanoporous Pt/Al2O3 catalyst

        The concept of “waste-to-wealth” is spreading awareness to prevent global warming and recycle the restrictive resources. To contribute towards sustainable development, hydrogen energy is obtained from syngas (CO and H2) generated from waste gasification, followed by CO oxidation and CO2 removal. In H2 generation, it is key to produce more purified H2 from syngas using heterogeneous catalysts. In this respect, we prepared Pt/Al2O3 catalyst with nanoporous structure using precipitation method, and compared its catalytic activity with commercial alumina (Degussa). Based on the results of XRD and TEM, it was found that metal particles did not aggregate on the alumina surface and showed high dispersion. Optimum condition for CO conversion was 1.5 wt% Pt loaded on Al2O3 support, and pure hydrogen was obtained after removal of CO2 gas.
