Purpose: This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of blending oils on atopic dermatitis (AD) model of NC/Nga mice. Methods: Adult NC/Nga mice were assigned to 1 of 3 groups: control group (C, n=8), experimental group [AD-induced group, blending oil-treated group (E=8, 8)]. Mice in the E group were given a treatment of blending oils such as Lavender, Rosemary and Lemon Balm (LRL) for 2 sessions (every day) for 6 days. Results: The AD-induced mice with LRL blending oils treatment showed a significant decrease in epidermal thickness, number of mast cells and degranulation, expression of TNF-α and scoring of sensual assessment. Conclusion: LRL blending oils may be a putative resource for the cure of or treatment of AD by the diminution of AD-pathological factors such as the epidermal thickness, the number of mast cells and degranulation as well as the expression of TNF-α.

The purpose of this study is to offer basic data on sex education for middle and high school students through content analysis of sex education subjects. The objects of this study were sex related subjects in the 7th grade curriculum and sex education guide books. The results were as follows: According to the results of analyzing sex education topics classified by grade, the 7th grade accounted for 35.2% of total topics, the 8th grade 2.9%, the 9th grade 2.9%, and the 10th grade 32.3%, the result of analyzing sex education topics classified by subject, showed 76.4% of total topics in sex education guide book, 29.4% were technique and domestic subjects, 20.5% were physical subjects, 17.6% were moral subjects, 8.8% were science subjects, 2.9% were society subjects. The domains which were chiefly concerned in sex education curricula for middle school students were "Human Development", "Relationship", and "Sexual Health". On the other hand, the domains which were mainly concerned with sex education curricula for high school students were "Relationship", "Sexual Behavior" and "Sexual Health". Most sex education subjects provided less instruction concerning "Personal Skills" and "Sexual Behavior" than other domains. The suggestion according to the results were as follows: It is desirable to teach sex education as an integrated subject. Especially, sex education should be a part of a comprehensive school health education program. Because this study focused on analyzing materials for teachers, further research is recommended to analyze sex education materials for students.

This study was conducted to determine the content of inorganic metals in soft drinks distributed locally in markets. 6 trace metals (Fe, Ca, Zn, Na, Mg, and K) were detected in 16 kinds of drinks, 80 samples. The average concentration of inorganic metals in vegetable drinks was relatively higher than that of mixed drinks or carbonated drinks. The concentration of calcium, which is advisable inorganic metals for the growth of skeleton and the prevention of osteoporosis, hypertension, was very high and needed to be careful for the consumer who is suffer with lithiasis. Although carbonated drinks are very popular with the children and adolescence owing to the unbalance of the intake of Ca and P, habitual drinking could cause obstruction in skeletal growth and metabolism of Fe, Cu, and Zn. So, it is suggested that more practical study is needed for the intake of inorganic metals.

This study were conducted to estimate the values of the heavy metal in the fresh water fish and shellfish collected from fish market. The levels of the heavy metal were determined in a total of 319 samples of 11 species of the fresh water fish and 14 species of the shellfish by mercury analyzer and atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results of this study were summerized as follows; The average contents of the heavy metal in the fresh water fish were Pb 0.075, Hg 0.053, Cd 0.002, Cr 0.135, Fe 8.695, Mn 1.078, Zn 9.491, Cu 0.548 mg/ kg. The average contents of the heavy metal in the shellfish were Pb 0.059, Hg 0.007, Cd 0.146, Cr 0.147, Fe 40.808, Mn 7.738, Zn 13.943, Cu 2.731 mg/kg. Being compared the average contents of the heavy metal of the fresh water fish with those of shellfish, the average contents of Cd, Fe, Mn, Cu in the shellfish were significantly higher than in the fresh water fish(P$lt;0.001). Depending on the sampling areas, the average contents of the heavy metal were different by districts. The contents of the heavy metal were changed with the seasons(P$lt;0.05).

This study was conducted to determine the content of heavy metals in canned foods and soft drinks available on the Korean markets. Trace metals (Pb, Cr, Cd, and Sn) were detected in 24 kinds, 120 samples by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The average concentration of heavy metals in canned foods was in the order of Sn (6.930 ppm)$gt;Cr (0.050 ppm)$gt;Pb (0.030 ppm)$gt;Cd (0.008 ppm), which was the same order in soft drinks as Sn (3.519 ppm)$gt;Cr (0.080 ppm)$gt;Pb (0.024 ppm)$gt;Cd (0.001 ppm). The total contents of heavy metals in canned fruits and fiuit juices were relatively higher than those in cans and drinks made of vegetable and fish. It can be supposed that the high acidity owing to the organic acid of fruit itself promotes to extract metals from can materials, and although fish usually contains more heavy metals than vegetables, canned fish revealed low level because internal organs and most of skin which had more heavy metals than meat were removed throughout canning process. Because processed foods such as canned foods and soft drinks are very popular with the children and adolescence according to the change of life style and eating habit, and the possibility of exposure to heavy metals by the habitual intake of these is increasing simultaneously, it is suggested that more practical study about the process of exposure and the amount in each step is needed for the assessment of safety.

Through the five years analysis of monitoring data on pesticide residues from 1998 to 2002, current status on pesticide residues on commercial agricultural products in Seoul area was evaluated. The rate of over maximum residue limits(MRLs) has been decreased into 5.8% in 1998, 2.5% in 1999, 1.6% in 2000, 1.4% in 2001, and 1.5% in 2002 gradually, where as total sample numbers analyzed increased 1,300 in 1998, 4,200 in 1999, 5740 in 2000, 6,160 in 2001, and 5,440 in 2002 annually. The pesticide which frequently detected in samples were endosulfan, procymidone, chlorotalonil, vinclozolin, and chlorpyriphos and pesticide found over MRLs were procymidone, vinclozolin, endosulfan and etc.
