        Quality improvement and product development time shortening can be achieved by prevention steps of the various problem happening in the manufacturing stage. One of the most important prevention steps is the simulation of the capability of production and assembly by using 3D CAD Models, that is, Digital Mockup. This study aims to develop the web-based digital mockup environment which supports the collaboration between the small and medium sized enterprises of automotive industrial. The developed system can be applied in the case when the mockup simulation between different CAD systems is needed.

        BPM 기반의 협업허브 2.0 설계와 구현

        The collaboration hub has been developed since 2004 as an online collaboration space, which supports the various collaborative works amongst small and medium enterprises using information sharing, collaboration project management, and project history management. Because of the change of manufacturing environment and rapid development of information technologies, it should be evolved from the existing version called Collaboration Hub 1.0. Recently, a lot of manufacturing enterprises know the importance of business process management(BPM) and start to introduce BPM systems. Our research group has developed the new version of Collaboration Hub 1.0 called Collaboration Hub 2.0 which contains the BPM concept, the consistent product data management, and the specialized functions overcoming the various variation of manufacturing. This study scrutinizes the meaning and role of the Collaboration Hub 2.0 and introduces an application study of it to the value chain of automobile module development consisted of a leading company and subcontractors. The case study covers the definition, execution and monitoring of collaboration process, the specialized functions overcoming the manufacturing variation and the key performance index of collaboration business.

        제조기업의 협업화 분석 및 협업시스템 구축기술 도출

        Customer needs for final products are very unpredictable because product specifications and technologies are being improved very quickly thereby their requirement level is also elevated correspondingly. In order to survive and to enhance competitiveness in the global market, many manufacturing companies are trying to find a breakthrough from collaborization. Even though they want to collaborate with others, however, they do not exactly know what kind of system they have to develop or which technology they have to use. In this paper, therefore, we first investigate status and trend of information systems and infrastructure that are essential for collaboration. We then clearly describe definition and classification of collaboration with various point of views considering collaboration pattern, timing condition of collaborative activities, organizational structure, etc. With web-based collaboration systems already developed by i-Manufacturing (Korean-style Manufacturing Innovation) project, led by Korean government from 2004, we introduce main functions and analyze collaboration types of each system. Strategically important technologies for supporting collaboration will also be illustrated by reorganizing collaborization technologies after evaluating them with respect to emergency and importance of each technology. We hope this research will provide a guideline on collaboration especially for small and medium sized manufacturing companies.

      • 고압절삭유를 이용한 인코넬 718 절삭가공의 공구마모 분석

        Despite of low machinability of Inconel 718, its demand keeps increasing and many researches on the improvement of Inconel 718 machinability are being presented recently. The most serious problem on machining Nickel-based alloys is known to competitively short tool life. Many studies pointed out that the extremely high temperature near the cutting edge of a tool caused the short tool life. High pressure coolant was introduced as a good strategy for cooling the cutting tool edge, which could increase the cutting tool life. This paper presents the experimental results of milling Inconel 718 with high pressure coolant focusing on tool wear characteristics. Flank wear of used cutting tools after machining in various cutting conditions are measured and compared. General flood coolant case and high pressure coolant case are mainly compared. Uncoated insert case and PVD coated insert case are also compared and the wear maps for each case are presented. The experimental results show that the tool wear decreases 23% in the case of high pressure coolant case with PVD coated inserts, that is, tool life increases 11% in the same cutting condition.

        제조기업 간 협업프로세스 실행 기술

        Recently, business process management has become an important concept to define and execute business process. During the execution of the collaborative business processes defined by the consensus with manufacturing enterprises, a lot of variations can be occurred by various internal and external factors related to business. From this reason, manufacturing enterprises have tried to seek for a technology to define and execute the collaborative business process systematically under the dynamic situations approving process variation. This study defines the collaborative business process among manufacturing enterprises at first and proposes its execution technology under the dynamic situations. Here, the proposed execution technology includes the authority management of each process, sub-process, and activity for security, the forced execution of the incomplete process containing the undefined sub-process, the re-execution in a certain range of business process for correcting errors, and the dynamic selection of sub-process. Furthermore, this study implements a prototype system to check the validity of its application under the dynamic situations.

        Unpredictable customer demands make manufacturers to make quality products with cheaper price and shorter delivery. To survive in the global market, the manufacturing industry needs to equip with advanced technologies including IT. Under this situation, collaborationis the best solution for manufacturers to survive and to grow their company instead of competition. With this strategy, we have conducted a project(e-Manufacturing). The companies participate to the project attained the amazing results by utilizing collaboration systems such as delivery shortened and increase in sale/profit. Since the strategy of the project is assessed to be very useful to increase competition power of manufacturers, the project will be enlarged to cover wider application domains with a new project name called i-Manufacturing. In this paper, therefore, we introduce the specific output from the e-Manufacturing project and the specific strategies/plans of i-Manufacturing project.

        The rapid development of information technology (IT) has affected whole areas of industries. Especially in manufacturing industry, it helps enterprises deal with various requirements of customers and frequent variations of manufacturing environment and is leading the technology of collaboration among enterprises. The technology of manufacturing collaboration started from the first Industrial Revolution pulled down the wall of physical size, space, and speed going through the second Industrial Revolution and digital revolution. This study forecasts the future direction of collaboration technology in manufacturing industry according to the size, space, and speed of collaboration and proposes a new paradigm of manufacturing collaboration including the concept of business process management (BPM), social network, smartness, and sustainability. Finally it also implements a prototype system of manufacturing collaboration as a feasibility study to show the validity of the proposed collaboration paradigm.

        Nowadays, much attention is being paid to topic map - a kind of searching method based on meanings - for a solution which helps people manage and integrate huge amount of technical information and retrieve correct ones fast and effectively. This paper proposed the integrated KMS (Knowledge Management System) of technical information needed when developing injection molds. Based on the results of injection molding CAE analyses and the use-case models of the people who develop injection-molds, the technical knowledge management system was designed and constructed in the engineering collaborative hub. This system consists of the integrated ontology model of technical information utilizing topic map approach and the retrieval system based on meanings in the field of injection mold development. The ontology of the developed systems is updated automatically.

      • Manufacturing Innovation Strategy via On-line Collaboration

        Unpredictable and ever changing customer demands make manufacturers difficult to get competition power enough to survive in the global market. To meet customer requirements dynamically changed. the manufacturing industry of today needs to equip with advanced technologies based on substantial infrastructure. Especially most mold makers in Korea. for example. are in labor shortage and fund starvation. Even though they have any specialized technology. they usually get in trouble to compete with big companies. Under this situation. we found that "collaboration" is the best solution for them to survive and to get competition power. Therefore. we have launched and conducted a project. referred to as an e- Manufacturing project. Note that e- Manufacturing is referred to as a system methodology enabling the integration of manufacturing operations and functional objectives of an enterprise by using intelligent IT technologies such as Internet. tether-free communication methods including wireless networking or web-based connections. In order to provide on-line collaboration environment. we have developed five kinds of hub systems for collaborative design and production of molds as well as parts/modules of an automobile while conducting e-Manufacturing project funded by the Korea government. Since the outcomes by utilizing each hub system are evaluated to be very beneficial for increasing competition power of Korean small and medium size companies. the Korea government will launch more bigger project. referred to as "i-Manufacturing project" which include nor only e-Manufacturing as a title of "innovation by informatization" but manufacturing processes and systems. In this paper, therefore. we briefly introduce the outline of the e-Manufacturing project and the strategy of i-Manufacturing project with the outcomes of the e-Manufacturing project in 2006 as well.
