      • An Analysis of Quality Efficiency of Loan Consultants in a Bank using PCA-DEA Model

        We studied the efficiency of service quality of loan consultants contracted to a bank in Korea. Since the consultant is not an employee of the bank, he/she is paid solely in proportion to how much he/she sell loans. In this study, a consultant is considered as a decision making unit (DMU) in the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model. We use a principal component analysis-data envelopment analysis (PCADEA) model to evaluate quality efficiency of the consultants. In the first stage, we use PCA to obtain 6 synthetic indicators, including 4 input indicators and 2 output indicators, from survey results in which questionnaire items are constructed on the basis of SERVQUAL model. In the second stage, 3 DEA models allowing negative values are used to calculate the relative efficiency of each DMU. An example illustrates the proposed process of evaluating the relative quality efficiency of the loan consultants.

An example illustrates the proposed process of evaluating the relative quality efficiency of the loan consultants and how to use the efficiency to improve the service quality of the consultants.

        the present study, we investigated the antioxidant activity of methanol extract and its organic fractions (n-hexane,CH2Cl2, EtOAc, n-BuOH and H2O) of Capsiccum annuum leaves against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical. Asresults, methanol extract, and its ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions showed good scavenging efect at 100g/ml. Four com-pounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction through silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographies.         밤나무 꿀의 혈소판 응집 억제 효과

        Chestnut honey is a nutritive food with antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It has been used as a traditional medicine for ameliorating inflammation due to its antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities. However, its role in platelet activation has not been fully studied. Hence, we examined whether chestnut honey has a potent inhibitory effect on platelet aggregation and thrombus formation. The antiplatelet activities of chestnut honey were evaluated by platelet aggregation, granule secretion, intracellular Ca2+ mobilization, and thromboxane B2 generation. Thrombosis and bleeding time assay were employed to investigate the in vivo effect of chestnut honey (orally administered chestnut honey at 10 and 30 g/kg once daily for 7 days). We found that treatment with chestnut honey (3, 5, 10 mg/mL) significantly impaired collagen-induced platelet aggregation and αIIbβ3 integrin activation but not P-selectin exposure, intracellular Ca2+ mobilization, and thromboxan B2 generation during cell activation. Oral administration of chestnut honey efficiently ameliorates FeCl3-induced arterial thrombus formation without prolonging tail bleeding time, suggesting a beneficial potential of chestnut honey in thrombosis and hemostasis. Our results show that chestnut honey could have an antiplatelet and antithrombotic effect without hemostasis.

        Synergistic Effects of the Combination of Galangin with Gentamicin against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

        The antimicrobial killing activity toward methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been a serious emerging global issue. New effective antimicrobials and/or new approaches to settle this issue are urgently needed. The oriental herb, Alpinia officinarum, has been used in Korea for several hundreds of years to treat various infectious diseases. As it is well known, one of the active constituents of Alpinia officinarum is galangin. Against the 17 strains, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of galangin (GAL) were in the range of 62.5~125 μg/ml, and the MICs of gentamicin (GEN) ranged from 1.9 μg/ml to 2,000 μg/ml. The fractional inhibitory concentrations (FICs) of GAL, in combination with GEN, against 3 test strains were 0.4, 3.9, and 250 μg/ml, and were all 15.62 μg/ml in GEN. The FIC index showed marked synergism in the value range of 0.19 to 0.25. By determining time-kill curves, also confirmed the low synergism of the GAL and GEN combination against 4 h, 8 h, 12 h, and 24 h cultured MRSA. The time-kill study results indicated a low synergistic effect against 3 test strains. Thus, the mixture of GAL and GEN could lead to the development of new combination antibiotics against MRSA infection.

        Tetrahydropalmatine Inhibits Pro-Inflammatory Mediators in Lipopolysaccharide-Stimulated THP-1

        For centuries, Corydalis Rhizoma has been used in Korean traditional medicine. Tetrahydropalmatine is an alkaloid compound and a prominent anti-inflammatory agent found in plants, including Corydalis yanhusuo. However, the therapeutic mechanisms of tetrahydropalmatine are still not well understood. To provide insight into the biological effects of tetrahydropalmatine, we examined its influence on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced interleukin (IL)-8 production in the human monocytic cell line THP-1. In the present study, IL-8 production was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) activation, as determined by western blot analysis. Tetrahydropalmatine inhibited LPS-induced IL-8 production in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, tetrahydropalmatine inhibited extracellular signal-regulated kinase and p38 MAPK phosphorylation, which suggests that tetrahydropalmatine inhibits IL-8 secretion by blocking MAPK phosphorylation. Taken together, these findings may help elucidate the mechanism by which tetrahydropalmatine modulates THP-1 cell activation under inflammatory conditions

        Effect of Salvia plebeia Extract on Patients with Solid Cancer: A Preliminary Clinical Trial Protocol

        Objective : The purpose of this trial is to observe the preliminary effects of Salvia plebeia (SP) extract on quality of life in patients with solid cancer. Methods : This is a prospective, open-label, single-arm, and single-dose clinical trial. Twenty participants who have been diagnosed with solid cancer between the ages of 20 and 65 will be included. All participants will be administered SP granules for 12 weeks. Data will be collected at 4, 8, and 12 weeks after enrollment. The primary outcome is quality of life, using the Korean version of the Functional Assessment Cancer Therapy-General questionnaire. Secondary outcomes include tumor markers in blood tests for each cancer type, soluble programmed death-ligand 1, the percentage of natural killer cells among lymphocytes, ratio of T-helper and T-suppressor cells, ratio of total T, T-helper, T-suppressor, and B cells in lymphocytes, level of C-reactive protein, and tumor size via radiology examination. Safety will be assessed by clinical laboratory tests and monitoring of adverse events. Discussion : This study aims to observe the effects of an oral administration of SP preparations in patients with solid cancer on changes in quality of life and an improvement in immune function. It is expected to provide objective evidence of the effect and safety of SP for patients with solid cancer. Trial registration: KCT0007315 (Clinical Research Information Service)

        십구외(十九畏)에 관한 고찰

        Nineteen Medicaments of Mutual Antagonism currently belong to pharmaceutical incompatibility and some of them cannot be used in a same prescription: if they are used in a prescription, the treatment effect is rather reduced or toxic response may be produced. Therefore. inthisstudy, it was intended to look about how Nineteen Medicaments of Mutual Antagonism were defined through survey of literatures and to review the meaning and clinical potential. According to "Sinnongbonchogyeong," "Medicaments contain the substance that suppress toxins and the toxins may be removed with use of mutual restraint or mutual detoxication substances" and they have been used in terms of this concept. Since Tang and Song era, mutual restraint and mutual inhibition were confused and were difficult to be distinguished. In terms of pharmaceutical incompatibility, the original meaning of mutual restraint was deteriorated in "Sinnongbonchogyeong". That is. mutual restraint has been used as the concept of mutual inhibition or incompatibility. When various literatures were reviewed. it could be found that Nineteen Medicaments of Mutual Antagonism were firstly included in the phrases of songs and then in "seven emotion." It could be supposed that Nineteen Medicaments of Mutual Antagonism was created based on the clinical experiences of the author and the influence of doctors. Such supposition means indicates that the interactions among medicaments could effectively be applied and mutual restraint did not belong to pharmaceutical incompatibility. However. many doctors used mutual restraint and mutual inhibition in clinical practice with no distinguishment since Song era and. especially, it is supposed that. when medicaments were used with mixing. the pharmaceutical incompatibility of "Nineteen Medicaments of Mutual Antagonism" or "Eighteen Incompatible Medicaments" were emphasized and influenced on the efficacy of pharmaceutical preparations or acted as an obstacle in treating diseases. That is. an error was transferred: mutual restraint and mutual inhibition were not distinguished and were discretionally added or deleted through common people or professionals with no specific verification. The pharmaceutical preparations that belong to Nineteen Medicaments of Mutual Antagonism belong to pharmaceutical incompatibility but. when reviewed various literatures and clinical reports. they are not thought to be the ones that can never be used. Therefore. systematic literature review and experimental research should be performed.
