In order to study the infuence of Sb addition on the compacted vermicular graphite cast iron(C/V) and gray cast iron(GC), these specimen which had different Sb content(0-0.l wt.%) were prepared. these specimen were tested for microstructure and mechanical properties. The result from this study are as follows. For C/V and GC, the microstructure of graphite appeared to be finer with increasing Sb content more than 0.06wt.%. Ferrite disappeared from the matrix with addition of Sb more than 0.06wt. % in GC and more than 0.08wt.% in C/V. The size of the eutectic cell in GC was 4.5 to 7 times larger than that in C/V, but the decreasing tendancy of its size was more remarkable in GC than in C/V with increasing Sb content. The abrasion speed corresponding to the maximum amount of abrasion in the nabrasion test was found to be 1.37m/sec. GC sample weared 3.6 to 21 times faster than those of C/V did. the amount of abrasion demeased remarkably with Sb addition, and the abrasion rate was constant with Sb content over 0.04wt.%.

It is very important to obtain gray and C/V irons with completely pearlitic structure by audition a small amount of Sb. In this study, a small amount of Sb(0.0 - 0.10%) that is powerful pearlite stabilizer was added in gray and C/V iron respectively, and inspected it's effects on the microstructure, machinability and mechanical properties. The results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. For gray and C/V iron, the microstructure of graphite appeared to be finer in accordance with increasing of Sb content more than 0.06%. 2. The ferritic structure disappeared from the matrix in accordance with addition of Sb more than 0.06% in gray iron and more than 0.08% in C/V iron. 3. The size of eutectic cells an gray iron was 4.5 to 7 times larger than that in C/V iron, but the decreasing tendency of it's size was more remarkable in gray iron than in C/V iron in accordance with Increasing of Sb content. 4. Machinability of gray and C/V Iron tended Ito decrease in accordance with increasing of Sb content.

In this study, 4 melts of Boron added steel were according to it's content (0, 0.004, 0.006, 0.008%) Each melt were casted to Y-Block CO_2 mold respecitively, and its effects on the microstructure, mechanical properties and hardenability. The result obtained from this study are as follows. 1. Boron Carbide precipited on the grainboundary shows fine dispersion, but it has adverse influence on microstructure if the amount is over 0.004% 2. With increasing Boron content, the Boron-carbide volume fraction was increase.

It is very important to obtain wear resistant and high strength steel by addition a small amount of Boron. In this study, 4 melts of B-added steel were made according to it's content(0-0.008wt.%). Each melt were casted to Y-shaped CO2 mold respectively, and inspected it's effects on the microstructure, mechanical properties and hardenability. The result obtained from this study are as follows. 1. The hardenability of steel is improved by Boron by Boron adding untill the range of 0.004%, but decreased if it's amount is over 0.004%. 2. Boron carbide precipitated on the grainboundary shows fine dispersion, but it has adverse influence on microstructure if the amount is over 0.004%.
