1. Objectives The purpose of this case study is to evaluate the effects of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang which is based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine for strabismus of abducence nerve paralysis. 2. Methods This patient was created by Soyangin's Constitutional Medications according to the result of Sasang Constitutional diagnosis. We evaluated the abduction deficit that described how to use Scott and kraft. 3. Results & Conclusions This case study shows an efficient result of using Yangkyuksanhwa-tang in treatment of Strabismus of abducence nerve paralysis.

사상체질별 혈중지질, 소화효소 및 갑상선 호르몬의 비교 연구

1. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the serum lipid, digestive enzymes, thyroid hormone of each Sasang type groups which were classified by Sasang medicine specialist. 2. Methode: The subjects were 1084 (male:female=399:685) person with 371 of Taeeum type, 324 of Soeum type, 389 of Soyang type after the Sasang type classification. The blood samples of the 1084 subjects were to analyze the serum lipid(triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol), digestive enzymes(lipase, amylase), thyroid hormone(T3, TSH). The general linear model (SPSS 12.0) were used for the analysis. 3. Results: Taeeum type group ($133.50\pm89.84$, $189.41\pm33.11$, $107.29\pm28.66$) showed significantly higher triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol than other two group. In digestive enzymes(lipase, amylase), we found significant differences in the order of Soeum>Soyang>Taeeum. Soeum type group($116.23\pm21.38$) has lower T3 than Soyang type group ($119.90\pm21.60$) with marginal significance (p=0.066). 4. Conclusions: The Results of present study showed that Taeeum type showed significantly highest in triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol. Soeum type showed significantly highest in digestive enzymes. Blood sample of each Sasang type group will serve as an important evidence for further study showing that the Sasang typology has biological basis.

Objectives This research was proposed to present Clinical Practice Guideline(CPG) for Taeeumin Disease of Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM): Esophagus Cold-based Exterior Cold (Wiwansuhan-pyohan) disease. This CPG was developed by the national-wide experts committee consisting of SCM professors. Methods First, collection and organization of literature related to SCM such as Donguisusebowon, Text book of SCM, Clinical Guidebook of SCM and Fundamental research to standardize diagnosis of Sasang Constitutional Medicine was performed. Secondly, journals related to clinical trial or Human complementary medicine of SCM were searched. Finally, 7 articles were selected and included in CPG for Esophagus Cold-based Exterior Cold (Wiwansuhan-pyohan) disease. Results & Conclusions The CPG of Esophagus Cold-based Exterior Cold (Wiwansuhan-pyohan) disease in Taeeumin Disease include classification, definition and standard symptoms of each pattern. Esophagus Cold-based Exterior Cold (Wiwansuhan-pyohan) disease consists of two aspects : Esophagus-Cold (Wiwanhan) and Esophagus-Cold Lung-Dry (Wiwanhan-paejo) symptomatology. Esophagus-Cold (Wiwanhan) symptomatology is classified into mild and moderate pattern by severity. Mild pattern of Esophagus-Cold (Wiwanhan) symptomatology is classified into Supraspinal Exterior (Baechu-pyo) initial and Wheezing-Dyspnea (Hyocheon) pattern. Moderate pattern of Esophagus-Cold (Wiwanhan) symptomatology is classified into Cold-reversal (Hanguel) and Cold-reversal (Hanguel) advanced pattern. And Esophagus-Cold Lung-Dry (Wiwanhan-paejo) symptomatology is classified into severe and critical pattern by severity. Severe pattern of Esophagus-Cold Lung-Dry (Wiwanhan-paejo) is classified into Dry-Cold (Johan) pattern and Dry-Cold (Johan) advanced pattern. Critical pattern of Esophagus-Cold Lung-Dry (Wiwanhan-paejo) symptomatology consists of Dry-Cold (Johan) intense pattern (Eumhyeol-mogal handa pattern).

Objectives: This purpose of this case is to report that a soeumin patient diagnosed as pleural effusion was treated with Sibimiguanjung-tang and then her symptoms and result of chest X-ray and R-lab improved 2. Methods: We diagnosed the patient as Soeumin-Taeum-byung(少陰人太陰病). So we treated her with Sibimiguanjung-tang 3. Results: After we treated the patient with Sibimiguanjung-tang, her symptoms and result of chest X-ray and R-lab improved 4. Conclusions: This case study show an efficient result of using Sibimiguanjung-tang in Soeumin diagnosed to pleural effusion.

소양인 형방도적산과 양격산화탕의 항 스트레스효과에 관한 실험적 연구

1. Objective This study was done to identify the anti-stress effect of Hyeongbangdojeok-san (HDS), Yanggyeoksanhwa-tang(YST) in Soyangin. 2. Methods Experimental animals were composed of YST, HDS+stress groups which were administered each by 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg and the Saline+stress group. On the 1st day, making the rats forced swim and on the 2nd day, applying Forced swimming test to the rats. After FST, the levels of Corticosterone in the blood were measured. For the study of learning retardation, memory ability and anxiety reaction, experimental animals were composed of YST, HDS+restraint stress groups which were administered each by 400mg/kg, no stress group and the Saline+restraint stress group. Restraint stress were applied 2 hours a day for 3 weeks. On the last day of the 3rd week, Elevated Plus Maze(EPM) was applied to the groups and Morris Water Maze(MWM) was applied to the groups for 7 days. 3. Results 1. As the results of measuring FST which reflects depression, the YST+stress group and the HDS+stress group showed significant effect in comparison with the Saline+stress group. The levels of Corticosterone in the blood were decreased only in the 400mg/kg YST+stress group. 2. As the results of measuring how long EPM which reflects anxiety reaction stayed in the open arm, there was the trend which can suppress anxiety reaction in the HDS+restraint stress group bur no statistical significance. But there was any suppression of anxiety reaction in the YST+restraint stress group. 3. According to the result of MWM, the saline+restraint stress group showed the learning retardation which means increased time arriving at goal compared to the normal group at the second and third day of measurement. On the contrary, a learning retardation was significantly decreased in the YST+restraint stress group at the third day of measurement. 4. Among the Probe trial test a memory loss occurred in the saline+restraint stress group, but memory ability was significantly increased in the YST+restraint stress group. 4. Conclusion: As the results above, Soyangin Yanggyeoksanhwa-tang has significant influence to the antidepression effect, the learning retardation, the anxiety reaction and also in the Hormone level. Hyeongbangdojeok-san has significant influence to the antidepression effect, in the Hormone level, bur not to the learning retardation and anxiety reaction. prefer to drink cold water, and who are suffering from chronic gastritis.

시스플라틴으로 유발된 랫트의 위장관 운동장애에 대한 태음조위탕의 효과

Objectives This study aimed to observe the effect of Taeumjowi-tang on the cisplatin-induced gastrointestinal dysfunctions in rats. Methods Four groups, each of 8 rats per group, were used in this study. Saline and distilled water treated control rats were intact vehicle control group. Delayed gastrointestinal motility was induced by intraperitoneal treatment of cisplatin 2mg/kg, once a week for 5 weeks(Cisplatin control group). Taeumjowi-tang aqueous extracts(TJ) were orally administered in a volume of 5ml/kg, once a day for 14 days from 4th cisplatin treatment(TJ group). Ondansetron 1mg/kg was subcutaneously treated, in a volume of 1ml/kg, as same as TJ(ondansetron group). We measured the body weights, intestinal charcoal transit ratio, fecal parameters, fundus MDA(malondialdehyde), GSH(glutathione) contents and SOD(superoxide dismutase), CAT(catalase) activities, TPH(tryptophanhydroxylase) and MAO(monoamine oxidase) activities, pyloric gastrin and serotonin contents with their immunoreactive cells, colonic serotonin-immunoreactive cells, the histopathology of pylorus, fundus mucosa and colon. Results 1) The body weight gains, the small intestinal charcoal transfer rates, the fecal parameters(numbers, weights and water contents) were increased in TJ, ondansetron group. 2) The inhibit of fundus antioxidant defense systems by cisplatin were decreased in TJ, ondansetron group. 3) The pyloric TPH activities were increased and the pyloric MAO activities were decreased in TJ group. 4) The pyloric gastric contents and the gastrin-immunoreactive cells were increased and the pyloric serotonin contents and the pyloric and colonic serotonin-immunoreactive cells were decreased in TJ group. 5) The pylorus atrophic changes and the gastric surface erosive damage regions by cisplatin were favorably inhibited by treatment of TJ group. Conclusions The results obtained in this study suggest that TJ favorably retarded the cisplatin related GI(gastrointestinal) dysfunctions and constipation through modulations of GI enterochromaffin cells, serotonin and gastrin-producing cells and antioxidative systems.

열다한소탕(熱多寒少湯)으로 호전된 태음인(太陰人) 대상포진(帶狀疱疹) 치험 1례

1. Objectives : The Purpose of this case is to report that a Tae-eumin patient diagnosed as Herpes Zoster was treated with Yeoldahanso-tang and then his symptoms improved. 2. Methods : We diagnosed the patient as Tae-eumin-Kanyeol-byung(太陰人肝熱病). So we treated him With Yeoldahanso-tang, and used Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and pictures of the affected part for the assessment. 3. Results : After we treated the patient with Yeoldahanso-tang, the vesicles were cleared and his symptoms improved. 4. Conclusions : This case study show an efficient result of using Yeoldahanso-tang in Tae-eumin diagnosed to Herpes Zoster.

소양인(少陽人) 주요(主要) 처방(處方) 간의 성격(性格) 및 소증(素證) 차이(差異)에 관한 연구(硏究)

Objectives The purpose of this study was to survey the Personality and Ordinary Symptoms of Soyangin and to compare the tendency of their personality and symptoms according to Soyangin's major prescription. Methods 331 Soyangin's personality and ordinary symptoms data registered to SCIB(Sasang Constitutional Information Bank) were used. All data were analyzed with Chi square test. Some data were ranked and analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test(with Bonferroni correction). Chi square and Kruskal-Wallis test's significant P value was 0.05. Mann-Whitney test's significant P value was 0.005. Results & Conclusions In Chi square test, there is difference in personality and symptoms in Soyangin's major prescription as followed, the degree of masculinity and femininity, the degree of patience, the condition of stool, the degree of appetite, good or bad in digesting, amount of meal, the speed of eating, amount of drinking water, the temperature of drinking water, coldness and hotness in abdomen or not. In Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test, Yanggyuksanhwa-tang is more masculine than Dokhwaljihwang-tang, Hyeongbangsabaek-san, Hyeongbangjihwangtang. Dokhwaljihwang-tang is less appetite than Yanggyuksanhwa-tang and Hyeongbangsabaek-san. Yanggyuksanhwa- tang is more fast in eating than Hyeongbangjihwang-tang.
