We report a novel simulation method to calculate optical transmission considering the real paths of optic introduced in a unit pixel of TFT-LCDs using three-dimensional molecular director simulation of the tensor model. The simulation of optical path transmission profile was carried out by calculating new permittivity considered the real paths of optic in liquid crystal cell. As a result, it was clarified that the electro-optic characteristics such as movement of disclination line, contrast ratio and transmittance profile show a large difference according to the viewing angle compared with the conventional method.
Explaining the Relationship between Exchange Rate Volatility and International Trades

In this study, we re-examine the effect of exchange rate volatility on the United States’ bilateral real exports to Canada, South Korea, and Mexico using recent econometric techniques. In this effect, we use the exchange rate volatility as measured by the Markov switching-variance process. To identify the sign of the causal effects, we use the Markov Switching Vector Autocorrelation (MS-VAR) model. This model produces mixed results. Canada, and Korea provide statistically significant, negative relationship between exchange rate variability and trade but Mexico does not.

This paper explains the feedback effect between the volatility of price variables, such as inflation rate, the interest rate, and foreign exchange rate, and the domestic economic fluctuation of Korea. For example, we show that when the uncertainty of economic gross rate increases, the level of inflation increases as a result. Additionally, we adapted a new method of spillover index calculation which was originally developed by Diebold and Yilmaz (2009) to apply the volatility of price variables to Korea. The advantage of using our method is that we are able to apply low frequency macroeconomic data, in contrast with Diebold and Yilmaz' method, which is only applicable to high frequency data. From our method, we show that the volatility spillover sharply increases from 2001 to 2008, and right after the financial crisis, the volatility spillover is shown to decrease. 본 논문에서는 물가, 금리 혹은 환율과 같은 가격변수의 변동성이 증가하였을 때 국내 경기에 어떤 영향을 주고받았는지 상호효과(feedback effect)를 분석했다. 상호효과에 대한 실증분석의 결과, 경제성장률의 불확실성이 증가할 경우 인플레이션이 높아지는 현상을 확인하였다. 또한 고빈도 자료(high frequency data)간의 확산효과(spillover)를 분석한 Diebold and Yilmaz(2009) 모형을 저빈도 자료(low frequency data)인 거시경제변수에 적용할 수 있도록 보완한 모형을 이용하여 확산효과를 분석하였다. 이를 통해 거시경제변수의 변동성을 살펴본 결과 2001년 이후 동 변수들의 변동성 확산효과가 지속적인 상승세를 보이며 2008년 하반기 국제금융위기가 표출되는 시기에 정점에 이른 후 빠른 속도로 줄어드는 것으로 파악되었다.
비특이적 만성 허리통증 환자에게 체외충격파의 적용이 뒤넙다리근의 비대칭 및 허리 통증에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on asymmetric hamstring and back pain in patients with non-specific chronic back pain. Twenty-nine subjects with nonspecific chronic low back pain were classified into experimental group (n=15) and control group (n=14). Outcome measures included hamstring length, hamstring length difference, compensative lumbar flexion and rotation, hamstring thickness, disability index, and pain intensity. The experimental group performed extracorporeal shock wave and stretching technique twice a week for three weeks, and the control group performed the stretching technique twice a week for three weeks. Extracorporeal shock waves applied 4 pressure (0.37 mJ/mm), and 2,000 shocks to the hamstring with 10 Hz. Stretching techniques are applied after extracorporeal shock wave therapy. There was a significant difference of dependent variables in the experimental group, and in the control group, there was a significant difference except for lumbar rotation. In between-group comparison, the experimental group showed signifiacnlty greater lumbar flexion and thickness of biceps femoris compared to the control group. Based on these results, we recommend extracorporeal shock wave therapy as an intervention that can reduce compensatory lumbar rotation and lengthen shortened hamstrings.
외상성 흉추 척수손상 환자의 몸통근 강화 훈련이 앉기 균형과 몸통근육 근활성도에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of trunk muscle strengthening training on siting balance and electromyography (EMG) activities oof selected trunk muscles in patients with traumatic thoracic spinal cord injuries. Eighteen subjects volunteered to participate in this study, and they were randomly allocated into either experimental group (EG) or control group (CG), 9 in each. Outcome measures comprised the modified functional reach test (mFRT) distance (mm), the modified motor assessment scale (mMAS), and modified sitting balance score (mSBS). And EMG activities also were measured for pectoralis major, upper trapezius, latissimus dorsi, thoracic and lumbar erector spinae, and external oblique. Trunk muscle strengthening training was peformed average 30-min per day, 5 times a week for 6 weeks (a total of 30 sessions). Measurements were performed before and after the intervention. In between-group comparison, changes between pre- and post-test revealed significant differences in mFRT score (p<.05), and EMG data on upper trapezius, latissimus dorsi, lumbar erector spinae, and external oblique of the right (p<.05). In within-group comparison, the EG appeared to be significantly different in mFRT와 mMAS scores (p<.05), while the CG showed a significant difference in mFRT score (p<.05). Futhermore, for EMG data of each muscle, there was significantly different in lumbar erector spinae of the right (p<.05). These findings suggest that trunk muscle strengthening training may be advantageous to enhance sitting balance and the activities of trunk muscles in patients with traumatic thoracic spinal cord injuries. Further studies need to warrant these findings.
Investigation of emission characteristics affected by new cooling system in a diesel engine

In a typical cooling system of automotive engine, a mechanical water pump is used to control the flow rate of coolant. However, this traditional cooling system is not suitable for a high efficiency performance in terms of fuel economy and exhaust emission. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new technology for engine cooling systems. These days, the electronic water pump is spotlighted as the new cooling system of an engine. The new cooling system can provide more flexible control of the coolant flow rate and the engine temperature, which used to be strongly relied on the engine driving conditions such as load and speed. In this study, an engine experiment was carried out on a New European Drive Cycle (NEDC) with a 2.7L diesel engine. The electric water pump operated by BLDC motor and the electronic valve were installed in the cooling system to control the coolant flow rate and temperature. This paper explains that the exhaust emissions were reduced with an increase in the engine temperature and a decrease in the coolant flow. From this experiment, we found that increasing coolant temperature had a significant effect on reducing the emissions (e.g. THC and CO). Decreasing coolant flow also affected the reduction of emissions. In contrast, NOx emission was observed to increase in these conditions.
