        Latest research and development trends in non-insulin anti-diabetics

        Type 2 diabetes mellitus, also called noninsulindependent diabetes mellitus, is a chronic endocrinedisease characterized by insulin resistance in tissues suchas fat, liver and skeletal muscle, and impaired insulinsecretion in pancreatic b cells. The prevalence and incidenceof type 2 diabetes exploded over last decades alongwith increased population obesity owing to western lifestylefactors such as lack of exercise and high calorie diets. As diabetes progresses without appropriate treatment,many micro- and macro-vascular complications occur,leading to increased risk of mortality. Although lifestylemodifications including a healthier diet and more frequentexercise are suggested as initial therapy for type 2 diabetes,pharmacotherapy is required in many cases. Currently,several anti-diabetic drugs with different mechanisms ofaction are available, but increased effectiveness and tolerabilityare a still unmet need for diabetes pharmacotherapy. Thus, the development of new anti-diabetic drugs is anactive research area in both academia and the pharmaceuticalindustry. This review focuses on the targets in thelatest developments of non-insulin anti-diabetics thatattract the most interest in this disease area.

        The Effects of Mathematical Inquiry Activities with Responsive Interactions on the Intelligence Development and the Vocabulary Abilities of Toddlers

        The purposes of this study are to examine the effects of the mathematical inquiry activities with responsive interactions on the intelligence development and the vocabulary abilities of toddlers. The subjects were 56 two-year-olds attending national or public day care centers in G City. The subjects were divided into two groups. The experimental group were given the mathematical inquiry activities twice a week. The teacher and toddlers had the responsive interactions during the mathematical inquiry activities. The results show positive effects of the mathematical inquiry activities on the intelligence development and the vocabulary abilities. Research results show that the mathematical inquiry activities with responsive interactions for two year old toddlers are feasible alternative educational models to improve the toddlers' cognitive ability.

        초등학생을 위한 소음 환경교육 프로그램의 개발과 적용

        This study was concentrated on the development of the effective noise environmental education program(NEEP) for elementary student. And through this program, the student who is remaining as a spector or has not active attitude for noise problems will be encouraged to solve the troubles spontaneously.The object of this study was the two classes in H elementary school where is near to the Daegu international airport. One class that is a group for experiment has five NEEP lessons during five weeks in the time for the creative discretional activities. The other class, which was compared with the experimental group was given no lessons.NEEP was made on the bases that are the contents related with noise in 7th elementary education policy and the data developed by previous researchers. This program is containing basic concepts for noise and the effects of noise problems on human body or studying in class. And after using NEEP, students became more sensitive for noise environments than previous. And also students showed the positive attitude for solving noise troubles.It was meaningful in the level of p<.001 that the result of noise knowledge and awareness in the pre-post test within experiment group. However, all of the results in comparison group didn't represent statistically meaningful difference. And there were meaningful differences between experiment and comparison group after carrying out NEEP.         영아의 수학적 탐색활동 실태 및 교사의 인식조사

        This study aims to determine teacher recognition of both the importance and practice of current mathematical inquiry activities provided for young toddlers in child care centers. Subjects were 160 child care teachers of young toddlers in Gwangju Metropolitan City. A questionnaire was developed from those used in similar studies and data analysis utilized the SPSS program, t-test, χ2, and an F-test. The survey rating terms were: important, adequate, and problem. The findings of this study are summarized as follows: First, teaching practices were not rated as successful though the teachers rated the activities as highly important. However teachers noted that teacher training may be needed to learn how to offer challenging mathematical inquiry activities. Second, teachers noted that they already provide mathematics inquiry activities, but the type they use depends mostly on voluntary participation activities which do not require instruction and/or support from teachers. Third, teachers indicated that they very much wanted to improve their teaching practices for mathematical inquiry activities. These findings have implications for mathematical inquiry practices as well as for the kind of training available to teachers. In sum, innovative mathematical inquiry activities for young toddlers need to be developed and teacher professional development should focus on learning to implement sound inquiry activities in early mathematics education effectively. 본 연구의 목적은 영아보육기관에서의 영아의 수학적 탐색활동에 대한 실태와 교사의 인식을 살펴봄으로써 영아의 수학 교수-학습 방법 개발을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는데 있다. 이를 위해 G시와 J도의 보육시설 영아반 교사 160명의 응답을 분석하였다. 영아반 연령과 교사변인에 따른 차이를 보기 위해 χ2검증, t검증, F검증을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 영아반 교사들은 영아의 수학적 탐색활동의 중요성을 인식하고 있지만 수학적 탐색활동은 영아의 자연발생적인 탐색에 의존하고 있으며, 교사의 지도는 미흡하였으며, 전직·현직 교사교육이 필요하다는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 본 연구의 결과는 영유아 교육 및 보육현장에서 영아의 수학적 탐색활동이 효율적으로 실시되기 위하여 활동과정에서 영아-교사 상호작용, 탐색놀잇감의 개발, 교사교육의 기회가 제공되어야 함을 시사하고 있다.

        맞벌이 가정 아동의 스트레스와 문제행동 감소를 위한 미술치료 사례연구

        본 연구는 맞벌이 가정 아동을 대상으로 미술치료가 스트레스와 문제행동 감소에 미치는 효과를 알아보는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 대상자는 맞벌이 가정 아동으로, 주로 가정에서 문제행동을 보이며 본인 스스로는 스트레스가 많다고 호소하고 있다. 아동은 S 시에 소재한 D 초등학교 4학년에 재학 중인 여자아이로, 매주 1회 50분씩, 총 20회기로 프로그램을 진행하였다. 측정 도구는 K-CBCL 6-18로 학령기 아동과 청소년의 문제행동을 측정하는 검사와 주은숙(2005)이 사용한 스트레스 지각검사, 투사검사로는 빗속의 사람 그림 검사로 손무경(2007)이 번안한 채점 체계를 사용하여 사전․사후 비교 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스트레스 검사의 하위영역 점수가 전체적으로 감소하여 긍정적인 변화를 보였다. 둘째, 문제행동 검사의 하위영역 중 규칙 위반, 불안 우울 점수가 감소하여 긍정적인 변화를 보였다. 이는 가정 내에서보다 원활한 상호작용이 이루어지도록 하고 올바른 정서 인식 표현과 자유로운 감정 발산을 통해 부정적인 감정을 해소하고, 자신의 감정 또는 분노를 잘 다룰 수 있는 능력을 길러주어 아동의 스트레스 및 문제행동 감소에 긍정적인 변화가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대하여 논의하였다. This study aimed to investigate the effects of art therapy on the reduction of stress and abnormal behaviors of children in dual-income families. The subject of this study was a child of a dual-income family who is mainly having abnormal behaviors at home and complains of a high level of stress. The client, a fourth-grade girl at D Elementary School in S. City, participated in the program for 50 minutes once a week for 20 sessions. The measurement tools were K-CBCL 6-18, which was used for the test to measure the abnormal behavior of school-aged children and adolescents, the stress perception test used by Joo Eun-sook (2005), and the projection test for the person in the rain. The results of this study were as follows: First, all of sub-criteria of the stress test were reduced as a whole, in a positive way. Second, the sub-criteria of the abnormal behavior test showed a decrease in violation and anxiety depression scores. These results show that the reduction of stress and abnormal behaviors in children can be achieved through art therapy so that children have smoother interactions with their families and can express and stay aware of their own emotions. In other words, art therapy helps children develop the ability to deal with their anger, stress, and abnormal behavior. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study are discussed.

        진로단절 위기를 경험한 중도장애 중년 남성의 외상 후 성장에 관한 생애사연구

        본 연구의 목적은 외상 후 성장을 경험한 남성 중도 보행장애인의 진로 생애사를 통해 외상 사건 전과 외상 사건 이후 삶의 변화 과정을 분석함으로써 적응 및 성장 요인을 발견하는 것이다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위해 2차에 걸친 심층 면담을 통하여 자료를 수집하고, 진로와 외상으로 인한 경험을 중심으로 Mandelbaum(1973)의 분석틀에 따라 ‘삶의 영역’, ‘전환점’, ‘적응’의 범주로 나누어 분석하였다. 그 결과 ‘삶의 영역’은 <탐 나는 우레탄 전문가>, <‘워크홀릭’; 오로지 ‘일’뿐 이었던 신혼, 그리고 삶>, <생존 현장에서의 고독한 ‘전사’>, <세상에 오직 하나뿐인 ‘태양’>, <또 하나의 심장; 열정과 무모함>으로 나타났으며, ‘전환점’은 <무너진 척추; 흔들리는 삶의 중심>, <잃어버린 ‘나’; 희망과 절망의 끝과 끝을 오가는 ‘그네타기’>, <세상 안의 존재; ‘걸을 수 없다’는 것은>으로, 마지막 ‘적응’은 <나를 지탱해 주는 또 다른 ‘지팡이’; 가족>, <‘장애인’의 아들인 공장장님>, <그리고 ‘나’, 쌍지팡이 보행장애 ‘찍사’>로 도출되었다. 참여자는 일 중심적인 삶을 살아오면서 해당 분야의 대체 불가한 독보적 인재로 살아가는 과정에서 외상 사건을 겪고 보행장애를 입게 되면서 자신의 삶과 진로에서 위기를 경험하게 되지만, ‘가족’을 삶에 중심에 두고 ‘자기 이해’를 통해 살아가야 할 의미를 찾고, 무엇보다 장애인 아버지를 둔 직장 상사의 지지로 진로단절의 위기에서도 성장을 이루게 된다. 본 연구 결과에 따라 외상 후 성장을 위해서 ‘충분한 자기 이해와 인식을 통한 실존의 의미와 삶의 의미 발견’의 중요성과 중도장애인의 진로 및 고용유지를 위해서 ‘직장 내 장애인에 대한 인식’의 중요성을 발견하였고, 이는 중도장애인 상담 개입과 고용촉진을 위한 정책 및 지원방안에 관련하여 중요한 시사점을 제공하고 있다고 볼 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to discover growth factors by analyzing the process of life changes before and after trauma events through the career history of a man with walking disability who has experienced post-traumatic growth. For this purpose, the data collected through two in-depth interview were analyzed into categories of ‘dimension of life’, ‘turning point’, and ‘adaptation’ based on life-history analysis framework by Mandelbaum(1973). The results of this study are as follows: first, ‘dimension of life’ of the study participant was <the wanted urethane expert>, <‘workholic’: honeymoon period and life of nothing but work>, <a lone warrior on the scene of survival>, <the only Sun in the sky> and <another ‘heart’: passion and intrepidity>. Second, ‘turning point’ was <the collapsed vertebra: the precarious pivot of life>, <missing ‘myself’: ‘swing’ between hope and despair> and <being in the world: What is the meaning of ‘walking disability’ like>. Third, ‘adaptation’ was <another ‘cane’ as support that sustains me>, <the factory manager that has the disabled father> and <also ‘myself’: the photographer carrying two canes with walking disability>. This participant experienced crises by walking disability in his life as an irreplaceable talent in the automobile seat manufacture, but he got over the crisis of career interruption finding out the meaning of his life through ‘self-understanding’ by putting his ‘family’ at the center of his life, and above all, being supported by the factory manager that had the disabled father. The results showed the importance of ‘discovering the meaning of life through sufficient self-understanding and self-awareness’ for post-traumatic growth, and the importance of ‘awareness of disabled people at work’ for maintaining employment of the severely disabled. This result can provide important implications for counseling for disabilities in the mid-life and supporting for their employment promotion.

        유아교사의 교수효능감과 전문성 인식 및 의사소통능력의 관계 연구

        This study was aimed to explore the relationships among teaching efficacy, professional recognition and communication competence of early childhood teachers. For this purpose, research questions were formulated as follows: Is there any relation between teaching efficacy and professional recognition of early childhood teachers? Is there any relation between teaching efficacy and communication competence of early childhood teachers? To what extent can teaching efficacy be predicted from professional recognition? To what extent can teaching efficacy be predicted from communication competence? The subjects of this study were 225 teachers who were working in kindergartens in G Metropolitan City and J Province. All participants were surveyed using 3 instruments: Teaching efficacy was measured by revising and supplementing the Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument developed by Enochs & Riggs (1990), professional recognition of early childhood teachers was measured by the instrument developed by Kyung Lee (2001) and Communication competence was measured by using the Global Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale (GICC) developed by Kyung-ho Huh (2003). Data was analyzed by Pearson’s r and multiple Regression analysis. The results showed that there were significant correlations between teaching efficacy and professional recognition, and between teaching efficacy and communication competence of early childhood teachers. Furthermore, professional recognition and communication competence are reliable predictors of teaching efficacy. We need to actively develop programs to increase early childhood teachers’ teaching efficacy through enhancing professional recognition and communication competence. 본 연구는 유아교사의 교수효능감, 전문성 인식 및 의사소통능력간의 관계를 분석하기 위하여 G광역시, J도 유치원 교사 225명을 연구대상으로 하였다. 수집된 자료는 Pearson 상관분석과 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 유아교사의 교수효능감과 전문성 인식, 교수효능감과 의사소통능력 간에 모두 정적인 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 교수효능감에 대한 교사 전문성 인식과 의사소통능력이 영향력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그 결과, 유아교사의 교수효능감에 영향을 주는 전문성 인식과 의사소통능력을 바탕으로 유아교사가 유아들을 효과적으로 교육하기 위한 기초자료를 구성하며, 교수효능감을 증진시키기 위한 구체적인 방안에 대하여 모색하고 이를 위한 교사교육 프로그램을 개발할 필요성이 제기된다.
