본고는 인공지능시대의 영성이라는 주제에 맞추어 세 작품의 핵심내용을 5항목씩 옴니버스 식으로 구성했다. 기술, 생물학, 신앙이라는 세 영역이 ‘기억’을 어떻게 이해하느냐를 살피고자 한 것이다. 오늘날의 관점에서 보면 정신과학으로서의 신학 그 자체는 그다지 발전한 것 같지 않다. 하지만 연구주제로 보면 4세기에 신학에서 이미 숙고된 내용이 21세기가 된 지금에야 기계공학이나 순수과학의 영역에서 실험되고 관찰되는 것처럼 여겨진다. 그것도 무척 빠른 속도로 발전하고 있고 조만간 괄목할 만한 성취가 예견되기도 한다. 하지만 성취의 예상범위를 극대화해도 신학적 상상력이 이미 도달한 해결에 미칠 것 같지는 않다. 자연과학적 연구가 전제하는 대상범위와 방법으로는 오히려 스스로가 제기한 질문조차 근본적으로 답하기 어려운 것처럼 보여 진다. 그것은 컴퓨터 공학이나 신경생물학이 인간을 아무리 파헤쳐도 인간의 의미질문이 해결될 것 같지 않기 때문이다. 그것은 이성적 합리성에 기반한 인문학적 접근에서도 불가능하기는 마찬가지이다. 그래서 인간성을 위협하는 기술시대인 지금에도 여전히 그러나 늘 새롭게 기독교 영성적 접근이 요청된다고 하겠다. 본고의 내용을 요약하면, 오늘날 과학기술적 발전이 고도로 집적된 인공지능이 인간의 지능을 모방하려 한다. 하지만, 기계인 컴퓨터가 인간의 신경구조를 따라잡으려면 아직 멀었다. 더욱이 인간의 뇌가 신경생물학적으로 해명된 것도 아니다. 오히려 신경생물학이나 컴퓨터가 해명할 수 없는 인간의 뇌의 작동원리는 신학적으로 더 잘 이해할 수 있는 것처럼 보인다. 아우구스티누스는 기도와 사색을 통해서 인간의 뇌의 활동인 기억의 비밀을 밝히고자 하였다. 컴퓨터 기술의 발전과 신경생물학의 기여는 신학적 영성의 빛에서 보다 통전적으로 해명될 수 있을 것이다. In accordance with the subject of spirituality in the era of artificial intelligence, this article composed the core contents of three works using an omnibus method for each five items. In other words, it sought to explore how three areas of technology, biology and religion understand memory . Seen from today s point of view, theology itself as one of spiritual sciences does not seem to have advanced so much. In terms of research subject, however, contents already deliberated in the 4th Century are deemed to be under test and observation as late as now in the 21st Century in the areas of mechanical engineering and pure science. They are advancing in a very fast tempo and are often expected to achieve remarkable accomplishments sooner or later. That said, though we may maximize the level of expected accomplishments, they don t seem to reach at the level of solution already done by theological imagination. It looks as if scope and methods assumed by natural science are unable to answer even the questions raised by themselves. It s because human s significant questions are not likely to be solved even though computer engineering or neurobiology seeks to delve into humans. It s also impossible by means of humanities and liberal arts that are based on reasonable rationality. That s why even in this era of technology threatening the humanity, Christian spiritual approach might be needed still and more than ever in a novel way. Summed up, in step with today s scientific and technical development, highly integrated artificial intelligence attempts to imitate human intelligence. And yet, it s a far cry for computers as a machine to catch up with human neuroanatomy. Moreover, human brain is not yet elucidated in terms of neurobiology. Rather, it seems the principle of operation of human brain could be better understood from the standpoint of theology. St. Augustinus sought to shed light to the secret of memory - activity of human brain - through prayers and meditations. Advancement of computer technology and contribution of neurobiology could be explained more holistically through the light of theological spirituality.
