肝纖維化過程의 血淸 N-Acetyl-β-D-Glucosaminidase 活性化變化와 肝膠原質含量과의 關係

We evaluated serum N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase and PZ-peptidase activities as possible markers reflecting fibrotic activity in fibrotic rat liver induced by common bile duct double ligation and excision and we also studied the correlation of liver collagen content and both enzymes activity. Serum NAG activity gradually increased as post-operation days increased, but activity at 28 days after operation showed abruptly increased level, 38.33 nmole/min/ml which was significantly higher than that of control, 21.95 nmole/min/ml (p<0.001). Liver collagen content changes during fibrogenesis also showed a pattern similar to that of serum NAG activity changes. Therefore we tested correlation coefficiency between serum NAG activities and liver collagen contents, and found that they were highly correlated with correlation coefficient value, r=0.90 (p<0.001). On the other hand, we concluded that serum PZ-peptidase activity would not be suitable for a marker because of its great individual variations and its lack of constant trend among groups. Conclusively, we confirmed that measurement of serum NAG activity be very useful for the early diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and monitoring its fibrotic activity.

Gluteus maximus myocutaneous island flap has several distinct advantage for the treatment of the sacral sore. It has wider rotational arc than the turn-over or rotation flap and can avoid suture line on the mid-line and save muscle function. And the round block purse string suture may reduce the defect size. Then we have been combined the two procedures for treatment of the sacral sore. This method permit a primary donor site closure and stable flap coverage without specific complication in the case of relatively large sized sacral sore.
Association Between Parkinsonism and Participation in Agriculture in Korea

Background and Purpose: Environmental factors might influence the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD) or multiple-system atrophy (MSA), and previous examinations of pesticide exposure, well-water drinking, and farming have produced inconclusive results. Because agriculture has been of considerable importance to Korean society, and hence the risk of exposure to pesticides was high in Korea, this study investigated whether such exposure is associated with elevated risks of developing PD and MSA. Methods: Two hundred and thirty-five PD patients, 133 MSA patients, and 77 normal control subjects were examined. Data concerning environmental factors were collected by face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire. Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated by binary logistic regression. Results: ORs for environmental risk factors for developing PD were 1.06 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.02- 1.10] for age and 2.37 (95% CI = 1.32-4.27) for rural well-water drinking for >10 years. Smoking >10 pack-years (OR = 0.31; 95% CI = 0.11-0.64) was a preventable factor for developing PD in this study. However, no significant risk factors were identified for MSA. Conclusions: These results suggest that exposure to certain environmental risk factors plays a role in the development of PD. However, the development of MSA appears to be independent of environmental risk factors in Korean patients.

A comparative study was undertaken to evaluate the contact Neo-dymium : yttrium aluminum garnet(Nd:YAG) laser system for vascular anastomosis of small caliber blood vessels(diameter 0.5-1.2 mm) in the animal model. In this study 40 femoral arteries and 40 femoral veins of Sprague-Dawley rats were anastomosed by contact laser assisted microvascular anastomosis(LAMA) utilizing 3 stay sutures which were placed 120 degrees apart and the intervals welded with contact Nd:YAG laser unit, conventionally sutured anastomosis(CSA) served as controls. The time needed for vascular anastomosis, patency rate(immediate postoperative, postoperative 2nd day, postoperative 1 week, postoperative 4 weeks), gross and microscopic evaluations were compared to conventional microsurgical suture technique. The results are as follows: 1. Postoperative patency rate was 82.5% for femoral artery and 75% for femoral vein by contact LAMA technique compared to 90% and 75% by CSA technique at postoperative 4 weeks. 2. Less time-consumed for arterial anastomosis by 6 minutes 23 seconds and venous anastomosis by 8 minutes 55 seconds with contact LAMA technique compared to CSA technique. 3. Grossly almost complete healing had taken place by postoperative 1 week by contact LAMA technique. 4. Aneurysm formation was 5% for femoral artery and 15% for femoral vein by contact LAMA technique compared to 5% and 10% respectively by CSA technique. 5. Microscopically, re-endothelization was complete by postoperative 7th day by contact LAMA technique. There was less medial hypertrophy and hyperplasia and also less inflammatory response compared to CSA.

Background and PurposeaaThe LRRK2 (PARK8; OMIM607060) substitution was recently identified as a causative mutation for Parkinson’s disease (PD). The pathologic heterogeneity of LRRK2-positive patients suggests that mutation of the LRRK2 gene is associated with the pathogenesis of PD and Parkinson-plus disorders, such as multiple system atrophy (MSA). We previously reported that the G2019S LRRK2 mutation-which is the most common LRRK2 mutation- was not found in a sample of 453 Korean PD patients. In the present study, we extended the screening for the G2019S mutation to a larger group of PD and MSA patients. MethodsaaWe performed a genetic analysis of the G2019S mutation in 877 patients with PD and 199 patients with MSA using a standard PCR and restriction digestion method. ResultsaaNone of the subjects carried the G2019S mutation. ConclusionsaaThe results of the present study support that the G2019S mutation is extremely rare in PD and is unlikely to be associated with MSA in the Korean population.
Extending representations of $H$ to $G$ with discrete $G/H$

The article deals with the problem of extending representations of a closed normal subgroup $H$ to a topological group $G$. We show that the standard technique using group cohomology to solve the problem in the case of finite groups can be generalized in the category of topological groups if $G/H$ is discrete.
