본 논문은 효 개념의 생태윤리적 측면과 보편가치로서의 가능성을 검토하였다. 유네스코 철학윤리국에서는 21세기 보편윤리의 과제로 다른 문화 사이에 공통으로 존재하는 보편가치의 가능성, 지구촌 공유문제 해결에 도움이 되는 보편가치의 발견, 그리고 미래사회의 보편가치 조성이라는 세 가지 문제를 제기한 바 있으며, 기후변화 윤리원칙 선언에는 1. 위해의 방지, 2. 사전예방적 접근, 3. 형평성과 정의, 4. 지속가능한 발전, 5. 의사결정에서의 과학지식과 진실성, 6. 과학기술과 혁신을 담고 있다. 이 문제는 지구환경 내의 지속가능발전을 모색하는 데 필수적인 검토사항이다. 유가윤리는 방법적 차별애에 기초한 확장성을 그 특징으로 하고 있는 바, 보편윤리로의 가능성에 그 방법적 한계가 노정된다. 특히 유가윤리의 특징으로 인사상의 구체적 덕목으로서의 효 개념을 꼽는다면, 인 사상의 기저로서 효 개념에 대한 본원적 접근은 유가윤리의 보편적가치를 확인하는 중요한 열쇠가 될 수 있다. 또한 최근 부각된 개체 중심적 사고방식의 일반화는 인간의 삶에 현세적 행복 추구를 부각시켰다. 이러한 양상은 현세적 삶의 부담을 자식 세대로 연장시키지 않으려는 사고로 현실화된다. 이 현상은 부모세대와 자식세대를 효라는 덕목으로 결합시켰던 전통적 윤리의식의 전제를 흔들리게 함과 동시에 효 개념의 실용적 접근방식의 한계를 의미한다. 이에 역사적으로 전개된 효 개념의 현실적 활용 사례와 그 변천양상을 검토하고 시대에 따라 그 강조점이 변모하였음을 확인함으로써, 효의 근원적 정의를 비단 동아시아 문화에서 유효했던 한계를 넘어서 세계윤리 차원에서 모색하고자 하였다. 효 개념은 세대간의 긴밀한 상호존중과 협력에서 출발하여 세대간 연결고리와 사회적 적용범위를 확장해 왔으며, 송대에 이르러 형이상학적 개념으로 전개되었다. 여기서 논자가 주목한 것은 종족보전의 차원에서 정의한 효의 개념이다. 특히 최근 부각되고 있는 ‘공유지의 비극’ 논의에서 기존 세대와 미래 세대간의 긴밀한 연결의 끈을 필연적으로 요청하는 추세를 고려해 볼 때, 효 개념의 기원에서 찾은 종족보존의 가치는 보편윤리로서의 조건에 부합된다고 판단된다. This paper aims to reveal the ecological ethical aspect of the concept of filial piety and its potential as a universal value. The UNESCO Declaration of the Ethical Principles of Climate Change includes: 1. Prevention of harm, 2. Proactive approach, 3. Equity and justice, 4. Sustainable development, 5. Scientific knowledge and integrity in decision-making, 6. Science and technology and innovation. In the Philosophical Ethics Bureau, there are three issues of universal ethics in the 21st century: the possibility of universal values that exist in common among different cultures, the discovery of universal values that help to solve the problem of sharing global villages, and the creation of universal values for the future society. I have raised an issue. This issue is an essential review for seeking sustainable development in the global environment. Confucian ethics are characterized by extensibility based on methodological discrimination, and thus their method limits as universal ethics. If the concept of filial piety as a specific virtue of human ideology as a characteristic of the ethics of confucius, the fundamental approach to the concept of filial piety as the basis of philosophical ideology can be an important key to confirm the universal value of philanthropy. In addition, the generalization of the individual-centered way of thinking that has recently emerged has emphasized the pursuit of temporal happiness in human life. This aspect is realized as an idea not to extend the burden of temporal life to the generation of children. This phenomenon shakes the premise of the traditional ethical consciousness that combined parental and child generations with the virtue of filial piety, and at the same time implies the limitations of the practical approach of the concept of filial piety. Thus, by reviewing the historically unfolded practical use cases of the concept of filial piety and its transition patterns, and confirming that its emphasis has changed according to the times, it is intended to seek the fundamental definition of filial piety from the level of global ethics beyond the limits that were valid in East Asian culture. Filial piety concept started with close mutual respect and cooperation between generations, expanded the connection between generations and the scope of social application, and developed into a metaphysical concept in the Song Dynasty. Here, what the writer pays attention to is the concept of filial piety defined in the dimension of ethnic conservation. In particular, considering the trend of inevitably requesting a close connection between the existing and future generations in the recent discussion of 'the tragedy of the commons', the value of ethnic preservation found in the origin of the concept of filial piety meets the condition as a universal ethics.
