This article is intended to examine the interactive relationship, and interdisciplinarity between literature and science. It gives a hermeneutic explanation and analytical interpretation of how Thomas Pynchon's novel Gravity's Rainbow is connected with quantum mechanics and how it is represented, based on "hidden variable theory" in modern science. Thus major character Slothrop and other characters related to him are analyzed for their mysterious, difficult actions in connection with principles and characteristics of quantum mechanics. The hidden variable theory contains field concept, relativity theory, quantum mechanics, and etc. Gravity's Rainbow shows various scientific theories and discourses, and postmodern society's traits and falls to the fiction in the quantum universe. Many characters, images and motifs in this novel are interconnected and they are not separated from the whole, but placed as a individual whole in the world. The parallel between literature and science is provided on the basis of quantum mechanics.

조일제 부산대학교 사범대학 1994 교사교육연구 Vol.28 No.-
Lawrence embodies the inner dark gods of the body in his Mexican works. He finds that primitive men have the religion of the dark god and the idea of manifestation of God through their bodies. The Indian mode of primitive self is formed by the dark side of soul. They enjoy dark joy through their religious activities by doing inner travel towards their deep soul. In 'The plumed serpent' Don Ramon and Don Cipriano, who both represent Lawrence himself and have the primitive dark self of old Indians, are making a religious movement of a Quetzalcoatl church so that the modern western white self will be destroyed to substituted by the dark primitive self. Such a primitive, ancient self of darkness is characterized by the cosmic consciousness of vitality. In this sense Lawrence uses the Indian myth. Ramon and Cipriano, dark heroes. attempt which has mystic rituals. Raman and Cipriano become the living Quetzalcoatl and Hutzilopochtli, and Kate, the white woman, is transformed into a primitive dark self even though she is a bit doubtful of the Indian self. She determines to remain as a living dark god, Malintzi in Mexico.
