N/A There are several reports indicating that ICA is important marker of persistent islet cell damage. It has been suggested that the presence of ICA in patient with NIDDM implies a high risk of future insulin dependency. Islet cell antibody (ICA) was determined by the indirect immuno fluorescence technique in 9 insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), 12 atypical diabetes, 49 under-weight non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), 106 non-obese NIDDM, 45 obese NIDDM and 67 non-diabetic controls. We obtained the results as follows; 1) The prevalence of ICA was 0% in non-diabetic control and 14.9% in overall diabetes; 44.4% in IDDM, 41.7% in atypical diabetes, 22.4% in underweight NIDDM, 11.3% in non obese NIDDM and 2.2% in obese NIDDM. 2) In IDDM and atypical diabetes, 75% (3/4) and 60% (3/5), respectively, had short duration of diabetes (less than 1 year). However, in NIDDM patients with ICA, 87.5% (21/24) had the duration of disease more than 3 years. 3) In atypical diabetes and underweight NIDDM with ICA, the basal and peak C-peptide levels were significantly lower than in those without ICA. 4) Most of diabetics with ICA needed insulin for control of diabetes. These data indicated that atypical diabetes is similar to IDDM and high prevalence of ICA in underweight may reflect the early stage of IDDM and destruction of beta cell.

Kano model provide an effectual way to comprehend customer requirements tactically. Determination of the importance values of quality attributes is very important to integrate the Kano model. I suggest the TOPSIS method to decide the importance values of quality attributes which use the satisfaction index and dissatifaction index of customer in Kano`s model. I compared the proposed method with ASC(Average Satisfaction Coefficient) and direct importance evaluation and AHP pairwise comparisons and RC(relative closeness) using A case study of TV set. The results of the proposed method is almost equal to ASC and AHP pairwise comparisons and direct importance evaluation and RC. The proposed method is an effective tool to determine the importance values of quality attributes

일반적으로 신경회로망은 다중분광 영상의 카테고리 분류를 위해 많이 사용되나 다중분광 영상의 경우 카테고리간 명암도차가 얼마나지 않아 오차 수렴시간이 많이 걸리고 분류성능이 떨어진다. 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 평활화 과정, 주된 골을 찾는 과정, 그리고 향상 과정으로 구성되는 새로운 영상 향상법을 제안하고, 제안한 방법으로 향상된 다중분광 영상을 신경회로망의 입력으로 하여 카테고리 분류하였다. 제안한 방법을 LANDSAT TM 영상에 적용한 결과 신경회로망의 오차 수렴속도가 빨라졌고, 분류 성능이 향상되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. In general, neural networks are widely used for the category classification. However when low contrast images, such as multispectral images, are used as input of neural networks, neural networks converge very slowly provide bad performance. To overcome this problem, we propose a new image enhancement method which consists of smoothing process, finding the main valley and enhancement process. And the enhanced images by the proposed method are used as input of neural networks for the category classification. When the new category classification method is applied to multispectral LANDSAT TM images, it is verified that neural networks converge very fast and overall category classification performance is improved.

N/A We evaluated the prevalence and risk factors of diabetic retinopaty in 848 diabetic patients who were admitted to Severance Hospital with stereoscopic fundus phntography, and obtained the following results: The overall prevalence of retinopathy was 36.1% (background 88.9%, proliferative 11.1%) in diabetic patients. The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy increased with the duration of diabetes, with a prevalence of 18.6%, from 0-4 years after diagnosis, 38.5% after 5~9 years, 67.7% after 10~14 years, and 74.1% after 15 years. Female gender, older age at examination, higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure, presence of proteinuria, and insulin therapy contributed significantly to increasing the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy.

N/A To investigate the etiopathogenic factors in the development of posttransplant diabetes, we reiviewed 163 kidney transplant patients among whom 16 patients developed diabetes after transplantation. The results were of follows: 1) Patients who developed posttransplant diabetes were 16 cases (9.8%). 2) Patients whose fasting blood sugar levels were more than 121mg% and less than 140mg% before transplantation were 35 cases (21.4%) and the prevalence of posttransplant diabetes (22.8%) in this group was higher than that (6.2%) in patients whose fasting blood sugar levels were less than 121mg% before transplantation. 3) Posttransplant diabetic patients, usually under-weight and in a nutritionally deprived state, developed diabetes in a relatively short period after transplantation with high blood sugar levels while some patients devleoped diabetes more than 1 year after transplantation with marked weight gain. 4) The mean age of patients at transplantation and the phenotype frequency of HLA-B15 antigen were higher in patients who developed posttransplant diabetes than in patients who did not, but there was no difference in the number of rejection episodes and kinds of immunsuppressants. It might be suggested that the preperative state of glucose tolerance associated with the nutritional state of patients receiving kidney transplantation could have a permissive role when various factors interact in the development of posttransplant diabetes.

N/A The population is aging, primarily because of a decline in the birth rate and an increase in longevity. With advancing age, the prevalence of diabetes and abnormal glucose tolerance increase, We compared clinical characteristics of 76 patients of eldery diabetes with those of 288 patients of adult diabetes who all had been admitted to Severance hospital Yonsei University, College of Medicine from Jan. 1984 to Feb. 1986, The results obtained were as followings. 1) The mean age of eldery and adult diabetes was 69.6, 53.7 years old respectively, The distribution of eldery and adult diabetes were 63.2, 64.9% in nonobese-IDDM, and 25.0, 20.2% in obese-NIDDM, and 11.8, 14.9% in atypical group respectively. 2) The creatinine level was significantly higher and creatinine clearance significantly lower in eldery group than that of adult group (p<0.05), 3) The prevalence of retinopathy was higher in eldery group than that of adult group (p<0.05). 4) Hypertension, CVA, and cataract were more frequently associated in eldery group (p<0.05).
