        Literary Criticism in the Postdigital Age: Spatial Narratives and Digital Storytelling

        This essay discusses the need to update narrative theories and literary criticism for emerging digital media like VR and AI. It emphasizes understanding space as a key element in storytelling within virtual environments. Traditional literary criticism has often prioritized time over space. However, recent developments acknowledge the significance of space, prompting a shift towards more nuanced explorations of spatial elements in stories. I suggest methods for analyzing what I call “spatial storytelling” and call for collaboration among scholars to modernize narrative theories. Drawing from my teaching of the “Narrative and Digital Media” course in 2022 and 2023, I propose prototypes of teaching tools for navigating stories in virtual spaces. Six general formulas for analyzing spatial elements in both predigital and digital texts are presented as follows: (1) Actions, (2) Interactions, (3) Social Behaviors and Codes, (4) Familiar/Unfamiliar/ Defamiliarized, (5) Symbolic, and (6) Affective. These formulas conceptualize how narratives often manifest spatially through human experiences and responses to their surroundings, highlighting the interconnectedness of space, stories, and personal experiences. The proposed formulas also encourage students to read deeper into narrative spaces through metaphors, symbols, and affect. Our culture, marked by growing fatigue with digital media, challenges structures of reflection and critique. Amidst this, there is a call and opportunity for humanities education to reassert its relevance, fostering critical and empathetic engagement with others’ stories. This essay offers one model and tries to imagine ways of making our literary criticism and education more relevant to new media environments and aesthetic experiences in the postdigital era.

        Paranoia and Schizophrenia in Thomas Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49

        This thesis attempts to read from Thomas Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49 a range of social investments in the capitalist system through the window of Deleuze and Guattari’s Anti-Oedipus, which have the two results of paranoia and schizophrenia. Many critics have pointed out the importance of paranoia as one of the novel’s central issues. Some emphasize the transcendental experiences in the pursuit of Oedipa’s paranoid quest of meaning and order in the world. Other critics, in contrast, focus on the failure of Oedipa’s paranoid vision of the sacred world. Both positive and negative evaluations of paranoia are restrictive because they unconsciously presume that representing the world without unity or belief is a pessimistic view of the present. However, the text alludes to the possibility that the unprecedented condition of the fragmented present is not a negative picture of the world, but rather a vantage point for liberation from social oppression. This thesis first reveals that Oedipa preserves the epistemic framework of intellectual and religious paranoia. This thesis next examines that against the oppressive power of the paranoid investments, the text seeks the methods of deviation and anti-entropic possibilities from unregulated spaces. In these ways, Pynchon’s novel becomes a revolutionary text or a schizo-text which bears the potential for imploding the capitalist oppressions of paranoia.

        공연예술 관람빈도가 개인의 주관적 안녕감에 미치는 영향연구

        This study examined the effect of art participation on individual’s subjective well-being. A total of 322 significant sample surveys were collected at the cultural-district area of Seoul, during November, 2011. The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in subjective well-being by frequence of Arts Participation with methods of one-way Anova and second, the hierarchial regression analysis was used to find out the moderating effect of the subjective well-being to the frequency of arts participation and demographic variables. The results of this study were as followed. First, the frequency of arts participation had significant differences with the Satisfaction with Life Scale(r=.41, p<.01) and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale(r=.35, p<.01). In order to verify the second hypothesis of the moderating effect, the interaction effect of the frequency of arts participation and age, gender, and the formal education level were found to be not statistically significant. Thus, this study implies that the frequency of arts participation can be an valued variable. 본 연구는 문화예술 참여활동이 개인의 주관적 안녕감에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 하였다. 문화예술 활동에 대하여 참여활동의 정도, 즉 관람빈도가 개인의 안녕감에 미치는 영향을 검증하는 것에 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 서울의 문화자원 밀집지역을 대상으로 2011년 11월 한 달 간 일반인 380명에게 설문자료를 배포하여 이 중에서 322부를 사용하였다. 연구문제로는 공연예술 관람빈도와 개인의 주관적 안녕감이 갖는 관계를 분석하고 이어서 인구통계학적 변인이 관람빈도와 주관적 안녕감의 관계를 조절하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 관람빈도는 주관적 안녕감을 구성하는 요소인 삶의 만족도(r=.41, p<.01)와 정적정서 및 부적정서 (r=.35, p<.01)에서 모두 유의미한 상관과 차이를 나타냈다. 첫 번째 가설검증에서는 관람빈도가 4∼7회, 8회 이상인 집단에서 삶의 만족도와 정적 정서가 가장 높게 측정되었고 그 뒤로 2∼3회>0∼1회의 순으로 차이가 나타났다. 또한, 부적정서에서는 0∼1회 관람집단이 4∼7회를 관람한 집단보다 높은 것으로 나타나 관람빈도와 주관적 안녕감 간의 유의미한 차이가 지지되었다. 두 번째 가설검증인 관람빈도에 대한 주관적 안녕감의 조절효과 검증을 위하여 성별, 연령, 교육수준 요인을 조절변인으로 투입하여 위계적 회귀분석을 실시한 결과 관람빈도의 주 효과는 검증되었으나 투입된 성별, 연령, 교육수준 요인의 상호작용효과는 유의하지 않았다. 이처럼 관람빈도는 그 정도에 따라 개인의 주관적 안녕감에 차이를 가져오는 유용한 변수임을 알 수 있었다. 이 외에도 연구결과를 토대로 본 연구의 의의와 시사점을 함께 제시하였다.

        When an android device user wants to run an application program, he should permit to using application. If the application are used frequently, the permission might be troublesome for user. Also there are some threats that user permit a malicious application which mimics a normal application. We proposed a new permission management application based on user's using pattern of application programs. This application enables a user to manage the right for application without other background knowledge and controls permission for application programs. Proposed permission management application can prevent to run malicious application which obtain a permission by imitating a normal application because the malicious application was not registered in user's using pattern.

      • F.F.Chopin의 〈Piano Sonata op.58〉에 관한 연구

        In music romanticism was characterized by emphasis on subjective emotional qualities and greater freedom of form, and was development in French, Italy, German . There was supressed insurrections and changes of territory during 19th century and poland achived independence and was characterized nationalist. F.Chopin was born in such a background Bach and Mozart were his two favourite masters. His influence on Liszt and Wagner is too obvious to need emphasis and 20th-century tonality and French Music - Frank, Saint - Saens. One of leading the nationalist composers - Grieg, Dvorac. F.Chopin compose 3 piano sonata, 24prelude, etude, 4baldad. The 3 piano sonata represents the quintessence of the romantic piano tradition and embodies more fully than any other composer's expressive and technical characteristics. In this thesis, the present writer has made some research on chopin's piano sonata op.58" composed in 1844. Chopin's music show the unity on motive and lyric melody. His harmonic innovations were revolutionary, used chromatic, modulation. This b minor sonata was moddated realtion key-B Major, D Major, F Major, and indicated the b minor sonata of Liszt. Expecially, the use of 7th chord influenced the modern works.
